📡 Subscription Service
One of the big new and requested features is a subscription service [pillar 1] for our meetup list:
If you decide to use this service you will receive a notification when a meetup is added or important data of a meetup got changed like a rescheduling or a change of the event location.
But of course you don't want to get informed when a meetup on the other side of Europe got announced... and because of that you can pick the countries you want to subscribe to never miss a meetup in your area.
A small but important side note: The bot will only notify you once about a new meetup or a change so you will not get spammed by the service ;) This is achieved by logging the notification including a hash value of multiple "important" meetup values like the local street address or time data of the event. We recurrently are refreshing the list and that's why this side note is important.
🔔 Subscribe - !HESUB
You can subscribe to new meetups and organizational changes based on a list of ISO 2 country codes (use the Column "Alpha 2" of the linked list). Simply comment on any post on HIVE with the following layout to subscribe to one or multiple countries:
!HESUB ISOCODE, ISOCODE2, ...To subscribe to Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein:
!HESUB DE, AT, CH, LI(you can also skip the whitespaces between the countries)
The bot will take around 15 minutes to process and you will receive a reply about the change:
If you want to get a notification for online meetups then you can use online as country code. You can also use !HESUB to subscribe for any change and new meetup! (thx @mary-me for suggesting this functionality :) )
🔕 Unsubscribe - !HEUNSUB
You can always unsubscribe from specific countries with the same layout as above.
To unsubscribe from Luxembourgh and Belgium:
!HEUNSUB DE,LI
The bot will reply with an acknoledgement (it will also take around 15 minutes):
If you do not want to receive any notifications anymore then you can use ALL as country code. The service will remove all of your subscriptions.
❓Important for Both Commands
Make sure to only write the command and nothing else in your comment. Otherwise it is very difficult to know what you want from the bot ;) Just follow the layout above and everything will be fine. If you have any issue with the bot just let us know so we can improve.
❓Questions for You
There was a plan to use European regions like "British Isles", "North East Europe", "Iberia" and more to bundle specific countries into one identifier. The bot contains that code partially but we thought it is way easier to explain and use if we continue with only ISO country codes, right?
Is "online" enough as a criteria or do you want to have an option to only subscribe for Italian speaking online meetups for example? That will take some time to code but it would be possible. Speaking of Online Meetups: Right now we only have German speaking online meetups featured. If you know some other European Discord Talk or anything like this please ping @hiveup-europe in the comments of the announcement post so we can include that event into our list as well.
