This is the story of a girl who spent the summer in baggy dresses and shorts of light fabrics, but while she was doing it she did not know what awaited her next. Now that the cold weather and autumn are approaching in this part of the world, it is time to return to long pants: tight and long jean pants that are not as generous when fitting as those treacherous summer clothes were. It's cold and it's time to put on some warm pants, but whoops, what's up? Did last year's clothes shrink? Are the seams tighter? Could this be possible? She doesn't know it, but that it's a problem it is. She only have two options: renew the wardrobe for larger sizes (actually this is not an option) or take the machine and refurbish all the clothes so that it can fit her again (ok, actually this is the only viable option she have) 😅.
Esta es la historia de una chica que se pasó el verano en holgados vestidos y shorts de telas livianas, pero que mientras lo hacía no sabía lo que le esperaba después. Ahora que en esta parte del mundo se acercan el frío y el otoño es tiempo de volver a los pantalones largos: ajustados y largos pantalones de jean que no son tan generosos al calzar como lo era esa traicionera ropa de verano. Hace frío y es hora de ponerse un pantalón abrigado, pero UPS, ¿qué sucede? ¿Se encongió la ropa del año pasado? ¿Las costuras están más apretadas? ¿Podría ser esto posible? Ella no lo sabe, pero que es un problema lo es. Solo tiene dos opciones: renovar el guardarropas por talles más grandes (en realidad esto no es opción) o agarrar la máquina y refaccionar toda la ropa para que le vuelva a entrar (ok, en realidad esta es la única y viable opción que tiene) 😅.
Well, welcome to a new Monday of Needle Work, friends 😃. Happy to have a new contest in our beloved NeedleWorkMonday community. I love contests and seeing all the projects they do, it's so cute. I want to start by clarifying that my previous text is an exaggeration of the real facts but it has a little truth and thanks to that I was able to do my project for the NeedleWork Your Jeans Contest!. It is true that my size has probably increased a bit lately, something I suspected but confirmed the other day when I tried to put on THIS JEAN PANTS 😂.
Bien, bienvenidos a un nuevo lunes de trabajos de agujas, amigos 😃. Feliz por tener un nuevo concurso en nuestra querida comunidad NeedleWorkMonday. Me encantan los concursos y ver todos los proyectos que hacen, es tan lindo. Quiero empezar aclarando que mi texto anterior es una exageración de los hechos reales peeero que un poco de verdad tiene y gracias a eso pude hacer mi proyecto para el Concurso NeedleWork Your Jeans!. Es cierto que probaaaablemente mi talle haya aumentado un poco en este último tiempo, algo que sospechaba pero que terminé de confirmar el otro día cuando intenté ponerme ESTE PANTALÓN DE JEAN 😂.
I had bought these pants at the fair last spring. It was already hot enough to wear long pants but at the time it was my size and it only cost me $1 so I said why not? I remember that I arrived home proud of my great purchase: the pants are impeccable and they fit me well in length, something that does not usually happen very often since I have quite long legs. But since summer came, I never "released" it, until last weekend when I wanted to use it and noticed that it was quite tight in the crotch area. I'm not going to go into too much detail about this but we women know that tight pants RIGHT THERE are annoying, so I wouldn't wear them like that at all. The waist was a bit tight, but not that tight. In short, this pants said "doesn't fit you anymore" all over it 😂.
Este pantalón lo había comprado en la feria en la última primavera. Ya estaba bastante caluroso como para usar pantalón largo, pero en ese momento era mi talle y solo me costó 1USD así que dije, ¿por qué no? Me acuerdo de que llegué a mi casa orgullosa por mi gran compra: el pantalón está impecable y me quedaba bien de largo, algo que no suele suceder muy seguido ya que tengo las piernas bastante largas. Pero como después llegó el verano nunca lo "estrené", hasta el fin de semana pasado que lo quise usar y noté que me quedaba bastante ajustado en la zona de la entrepierna. No voy a entrar en mucho detalle sobre esto pero nosotras mujeres sabemos que es molesto un pantalón que apriete JUSTO AHÍ, así que de ningún modo lo usaría así. De cintura me quedaba algo apretado, pero no tanto. En resumen, este pantalón decía "ya no te queda" por todos lados 😂.
