Just yesterday, I decided to check in a bag that I have kept at the other end of my room. This bag contains clothes that I don’t wear for one reason or the other. I have always wanted to check it out, so as to give people those I can give and throw away those I can’t.
In it I saw this cloth that my mom bought for me years back, she thought it would size me and if not I could slim it but unfortunately, I just kept it in the bag. I didn’t like the clothes, that was why I kept them away which led to me forgetting that I had the cloth.
When I saw it, I felt the urge to upcycle it. At first, I was so confused about how to go about it, because it is chiffon-like I would have loved it to be a beachwear if it was longer but I decided to go with something cute and simple. I hope you like it
I was so excited to do this, even though I felt so nervous because I couldn’t think of what to upcycle it into and couldn't bring myself to cut the clothes, I was thinking I might spoil the clothes
This is my first time upcycling and honestly, I can’t say it was easy or it was hard but I am glad it turned up pretty nice because I am not really much of a seamstress or tailor but I can use a sewing machine because I am surrounded by seamstresses, my mum was once a seamstress and my sis is also a seamstress. Although what I mostly do are little amendments.
But, before I spend time boring you with my story and excitement, let me take you along on how I did it.
Again, I’m so excited, hehe
The first thing I had to do was lay down the cloth to cut it since I wanted it to be two pieces. I laid it down properly and then cut it carefully.
The skirt
- After cutting, I decided to work on the skirt first, so I added an elastic band, I had to pin it all around because I didn’t want any mistakes.
- Then after sewing around, I left a small hole to fix the elastic band inside before shutting it down completely. I added the elastic and then joined both ends.

- For the down of the skirt, I didn’t want to cut it so I just folded it with the linen and it turned out nice.

The top
- The first thing I did was to cut the flare at the hand, I never liked it.
- I just folded all the part that was cut, so that it will not remove threads. Just like how I fix elastic on the skirt, I did it for the down of the top but this time with a tinier elastic.
And that was it
This was the final look after I was done. I was so happy it turned out not so bad. I think I did pretty well as a first-timer, what do you think?
