I was remembering how my mom decorated a piñata. I don't remember whose birthday it was because in my house they rarely came to celebrate birthdays or maybe some craft for school, but I remember seeing the curly paper covering the spaces of a hollow cardboard figure. It made me a little nostalgic to remember something from that time and with such little precision. But I took advantage of that moment to get some inspiration and create a beautiful and colorful butterfly with the curly paper technique. Here I share with you this simple decoration technique that can be applied to anything and with few materials:

Estuve recordando como mi mamá decoraba una piñata. No recuerdo de quién era el cumpleaños porque en mi casa contadas veces llegaban a celebrar los cumpleaños o tal vez alguna manualidad para el colegio, pero recuerdo ver el papel rizado cubriendo los espacios de una figura de cartón hueca. Me dió algo de nostalgia recordar algo de aquella época y con tan poca precisión. Pero aproveché ese momento para tomar un poco de inspiración y crear una bonita y colorida mariposa con la técnica de papel rizado. Por aquí les comparto este sencilla técnica de decoracion que podemos aplicar a cualquier cosa y con pocos materiales:

Once we organized our materials and tools, we're ready to get started and the first thing we'll do is place the glitter toned eyeshadow on the cardboard. I didn't want to make the job too heavy and keep some of the rustic feel of the cardboard so I just placed this glitter which brings out the veins of the corrugated cardboard.

Una vez que organizamos nuestros materiales y herramientas, estamos listos para comenzar y lo primero que haremos es colocar la sombra de ojos con tonos brillosos sobre el cartón. No quería hacer el trabajo demasiado pesado y conservar algo de lo rústico del cartón así que solo coloqué este brillo que hace destacar las vetas del cartón corrugado.

Now we will make the base of our butterfly by folding the white paper in half and with a pencil we make a wing of the butterfly and half of the body. We cut it out and when we open it we have the two wings and the whole body. We fix it to the cardboard with the glue stick.

Ahora haremos la base de nuestra mariposa doblando el papel blanco a la mitad y con un lápiz hacemos una ala de la mariposa y la mitad de cuerpo. Recortamos y al abrir tenemos las dos alas y el cuerpo completo. Lo fijamos al cartón con el pegamento en barra.

With the ruler we draw lines of about 1/2 centimeter and each leaf of paper and then cut strips from each sheet of paper that we then cut into quarters to make the curly paper.

Con la regla trazamos líneas de aproximadamente 1/2 centímetro y cada hoja de papel y luego recortamos tiras de cada hoja de papel que luego cortamos en cuartos para hacer el papel rizado.

To assemble the wings of the butterfly we first place two rows of paper, but these two rows are made up of drops of paper that we assemble by joining the two ends of a quarter of paper. This will help keep the volume of the curly paper. After gluing the first rows we continue with the small pieces of curly paper and to do so we take the tip of the scissors and slide it making a little pressure on the wing so that the wave is formed at one end. Glue the strips of paper following the pattern of colors that we like until a little more than half of the wing. Cut two pieces of paper in triangle shapes and glue them together to complete the upper wings. I used the color green.

Para armar las alas de la mariposa primero colocamos día hileras se papel, pero estas dos hileras están formadas se gotas de papel que arme uniendo los dos extremos de un cuarto de papel. Esto ayudará a mantener el volumen del papel rizado. Luego se pegar las primeras hileras continuamos con los trocitos se papel rizado y para hacerlo tomamos la punta de la tijera y la deslizamos haciendo un poco de presión al alar para que se forme la onda en un extremo. Pegamos las tiras.de papel siguiendo el patrón de colores que más nos guste hasta un poco más de la mitad del ala. Cortamos dos trozos de papel en formas de triángulo y los pegamos hasta completar las alas superior. Utilicé para ello el color verde.

For the lower wings I lifted the white paper wings a little and used them as a pattern to make the fuchsia wings that I left superimposed on the white ones. I cut out the body of the butterfly in black cardboard and also made small curly antennae. To give a more colorful and moving touch I placed several yellow dots on the green part of the wings and then applied white and fuchsia paint on the lower wings.

Para las alas inferiores levanté un poco las alas de papel blanco y las use como patrón para hacer las alas fucsias que deje superpuestas sobre las blancas. Recorté el cuerpo de la mariposa en cartulina negra y también hice pequeñas antenas rizadas. Para dar un toque más colorido y con movimiento coloque varios puntos amarillos sobre la parte verde de las alas y luego apliqué pintura blanca y fucsia sobre las alas inferiores.

This technique with curly paper is applicable to almost any design that comes to mind and what I like most is that it can be combined with other techniques such as filigree and pointillism. That's all. Bye bye.
