A couple of weeks ago I had nothing to do to get myself entertained, or at least nothing caught my attention enough. Then someone asked me: "Do you want to see Final Destination made into an anime?". The description was so funny that obviously I said yes and today I will talk to you about this anime that I thought was short, simple and quite good entertainment. And yes, I will give some spoilers (sorry).
Synopsis
Another, is about a story that begins with death. A high school student dies which of course is a tragic situation, but on the other hand, another student named Sakakibara is transferred from Tokyo to Yomiyama precisely around the time of the tragedy that occurred. Once he arrives at the classroom he notices that his classmates are very friendly but harass him with somewhat strange questions. «Are you sure you haven't been here before?»... It was weird but he let it go.
On the other hand, Sakakibara meets Misaki, a girl in his class with a mysterious aura. She has an eyepatch over her left eye, she is always alone and he usually finds her in unexpected places, but what is even weirder is that everyone in the classroom seems to ignore her. When Sakakibara dares to ask other classmates about what is going on with Misaki, they look at him strangely; «Who are you talking about? There is no Misaki here". She does not exist.
Even though everyone insists that Sakakibara should get over the issue and stop asking, he does not give up. It was impossible for her not to exist. Therefore, Sakakibara has set out to find out what really happens in Class 3-3 of North Yomiyama School.
Gore and thriller
Another is an anime that raises an interesting concept about a generational curse that is not simply about brutal deaths of a group of teenagers (which already says something), but also takes the fiction of the topic to another level when it raises the idea that one of those deceased classmates becomes a living dead without being aware of it. On the other hand, the curse affects the victims in a more profound way since their relatives are also in mortal danger. It gives that bizarre touch to a concept that is overused but that way makes it striking and interesting. Although due to the theme it is classified as a horror anime, it honestly doesn't seem right to me. There are certainly scenes that were animated with the intention of scaring, certainly managing to be somewhat uncanny, but from there to say that this is a horror anime... I don't think so, or at least that aspect doesn't seem completely accomplished to me.
However, the genre in which I would put this story is gore and thriller, which are aspects that are perfectly achieved. The thriller, which is what makes it an entertaining anime, focuses first on the mystery of Misaki. The tension around knowing who or what she really is gets you hooked immediately, is she a ghost or not?... Apart from how they mix this with the deaths of other students, it makes you think that she could be guilty of everything, they convinces you with that with every detail that is gradually revealed in each chapter.
Furthermore, if you add to this Misaki's personality, what it she does is reinforce suspicions, you perfectly get the reason for the doubt surrounding the character's origin.
Then that suspense is complemented by the mystery of discovering the other, that mysterious dead student who has come back to life to disturb the balance of things. Then more intrigue is added when they try to discover the origin of the curse and how to stop it, so in every chapter you are intrigued, you need to know what is happening. Of course it's not like the mystery is super deep, the answers are simple, but considering that this is an anime with only 12 chapters, I think the plot is very well achieved in a short time.
Each chapter gives just enough clues so that everything is not resolved at once, but rather than that, the threads are slowly tied together until the climax of the final revelation is achieved.
In terms of gore, violence and blood, the anime does not disappoint. There is quite a bit of this element, in my opinion with quite hard to watch scenes and topics that of course makes this anime something for only the people who like this type of things. The deaths are constant and strong, the scenes are animated in a way that conveys the brutality of what happens and if you take into account that these teenagers, practically children, are supposed to have seen at least ten people close to them die... It makes everything creepier.
Besides, I love that at the animation level, the characters themselves are drawn in a cute way, they are really adorable. But then when these violent scenes begin the contrast is strong so they have a greater impact.
If you are sensitive, it is better not to watch it.
Another aspect that seemed funny to me is that evidently the trauma caused on a group of people put through to so much violence, so much tragedy and so much stress would be unimaginable. But with everything that has happened, it seems like they keep going with their lives as if nothing had happened. Certainly in the end they forget everything, but during the events they seem to move from one mourning to another as if it were the most normal thing in the world. I know it's fiction and the plot must go on, but just thinking about the psychological implications made me giggle a little. Let's say they are very resilient teenagers😂.
There are only two characters that do present themselves as deeply affected people on a psychological level that I think were well done. They live a relatively normal life but the negative influence of what happened on their personalities is evident.
I can only say that this anime is quite decent, it is a well-made entertainment piece that if you like bloody stories as well as short ones, it will be a perfect option for you. It is not horror but I really don't see the need for it to be so, since the suspense is perfectly achieved even if it is simple. Sometimes less is more.

Hace un par de semanas no tenía nada que ver como entretenimiento, o al menos nada me llamaba suficiente la atención. Entonces alguien me preguntó: «¿Quieres ver Destino Final hecho anime?». La descripción era tan curiosa que evidentemente dije que sí y hoy les hablaré de este anime que me pareció un entretenimiento corto, sencillo y bastante bueno. Y sí, daré uno que otro spoiler (lo siento).
Sinopsis
Another («Otro»), trata de una historia que comienza con la muerte. Fallece un estudiante de secundaria lo cual por supuesto es una situación trágica, pero por otra parte otro estudiante llamado Sakakibara es transferido desde Tokio a Yomiyama justamente por las fechas de la tragedia ocurrida. Al llegar al salón de clases nota que sus compañeros son muy amigables pero lo acosan con preguntas un tanto extrañas. «¿Estás seguro que no has estado aquí antes?»... Era extraño pero lo dejaba pasar.
