It's a long weekend in my country so we have the chance to check what needs to be done in the house and what other purposeful DIY projects that hubby and I could enjoy doing. Aside from praying, attending processions, and church mass(a practice that is part of our religion this holy week), my husband and I also spend our spare time at home making Bamboo Blinds for our semi-outdoor dirty kitchen.
Our dirty kitchen which is at the back part of our house is half open or half-walled. We have to stop the construction of this part of our house due to our limited resources. So temporarily, we covered the left part of the house with a blue tarpaulin as a curtain. This side of the kitchen is more exposed to winds, heat, and rain. While the other side of the kitchen we let it as open as it is for a relaxing and very countryside feels. Hehe.
Now because of the climate, the tarpaulin is getting damaged and worn down each day leaving only half of it hanging. We didn't buy a new one yet because we are thinking of a durable and sturdy replacement for the tarp so we could save some pennies. Thanks for the holiday, hubby and I was able to discuss about it and come up with a solution. A DIY Bamboo Blinds!
So I'm sharing with you today, our SIMPLE DIY on how we make our BAMBOO BLINDS in a very easy way and cost-free!
Here are the materials that we prepared:
- bamboo
- ties or wires (we use rattan plastic wires)
- saw or Bolo Knife
And here's how we do it! The steps.
1.Gather and clean the Bamboo Poles.
Thankfully we have some bamboo poles readily available. (These are the extra bamboo from our Giant Christmas Tree last December), then cut the bamboo poles to the length that you want.
2.Divide or split the Bamboo poles into the size and width of the bamboo strips that you desired. In our case, we cut 2-3 cm wide bamboo strips depending on the bamboo poles. Cut the bamboo lengthwise.
3.Clean the bamboo strips.
After cutting, it's time to clean each strip of the bamboo so everything is ready for the weaving part.
4.Lay the bamboo on the ground for easy weaving.
Fold the wire in half (make sure it's folded at the same length and make sure that the wire is 3x longer than the height of your blinds).
5.Time to weave.
To start, place the first bamboo in the folded wire (this means, one of the half wire is on the ground, while the other half is on top of the bamboo), next add another piece of bamboo, but before you add one make sure to intertwine the wire (or cross it), so the one on the ground will now be on top, the top wire will now be on the ground.
Repeat this pattern inversely in every piece of bamboo that you will add until you can weave all the bamboo. Remember to tighten the wire always. In the last piece of the bamboo, tie the wire or knot it off tightly to lock the bamboo together.
You can weave on both sides of the bamboo and at the center to achieve sturdy and durable blinds. You can also double the wires to have very strong and long-lasting blinds.
7.Once done, you can now tie your DIY Bamboo Blinds and hang it proudly!
And here's ours! Charaaaan!
Our simple and easy DIY Bamboo Blinds! We now have the new and tough blinds that will protect us from the direct heat of the sun and the rain and wind! Surely, this will last longer compared to the tarpaulin and this cost us nothing!
Will definitely make one for the other side!
That's it for our DIY Bamboo Blinds, Hope I shared something useful to you today.Thank you for reading. I wish you all safe and well always.
