One of the things I love doing in spring is collecting a few wildflowers to bring indoors. But I often stop myself because my two mischievous kitties are far too curious. They love plants, and their constant sniffing and poking knocks the vase over, and water goes everywhere!
So, I came up with a quick, easy, and functional solution: a hanging flower vase holder. Not only does it stop the cats from tipping things over, but it also saves space, especially if the bouquets are bushy.
How I Made It
I used some leftover 3mm macramé cord and a 6.5mm crochet hook.
Here's the simple pattern I created.
Start with a magic ring.
Make 6 single crochets (sc) into the ring.
In the next round, do 2 sc in each stitch (12 stitches total).
Gradually increase:
1 sc, then 2 sc in the next stitch.
1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, then 2 sc in the next.
Continue increasing as needed until the base is wide enough for your vase or jar.
Once the base is done, stitch around in each back loop to build up the sides. Keep going until you reach your desired height.
The back loop gives the project that textured pattern and is easier to push the hook into, especially if using thick cord.
When you're happy with the height, chain 8, skip 4 stitches.
Then continue sc all the way around to reinforce the chain, forming a strong hanging loop.
Finish off and tuck in the end neatly.
And that’s it! A quick, satisfying craft that solved my flower dilemma.
This jar fitted nicely!
I hung the vase holder and like how sturdy it is. I like it simple, with no embellishments, so it doesn’t take attention away from the beautiful flowers.
Once it was finished, I nipped out to gather a few wildflowers, knowing I could now enjoy them indoors without any worries.
One flower I especially love this time of year is the English bluebell; they’re blooming everywhere at the moment, their beautiful blue/violet colour covers the woodland ground.
I like the way they naturally lean to one side. I love them indoors to add some woodland charm. They also have a refreshing and calming fragrance.
Seeing them arranged so prettily on the wall, safely out of kitty range, makes me feel good every time I pass by.
I am very happy with the way it turned out!
Have a nice day!
