My son is being taught the time at school, the books he uses for school activities include some exercises for learning, but the truth is that the amount of exercises are not enough for children to practice what is necessary until they can learn the time correctly. There are a lot of exercises they have to do until they master the subject, and I was literally already a bit exhausted from making circles with the time for my son to practice. Then we took an old watch and from moving the hands so much we ended up damaging the pinion, so it didn't work either. Then I decided to make him a wristwatch that he could use to practice with hands that he could move easily. I got some materials at home that I used to make the watch and I really didn't have to spend anything and I found the perfect solution for our little ones to learn the time and practice everything they need:

A mí hijo le están enseñando la hora en la escuela, los libros que utiliza para realizar las actividades escolares incluyen algunos ejercicios para el aprendizaje, pero la verdad es que la cantidad de ejercicios no son suficientes para que los niños puedan practicar lo necesario hasta que puedan aprender correctamente la hora. Son muchos los ejercicios que tienen que realizar hasta que dominen el tema, y yo literalmente ya estaba un algo agotada de hacer círculos con la hora para que mi hijo practicara. Luego tomamos un viejo reloj y de tanto mover las agujas terminamos dañando el piñón así que tampoco nos funcionó. Entonces me decidí a realizarle un reloj de pulsera que le sirviera para practicar con agujas que pudiera mover fácilmente. Conseguí algunos materiales en casa que me sirvieron para hacer el reloj y de verdad que no tuve que gastar nada y encontré la solución perfecta para que nuestros pequeños aprendan la hora y practiquen todo lo que necesiten:

The first thing to do is to select the size of the wristwatch we are going to make. For a child of 7 years it fits very well one of 5 centimeters of diameter. With the help of a lid of approximately 5 centimeters, we make a circle on the cardboard and fold it in half to make two circles. Then we take one of the circles and use it as a pattern to make two circles with the red cardboard. We will have as a result two circles of red foami and two circles of black cardboard. We glue them together to form the clock case. We do this to have some volume in the box.

Lo primero que haremos es seleccionar el tamaño del reloj de pulsera que vamos a realizar. Para un niño de 7 años queda muy bien ajustado uno de 5 centímetros de diámetro. Con la ayuda de una tapa de aproximadamente 5 centímetros realizamos un círculo sobre la cartulina y doblamos a la mitad para hacer dos círculos. Luego tomamos uno de los círculos y lo usamos como patrón para hacer dos círculos con la cartulina roja. Tendremos como resultado dos círculos de foami rojo y dos círculos de cartulina negra. Los intecalamos y pegamos para formar la caja del reloj. Esto lo hacemos para tener un poco de volumen en la caja.

Now we cut a long strip of gold foami. I had to make two because the piece of foami I had was small so I had to join the two strips to cover the entire edge of the watch case by gluing it with instant glue, this way we have a clean and neat edge.

Ahora cortamos una tira larga de foami dorado. Yo tuve que realizar dos porque el trozo de foami que disponía era pequeño así que tuve que unir las dos tiras para cubrir todo el borde de la caja del reloj pegándolo con pegamento instantáneo, de esta manera tenemos un borde limpio y prolijo.

With the golden foami we made two hands, the hour hand a little smaller and the minute hand which is longer. With the edge of the sorbet we mark the needles to specify where we will make the holes. And with the scissors we make the small holes. We fix the piece of sorbet of almost 1 centimeter to the case of the clock and we make the numbers with a pen or black marker with fine tip. We place the hands by inserting the straw into the hole and to prevent them from coming out we place a small foami disk on the top of the straw.

Con el foami dorado realizamos dos agujas, la de la hora un poco más pequeña y el minutero que es más larga. Con el borde del sorbete marcamos las agujas para precisar dónde realizaremos los agujeros. Y con la tijera hacemos los pequeños agujeros. Fijamos el trozo de sorbete de casi 1 centímetro a la caja del reloj y hacemos los números con un lapicero o marcador negro de punta fina. Colocamos las agujas introduciendo el sorbete en el agujero y para evitar que se salgan colocamos un pequeño disco de foami en el tope del sorbete.

We glue the piece of thick braid on the back of the watch case and measure a circumference the size of the case and fix it with hot silicone. Then we seal the edges of the braid with a lighter and glue the pieces of Velcro taking into account that one piece goes on the braid and the other on the reverse side. With a strip of gold foami we roll it on itself and seal it to have the small pinion that we fix with instant glue right next to the number 3.

Pegamos el trozo de trenza gruesa en el reverso de la caja del reloj y medimos una circunferencia del tamaño de la caja y la fijamos con silicón caliente. Luego sellamos los bordes de la trenza con un encendedor y pegamos los trozos de Velcro tomando en cuenta que un trozo va sobre la trenza y el otro en la parte inversa. Con una tira de foami dorado enrollamos sobre si misma y la sellamos para tener el pequeño piñón que fijamos con pegamento instantáneo justo al lado del número 3.

Now we have this fun clock with hands ready for our children to practice until they can tell the time without making a mistake. For me this was a great solution to the problem we had when practicing telling time. My son Carlos is very happy with his hands watch and to notice the progress in his learning process.
