Step into our world of discovery and sustainability as we embark on a journey to explore how vegetable waste can help produce biomethane. Our capstone project focuses on testing different amounts of vegetable waste to see which one works best for making biomethane through anaerobic fermentation.🔬
SUCCESSFUL DESIGN HEARING📃🎊
Our adventure kicked off with a nerve-wracking but exciting design hearing. We are all nervous but confident at the same time, as long as we understand our study it’s all gonna be fine. We explained our project and answered questions from the panelists. When they approved our plan, we felt a surge of pride and excitement. It was the first step towards making our idea a reality. We are beyond proud of ourselves because we did it! It’s a success.🤩
Our study is “THE EFFICACY OF VARIED QUANTITIES OF VEGETABLE WASTE
IN ANAEROBIC FERMENTATION FOR ENHANCED BIOMETHANE YIELDS” to simply explain it we are going to produced a biomethane from a vegetable waste.🥬
Once our study was approved, we wasted no time. We set up our project at Luis's house and gathered all the materials we needed. Building the anaerobic tanks was our first task. It took careful planning and teamwork, but we got it done. We used sturdy containers and made sure they were sealed tight to create the perfect environment for fermentation.
MATERIALS:
In this study, we researchers used the following materials 2kg of vegetables waste, 4kg of vegetables waste and 6kg of vegetables waste, 3 plastic drum (60L), 3 3-foot PVC pipe 1” diameter, ¼” gas valve, Teflon tape, digital thermometer, stopwatch, table scale, gas stove, motorcycle tube (size 7) and insulated flexible gas hose.
WORKING TOGETHER🛠️💕
The heart of our project lies in the fermentation process. We want to see how different amounts of vegetable waste affect the production of biomethane. So, we decided to test three amounts: 2kg, 4kg, and 6kg. It meant more work, but we were up for the challenge. We are all working together to finish making our anaerobic tank quickly, it will take a lot of time but as long as we work all together the process will be more easy. The fermentation will take 1 week, so we work so hard to finish it as soon as possible.☺️
📍🥬GATHERING VEGETABLE WASTE AT CITY OF NAGA PUBLIC MARKET BAGSAKAN
Gathering the vegetable waste was a big task. We got permission from the Bagsakan president, who happens to be @keith-allen15 father, and went to the City of Naga Public Market Bagsakan to gather the waste. It smelled bad and was heavy, but we knew it was worth it for our project. We sorted through the waste, making sure to only take what we needed. We struggle because of the smell and the weight, but still we know that it’s part of our journey and challenges.
Back at Luis's house, we immediately started weighing and putting the waste into the tanks. Each tank got its share of waste, along with some water to start the fermentation process. We carefully measured everything to make sure our experiment was accurate and right.
Then, we sealed the tanks tight to keep air out, which helps with the fermentation. As we sealed the tanks, we felt excited about what we were doing. Days of planning and hard work had led to this moment. We took a moment to appreciate how far we had come. It was amazing to see our project finally taking shape.
TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK💗
Our journey is still ongoing, but we're proud of what we've accomplished so far. From coming up with the idea to actually building and testing our project, we've learned a lot. And we're excited to see what the results of our fermentation process will be.
As we wait for our tanks to finish making gas, we're getting more excited. Every day brings us closer to seeing if the veggie trash can make energy. But besides that, we've learned a lot about working together and not giving up. So, let's remember to enjoy the journey, even the tough parts.