Of course, I wasn't going to give in so easily to the consequences of overeating on vacation, so I decided to look around so as not to waste this garment. I really like these pants because of the print they have so I didn't want to get rid of them. In that, I remembered a project I had done a few years ago when I still didn't have a machine and I was obsessed with mending clothes. It is a jean skirt made from pants ❤️.
Por supuesto no me iba a rendir tan fácil ante las consecuencias de comer exageradamente en las vacaciones así que decidí buscar la vuelta para no desperdiciar esta prenda. Este pantalón me gusta mucho por la estampa que tiene así que no quería deshacerme de él. En eso, recordé un proyecto que había hecho hace unos años cuando aún no tenía máquina y estaba obsesionada con arreglar ropa. Se trata de una pollera de jean a partir de un pantalón ❤️.
This project is really simple: you just have to cut the pants to the desired length and then remove the crotch seams, cutting all the seams made industrially by the overlock machine. This will allow us to sew more easily later. The next step is to face the curves we cut out and join them so that they form two new smoother curves. To make it easier you can trim the excess fabric 😃.
Este proyecto es realmente sencillo: solo hay que cortar el pantalón por el largo deseado y luego retirar las costuras de las entrepiernas, cortando toda la costura hecha industrialmente por la máquina overlock. Esto nos va a permitir coser más fácilmente luego. El paso siguiente es enfrentar las curvas que recortamos y unirlas de forma que se formen dos nuevas curvas más suaves. Para hacerlo más fácil se puede recortar el excedente de tela 😃.
When I did this a few years ago it would have taken me over an hour to sew the seams by hand: I had to make sure that the stitch was perfect and closed because since it is a tight skirt, of course the fabric does not have to open. But now that I have the machine, this step literally took me 10 minutes. We turned the garment inside out and it was almost ready. As always, a few busybodies supervising everything 😸.
Cuando hice esto hace unos años habré tardado más de una hora en coser a mano las costuras: me tenía que asegurar que la puntada sea perfecta y cerrada porque como se trata de una pollera ajustada, por supuesto la tela no se tiene que abrir. Pero ahora que tengo la máquina este paso literalmente me tomó 10 minutos. Damos vuelta la prenda y ya estaba casi lista. Como siempre, unos pequeños metiches supervisando todo 😸.
At this point, one option is to fray the cut edge fabric for a casual, "cool" look, but honestly I prefer neat garments so I went to the trouble of ironing the hem and all. I was putting so much love into my new skirt, I wasn't going to screw it up in the end. I even double-stitched it for extra detail ❤️.
En este punto, una opción es desflecar la tela del borde cortado para que quede un aspecto informal y "cool", pero honestamente prefiero las prendas prolijas así que me tomé la molestia de hacer el dobladillo con plancha y todo. Le estaba poniendo mucho amor a mi nueva pollera, no iba a arruinarlo en el final. Incluso hice una costura doble para que tenga un detalle adicional ❤️.
And so my friends, this is how this skirt turned out on me. Now, since I no longer have the annoying seam in the crotch I can wear the skirt more up to my navel so it is no longer tight anywhere. And I don't want to think I'm cool but I will and I will mention that the seams on the front and back were unnoticeable. There were hardly any traces left that this was previously a pair of pants ❤️.
Y así amigos, es como me quedó esta pollera. Ahora, como ya no tengo la molesta costura en la entrepierna puedo usar la pollera más hasta el ombligo así que ya no me queda ajustada en ningún lado. Y no me quiero creer genial pero lo haré y mencionaré que las costuras del frente y de la parte de atrás quedaron imperceptibles. Casi ni quedaron rastros de que esto antes era un pantalón ❤️.
And finally, that's how I look in it ❤️😂. Now autumn begins for us, so I took advantage of the fact that there was some sun in the afternoon and I took these photos in the corner of my house. But don't let this skirt be sad that it originated right at the end of summer: I also plan to include it in my fall outfits wearing black nylons and boots 😅.
Y por último, así es como me queda ❤️😂. Ahora empieza el otoño para nosotros, así que aproveché que en la tarde había algo de sol y me tomé estas fotos en la esquina de mi casa. Pero que esta pollera no se entristezca por haber sido originada justo en el fin del verano: también planeo incluirla en mis outfilts otoñales usando medias de nylon negras y botas 😅.
