Nearly four years, it took this one to ripen...
While I was still living in Bali, my buddy Martin East - a deep house producer & owner of Kapa Records - went away from a couple weeks and let me use his studio during that time. It was the first real experience I had in an actual studio, having made everything on headphones up until that point. The whole vibe of a dedicated music space with proper monitors & the full equipment setup was an introduction to a vibe I'd been craving, that was incredibly satisfying.
During that time, I banged out a few pretty dope ideas, experimenting with some new sounds and getting a taste of what I'd felt to be "my future signature sound" wanting to emerge.
There were a couple good waves of playing around with some classic breakbeat samples, stacked up with fatter drums on top, and layered with some synths. It was an interesting fusion of sonic textures from the past, combined with the more futuristic feel of the synths.
I've been picking at a few of those tracks recently, cleaning & phattening them up. And since I've been sharing alot of works-in-progress here the past month, it's time for a few from this batch.
I'm really not sure what'll come of these. Given they use uncleared samples, any sort of commercial release isn't exactly a viable option. Thanks to the stupidity of a record industry that's been failing to keep up with the times, a license for a track like this would probably cost something like $10,000. If I were to partner up with some major artist and their label had the budget for it someday, maybe then. But for now, this is merely a blockchain exclusive.
Enjoy! 🥂
