This is a great illustration of what is known as a "Pythagorean Siphon" and which is used in many applications such as urinals and washing machines. It involves the design of a chamber for liquid to build up until the pressure builds up at a specific height after which the liquid gets siphoned off through another opening utilizing just the difference in pressure. This is an ingenious mechanism that has no moving parts besides just the liquid itself!
