Last weekend I was visiting the city of Caracas to participate in a national plasticine molding contest.

In all the years I have been doing this art I had never participated in something like this, so this was a great opportunity for me to participate, meet other artists and enjoy the event. As I said, this took place in Caracas on Sunday, December 10, at the San Ignacio Shopping Center.

El fin se semana que pasó estuve de visita en la ciudad de Caracas para participar en un concurso nacional de moldeado de plastilina.

En todos los años que llevo haciendo este arte nunca había participado en algo así, por lo que esto era una gran oportunidad para mi, para participar, conocer a otros artistas y disfrutar del evento. Como dije, esto se hizo en Caracas el domingo 10 de diciembre, en el Centro Comercial San Ignacio.

When I arrived I saw that everything was ready, the tables where the participants would make their sculptures, the stage, the organizer's banner with the sponsors. Everything looked great, in an open area of the Mall.

I should clarify that I qualified for this contest using a sculpture I shared here on Hive. I placed in the top 20 out of hundreds of entrants nationwide.

I'm going to tell you that I didn't win, but I will tell you about my experience.

Al llegar vi que todo estaba listo, las mesas donde los participantes harían sus esculturas, la tarima, el pendón del organizador junto a los patrocinantes. Todo se veía muy bien, en un área abierta del Centro Comercial.

Debo aclarar que clasifiqué para este concurso usando una escultura que compartí aquí en Hive. Quedé entre los 20 entre cientos de participantes a nivel nacional.

Adelanto que no gané, pero sí les comentaré mi experiencia.

All at once I approached the tables to see the material with which we would make the sculptures for the contest. I approached and saw that they gave two boxes, one large and one a little smaller.

I must confess that this plasticine was not to my liking, because it stained and was too soft, but it was the organizer of the contest so it had to be used. Here I placed the little Dinosaur I made to qualify for this final and placed it on the table to take a picture of it.

De una vez me acerqué a las mesas para ver el material con el que haríamos las esculturas para el concurso. Me acerqué y vi que dieron dos cajas, una grande y una un poco más pequeña.

Debo confesar que esta plastilina no era de mi agrado, porque manchaba y era demasiada suave, pero era el organizador del concurso así que había que usarla. Aquí coloqué el pequeño Dinosaurio que hice para clasificar a esta final y lo coloqué en la mesa para tomarle una foto.

Of course I also approached the organizers to take a picture with them, as I had been in contact with one of the girls to make sure that it was the right date and that it was safe to travel to Caracas to participate.

It so happened that technically the contest was supposed to be a week earlier, but it was cancelled due to a political issue in my country and the date was postponed. So I was in contact with her to make sure of everything, I'm talking about the girl in the middle, the one with red hair.

Desde luego también me acerqué a los organizadores para tomarme una foto con ellos, pues había estado en contacto con una de las chicas para asegurarme de que sí era la fecha correcta y sí era seguro viajar a Caracas para participar.

Sucede que técnicamente el concurso era para una semana antes, pero se canceló por un tema político de mi país y se pospuso la fecha. Así que estuve en contacto con ella para ir seguro de todo, hablo de la chica del medio, la de cabello rojo.

Prior to the contest, a boy approached me when he saw the dinosaur sculpture. He recognized the sculpture and approached me to see it.

He had made an ant for the contest and it was quite interesting what he did, a very resistant sculpture despite being made of plasticine and having that size.

Previo al concurso, un chico se me acercó al ver la escultura del dinosaurio. Reconoció la escultura y se me acercó para verla.

Él había hecho una hormiga para el concurso y bastante interesante lo que hizo, una escultura bastante resistente a pesar de estar hecha de plastilina y tener ese tamaño.

Once the contest started, I took a seat with the adults, as there was a table for adults and another one for children, although the contest was not divided into categories, but adults competed with children, something uneven.

There I placed my dinosaur next to my implements, although I could not use them because they only allowed me to use my hands and the plasticine.

Una vez iniciado el concurso, tomé asiento con los adultos, pues había una mesa para adultos y otra para niños, aunque no estaba el concurso por categorías, sino que adultos competían con niños, algo disparejo.

Allí puse mi dinosaurio junto a mis implementos, aunque no pude usarlos pues permitieron usar solamente las manos y la plastilina.

They gave us about an hour and a half to make a sculpture of the drawing that was on the box, so I got to work.

I personally am not very good at making faces, I am better at sculptures of animals and beasts than at human anatomy, but of course I could do it, in my style, but I could do it.

Nos dieron aproximadamente hora y media para hacer una escultura del dibujo que estaba plasmado en la caja, así que puse manos a la obra.

Yo personalmente no soy muy bueno haciendo rostros, se me dan mejor las esculturas de animales y bestias que la anatomía humana, pero claro que podía hacerlo, a mi estilo, pero podría.

The other sculptors also got down to work and began to make their works of art. All great and very well done. There were very talented people there, even more talented than me.

Los otros escultores también pudieron manos a la obra y comenzaron a hacer sus obras de arte. Todas geniales y muy bien hechas. Habían personas con mucho talento allí, incluso más talento que yo.

I didn't stop anyway, I wanted to make my sculpture and I started to do it. Unlike the others, I made it from head to toe, from shoes to hair.

Igual no me detuve, quería hacer mi escultura y comencé a hacerla. A diferencia de los demás, la hice desde los pies a la cabeza, desde los zapatos hasta el cabello.

This is how the sculpture I made turned out. It was the best I could do at that time and with so many people watching me. I didn't really feel comfortable, but I did what I could and in my opinion, it turned out pretty cool.

Así quedó la escultura que hice. Fue lo mejor que pude hacer en ese tiempo y con tanta gente observándome. No me sentía cómodo la verdad, pero hice lo que pude y en mi opinión, quedó bastante genial.

As I said at the beginning, I did not win the contest. The judges made the decision to award prizes basically to children (quite a few children participated as well), because of the pressure in social networks to put adults in competition with children.

A mistake there, as they should have made the contest by categories, as there was no point of comparison in the sculptures of children with that of adults, but I guess it was good the theme of the prizes to keep the illusion in these future artists of the country. I must clarify, for the age they are, those kids are also very talented, they are amazing.

Even so, they gave me a bag with souvenirs and a small certificate for having participated. I keep the experience and I think it opens the way for more events of this type.

Como dije al comienzo, no gané el concurso. Los jueces tomaron la decisión de otorgar premios básicamente a los niños (participaron bastantes niños también), por la presión en redes sociales al poner a competir a adultos con niños.

Un error allí, pues debieron hacer el concurso por categorías, pues no había punto de comparación en las esculturas de niños con la de los adultos, pero supongo que estuvo bien el tema de los premios para mantener la ilusión en esos futuros artistas del país. Debo aclarar, para la edad que tienen, esos niños también tienen mucho talento, son asombrosos.

Aún así, me otorgaron una bolsa con recuerdos y un pequeño certificado por haber participado. Me queda la experiencia y creo que se abre el camino para mas eventos de este tipo.

On my part I must thank Hive because they have always supported me in this art that I have been sharing with you for some time. Without this space I would not have returned to molding anything, because it was something I had left aside due to circumstances.

I am truly grateful to all who have supported me, to the point that also several friends of hive helped me to get to the contest, without them it would not have been possible, so I will be eternally grateful for everything and for helping me to get here. A sincere hug and love from me.

De mi parte debo dar gracias a Hive porque siempre me han apoyado en este arte que he estado compartiendo con ustedes desde hace un tiempo. Sin este espacio no habría vuelto a moldear cosa alguna, pues era algo que había dejado de lado por las circunstancias.
