DC Comics released a short documentary where we see the origin, path and importance of the most iconic supervillain in comics... "Joker: Put on A Happy Face".
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the creation of one of the most important villains that have existed in comics as in TV and film, a character that became a challenge for writers, directors, artists and actors where everyone wants to give a touch of originality, but showing a respect to his origins where he was always considered "an agent of chaos", that's why DC Comics released for free for all his followers a documentary of only 35 minutes long where we will see testimonies of all the people who have been involved in giving life in different ways to this character full of madness, narcissism and ego.

Este año se cumplen el 80 aniversario de la creación de uno de los villanos más importantes que han existido en los comics como en la tv y el cine, un personaje que se convirtió en un reto para escritores, directores, dibujantes y actores en donde cada uno quiere darle un toque de originalidad, pero demostrando un respeto a sus orígenes en donde siempre fue considerado "un agente del caos", es por eso que DC Comics estrenó de forma gratuita para todos sus seguidores un documental de tan solo 35 minutos de duración en donde veremos testimonio de todas las personas que han estado involucradas en dar vida de diferentes formas a este personaje lleno de locura, narcisismo y ego.
In this documentary we observe chronologically the life of Joker, from his first appearance in April 1940, just about a year after the first appearance of Batman, until his last performance which served the actor Joaquin Phoenix to win the Academy Award for "Best Actor "; 80 years ago it was created to counter an unbreakable force for justice, someone who was a real threat to the new comic book hero, someone without a past and who just wanted to terrorize everyone without seeming to have a motive, but due to censorship because of the violence presented in these stories, it was necessary to change to a caricatured version more in line with how he was designed and named, a man who does not stop smiling and always wears makeup just like a clown can have by making criminal jokes and always falling into the hands of justice given by his great rival; This was the version I knew when I was a child, one in which I could have fun, but it was always the same in animated series such as Batman in 1966, this was the first time I saw a real action version of this character that was played by Cesar Romero, this actor gave an excellent fun and unbridled performance, but not at all dangerous becoming repetitive and boring, but this was not only perceived by Joker but also by Batman.
En este documental observamos cronológicamente la vida del Joker, desde su primera aparición en abril de 1940, justamente casi un año después de la primera aparición de Batman, hasta su última interpretación la cual le sirvió al actor Joaquin Phoenix ganara el Premio de la Academia al "Mejor Actor"; hace 80 años fue creado para contrarrestar a una fuerza irrompible a favor de la justicia, alguien que fuera una verdadera amenaza para el nuevo héroe de los comics, alguien sin pasado y que solo buscara aterrorizar a todos sin parecer un motivo aparente, pero por censuras a causa de la violencia presentada en estas historias se tuvo que cambiar a una versión caricaturesca más acorde a como fue diseñado y nombrado, un hombre que no deja de sonreír y que lleva siempre maquillaje tal como lo puede tener un payaso haciendo bromas criminales y siempre cayendo en manos de la justicia impartida por su gran rival; esta fue la versión que conocí cuando era niño una en la cual pudiera divertirme, pero era siempre ver lo mismo tanto en series animadas como la serie de Batman de 1966, esta fue la primera vez que veía una versión acción-real de este personaje que fue interpretada por Cesar Romero, este actor dio una excelente interpretación divertida y desenfrenada, pero para nada peligrosa volviéndose repetitiva y aburrida, pero esto no solo lo percibía por el Joker sino también para Batman.
From a soft version without being the enemy which it was since its creation, different writers and artists felt it was necessary to return to the origins, but giving freedom to a madness that more could never be controlled, so there were so many comics that became classics and all of them were references for the second real interpretation of this character, this time in the movies in the hands of Jack Nicholson; This was an interpretation that completely changed my perspective for this character as well as for Batman and Gotham City, this was a city that should be saved by a vigilante dressed as a bat facing crazy criminals that like him were created by a vile and violent society. Nicholson gave us a great performance, he and the director Tim Burton taught many people about the evolution of these characters and it was impossible to see what he had seen in the many animated series and in the series of the 60's. This film put this actor and his performance on a pedestal and it was even impossible to see this character again in the movies.
De una versión suave sin ser el enemigo el cual era desde su creación, diferentes escritores y dibujantes sintieron que era necesario que se volviera a los orígenes, pero dando libertad a una locura que más nunca pudiera ser controlada, así hubo tantos comics que se volvieron clásicos y todos ellos fueron referencias para la segunda interpretación real de este personaje, esta vez en el cine en manos de Jack Nicholson; esta fue una interpretación que cambio completamente mi perspectiva tanto para este personaje como para Batman y Ciudad Gótica, esta si era una ciudad que debería ser salvada por un vigilante vestido de murciélago enfrentando a locos criminales que como él fueron creados por una sociedad vil y violenta. Nicholson nos dio una gran actuación, él junto al director Tim Burton; nos enseñaron a muchas personas de la evolución de estos personajes y era algo imposible poder percibir de vuelta lo que había visto en las muchas series animadas y en la serie de los 60', esta película hizo que se colocara a este actor y su interpretación en un pedestal y que fuera hasta imposible poder ver de vuelta a este personaje en el cine.