Por otra parte, Sakakibara conoce a Misaki, una chica de su clase con un aura misteriosa. Tiene un parche en el ojo izquierdo, siempre está sola y por lo general la encuentra en lugares inesperados, pero lo que es aún más extraño es que todos en el aula de clases parecen ignorarla. Cuando Sakakibara se atreve a preguntar por Misaki a otros compañeros ellos lo miran con extrañeza; «¿De quién hablas? No hay ninguna Misaki aquí». Ella no existe.
A pesar de que todos insisten que Sakakibara supere el tema y deje de preguntar, él no se desiste, era imposible que ella no exista. Por lo tanto, Sakakibara se ha propuesto averiguar qué ocurre realmente en la clase 3-3 de la escuela Yomiyama del Norte.
Gore y thriller
Another es un anime que plantea un concepto interesante sobre una maldición generacional que no simplemente se trata de muertes brutales de un grupo de adolescentes (que ya eso es decir bastante), sino que además lleva la ficción del tema a otro nivel cuando plantea la idea de que uno de esos fallecidos se convierte en un muerto viviente sin ser consciente de ello. Por otro lado la maldición afecta a las víctimas de una forma más profunda puesto que sus familiares también están en peligro mortal. Le da ese toque bizarro a un concepto que es trillado pero de esa forma lo hace llamativo e interesante. Aunque por la temática se clasifica como un anime de terror pues a mí sinceramente no me lo parece. Ciertamente hay escenas que fueron animadas con la intención de asustar logrando ser ciertamente algo incómodas, pero de allí a decir que este es anime de terror... No lo creo, o al menos ese aspecto no me parece completamente logrado.
Sin embargo, el género en que yo pondría esta historia es gore y thriller los cuales son aspectos que están perfectamente logrados. El thriller, que es lo que lo hace un anime entretenido se centra primero en el misterio de Misaki. La tensión entorno a saber quién o qué realmente es te hace engancharte inmediatamente, ¿es o no es un fantasma?... Aparte como mezclan esto con las muertes de otros alumnos te hace pensar que ella puede ser la culpable de todo, te convence de ello con cada detalle que poco a poco es revelado en cada capítulo.
Además si a esto le sumas la personalidad de Misaki que lo que hace es afianzar las sospechas, consigues perfectamente la razón de la duda que rodea el origen del personaje.
Después ese suspenso se complementa con el misterio de descubrir el otro, ese misterioso estudiante muerto que ha vuelto a la vida a perturbar el equilibrio de las cosas. Después se agregan más intrigas cuando intentan descubrir el origen de la maldición y cómo detenerla, por lo que en todos los capítulos estás intrigado, necesitas saber qué ocurre. Por supuesto no es como que el misterio sea súper profundo, las respuestas son sencillas, pero considerando que éste es un anime de apenas 12 capítulos creo que la trama está muy bien conseguida en poco tiempo.
Cada capítulo da una dosis de pistas justa como para que no se resuelva todo de una sola vez, sino que se vayan atando los hilos lentamente hasta lograr ese clímax de la revelación final.
En cuanto al gore, a la violencia y la sangre el anime no decepciona. Hay bastante de este elemento, en mi opinión con escenas y temas bastante delicados que por supuesto hace de este anime algo para personas que les guste este tipo de cosas. Las muertes son constantes y fuertes, las escenas están animadas de una manera que transmite la brutalidad de lo que ocurre y si tienes en cuenta que se supone que estos adolescentes, prácticamente unos niños, vieron a al menos unas diez personas cercanas morir... Lo hace todo más creepy.
Aparte me encanta que a nivel de animación los personajes en sí están dibujados de una forma linda, son adorables realmente. Pero entonces cuando comienzan estas escenas violentas el contraste es fuerte por lo que tienen un impacto mayor.
Si eres sensible, mejor no lo veas.
Otro de los aspectos que me pareció curioso, hasta gracioso de hecho, es que evidentemente el trauma que pudieran padecer un grupo de personas sometidos a tanta violencia, tanta tragedia y tanto estrés sería inimaginable. Pero con todo lo ocurrido parece que siguen adelante con sus vidas como si nada hubiera pasado. Ciertamente al final lo olvidan todo, pero durante los sucesos parecen avanzar de un luto a otro como si fuera lo más normal del mundo. Sé que es ficción y la trama debe continuar, pero nada más pensar en las implicaciones a nivel psicológico me hizo reír un poco. Digamos que son unos adolescentes muy resilientes😂.
Solamente hay dos personaje que sí plantean como personas profundamente afectadas a nivel psicológico que me parece que estuvieron bien logrados. Se mantienen con una vida relativamente normal pero la influencia negativa de lo ocurrido en sus personalidades es evidente.
Sólo me queda decir que éste anime es bastante decente, es un entretenimiento bien logrado que si te gustan las historias sangrientas además de cortas, será una perfecta opción para ti. No es terror pero realmente no veo necesario que lo sea, puesto que el suspenso está perfectamente logrado aunque sea simple. A veces menos es más.
