I tried cutting away the least amount of metal, so that replacing it would be somewhat simple, unfortunately I found more rust after I cut the first piece out, so I cut some more out, until it was only surface rust.
That one piece took ages to take out as it was held in with a multitude of spot welds. I also don't want it too damaged as I need to use it as a template for the metal that's going to replace it.
I cleaned up everything that I could reach with a wire brush