Since the great resurgence of Batman and Joker at the end of the 80's, one of the best animated series I have seen has emerged, this was "Batman: The Animated Series" which lasted from 1992 to 1995, with the voice of Mark Hamill we were able to have an excellent version of the clown of crime, crazy and funny enough and always pushing his archrival to the limit, but after that moment we returned to have some animated versions, video games or other comic stories, as I said before it was very difficult to bring this character back to a real version and much less to the movies, but the English director Christopher Nolan; had a different plan which he started to tell us at the end of the film Batman Begins of 2005; A lot of expectation and criticism was created by the decision to choose the actor Heath Ledger to play the maximum villain of the Dark Knight, but all that ended from the moment of that first image where the face of the agent of chaos was seen, I remember that day where I didn't stop seeing that image, the scars and that inexpressive face painted in white and I really thought that it was something that I never wanted to face in my life; This was wonderful, The Dark Knight is one of my favorite movies, it's an excellent way to recreate this confrontation between immovable forces and unfortunately because of everything that happened we couldn't see more of the interaction of these characters as Nolan had thought.
Desde el gran resurgimiento de Batman y Joker a finales de los 80' surgió una de las mejores series animadas que he visto, esta fue "Batman: The Animated Series" que tuvo una duración entre los años 1992 al 1995, con la voz de Mark Hamill pudimos tener una excelente versión del payaso del crimen, lo suficientemente loco y divertido y siempre llevando al límite a su archirival, pero después de ese momento volvimos tener alguna que otra versión animada, juegos de vídeo u otras historias de comics, como dije anteriormente era muy difícil poder traer de vuelta a este personaje a una versión real y mucho menos al cine, pero el director inglés Christopher Nolan; tenía un diferente plan el cual nos comenzó a contar al final del film Batman Begins del 2005; mucha expectativa y critica se creó por la decisión al elegir al actor Heath Ledger para interpretar al máximo villano del Caballero de la Noche, pero todo eso termino desde el momento de esa primera imagen en donde se veía el rostro que del agente del caos, recuerdo ese día en donde no dejaba de ver a esa imagen, las cicatrices y ese rostro inexpresivo pintado de blanco y en realidad pensaba que era algo que nunca en mi vida quería enfrentarme; esto fue maravilloso, The Dark Knight es una de mis películas favoritas, es una excelente forma de recrear este enfrentamiento entre fuerzas inamovibles y lamentablemente por todo lo sucedido no pudimos ver más de la interacción de estos personajes tal y como lo tenía pensado Nolan.

The one who did have a leading role was Margot Robbie who played Harley Quinn, opaque to the Joker of Leto. Many fans feared that if a new version was made for the movies, the same thing would happen again. That is why when the announcement of a film focused on this great character only raised concern among the general public and was attacked by the press, but all was quiet when it came to the work in direction and writing that JOKER had, starring Joaquin Phoenix; who took to another level the way of interpreting this crazy character giving him an origin, humanizing him and turning him into a not very reliable narrator for an audience that was surrendered to this sad story of a man who breaks down at the same time as a city where violence was the only way to make himself noticed.
This documentary made me feel nostalgic for how I have followed this character for a long time, maybe not so much where he was born, in the comics, where I can only say that I have read The Dark Knight Returns (1986) and The Killing Joke (1988), but I think I have seen so many interpretations and versions of this character and everything that the personalities that appear in this short and excellent documentary say have motivated me to make this post where I tell the moment that I saw this crazy criminal for the first time and that for sure I will continue to see him for a long time no matter who plays him or in what era and I can even say that I hope that one day we will see him being played by a woman; 80 years have gone by and it seems that there will be many more because people do not get tired of seeing what a character with a mental disorder can do and with all the freedom to terrorize. That is why, despite its short duration, this documentary has seemed very good to me because it has excellent anecdotes from fans who have been lucky enough to give life to this crazy clown.
Con la actuación de Ledger se hizo lo mismo que con la de Nicholson, se colocó en un pedestal en donde esta vez ya sería improbable que existiera otra gran interpretación de este personaje y esto tomó mucha fuerza después de ver el fiasco en la interpretación que se mostró por parte de Jared Leto, digo que "se mostró" porque como sabemos el director del film Suicide Squad, David Ayer, ha dicho en las redes sociales que en su versión de este film se podrá ver mejor el trabajo de este actor y que podrán sentirse complacidos aunque en esta historia no tenía un papel protagonico. Quien si tuvo protagonismo fue Margot Robbie quien interpretando a Harley Quinn, opaco al Joker de Leto. Muchos aficionados temieron que si se llegara a realizar una nueva versión para el cine volvería a pasar lo mismo es por eso que cuando fue el anuncio de un film enfocado en este gran personaje solo levanto preocupación en el público en general y ataque por parte de la prensa, pero todo fue callado con ver el trabajo en dirección y escritura que tuvo JOKER, protagonizada por Joaquin Phoenix; quien llevo a otro nivel la forma de interpretar a este loco personaje dando un origen, humanizándolo y volviéndolo un narrador nada confiable para una audiencia que estaba rendida a esta triste historia de un hombre que se quiebra a la par de una ciudad en donde la violencia era la única forma de hacerse notar.
Este documental me hizo sentir nostalgia por como he seguido a este personaje durante mucho tiempo, tal vez no tanto en donde fue su origen, en los comics, en donde solo puedo decir que he leído The Dark Knight Returns (1986) y The Killing Joke (1988), pero creo que he visto tantas interpretaciones y versiones de este personaje y todo lo que dicen las personalidades que aparecen en este corto y excelente documental me han motivado a realizar este post en donde cuento el momento de que vi por primera vez a este loco criminal y que de seguro seguiré viendo por mucho tiempo sin importar quien lo interprete o en que época y hasta puedo decir que espero que algún día lo veamos siendo interpretado por una mujer; 80 años han pasado y parece que serán muchos más porque la gente no se cansan de ver lo que puede llegar hacer un personaje con un trastorno mental y con toda la libertad para aterrorizar es por eso que a pesar de su corta duración este documental me ha parecido muy bueno porque tiene excelentes anécdotas de fans que han tenido la suerte de dar vida a ese loco payaso.
