Hello beautiful people of needlework community, it's such a delight to make an entry and input in this community after such a long time, decades or millennium lol, who knows?
So on this very day, I had a traditional wedding occasion to attend later in the evening. I woke up with an almost empty wardrobe, by that I mean that most of the native/traditional dresses I had in my wardrobe I had either outgrown them just a little bit or they just weren't the right fit for this occasion, so I was bothered about what I was gonna wear or how to appear and I couldn't have possibly missed that occasion for anything in the world, not even an almost empty wardrobe could stop me lol.
Thankfully I had a sewing machine around, and a few piece of materials I didn't use up yet. I woke up that beautiful day telling myself I needed a new outfit for this occasion, nothing too complex or discomforting, just something very simple, comfortable and easy to move around with.
It's been a long while I did cutting and sewing of a full blown dress, the very last time I did this was in 2024, September to be precise lol, so you see that's such a long time. I felt a little skeptical about it but I still had to give it a try anyway. Mind you, I am still a beginner in this, I've only learned cutting and sewing for barely two (2) months last year, I paused my training because of school, I couldn't joggle the two so I had to wait till graduation before making a decision to go back to it.
With a little bit of fear and worry, I pulled out my fabric from my closet, spread it on the floor and took my basic body measurements and marked them out on my fabric like I was taught.
Work Process
I wanted a free bubu gown, so I did the marking just that way. This bubu gown came with joined sleeves and not separate sleeve cutting.
After making all the basic marking on the fabric, I did the cutting out of the marked portions
You can see I made a marking on the pocket and neckline too. I didn't want a round boring neck cutting so I styled it up with that V-shaped cutting, I opened up the fabric after I did the carving out of the strategic points.
These are the facing I cut out for the neck regions to make a neat covering of the edges. I made two of those, for both the front neckline and the back neckline
After I attached and sew the facing to the main dress and making a neat edge, I opened up the dress, spread it again on the floor to make necessary adjustments before the next step of sewing.
And here was the final result of the outfit, sitting pretty on my lovely body. This dress really saved the day for me, I was glad to have finish it right on time for the occasion and rocked my bubu gown so beautifully and gracefully
Here I took a few selfie shots with my friend, she turned up for the wedding too with an English bubu gown as well lol.
Yet another selfie with my friend, I did love my dress and people liked it too, even the bride herself admired my dress and when she realized I made it, she asked me to do the exact style for her too not minding I wasn't an expert or very experienced in the field lol
So this is my entry for #needleworkmonday, I hope you like my dress, I put in a lot to it lol.
Thank you for your time! Have a wonderful Monday and new week.
