Today, I get to show off my helpful DIY tools, thanks to the #juneinleo today's topic in collaboration with #Hivediy community, if you are a regular of my blog you must have come across my beautiful designs, and if this is your first time on my blog, yes, One of my creative passion is making my clothes, and not just mine alone, I make beautiful outfits for my family and friends as well. It first started as a curious DIY project during the 2020 Covid pandemic, staying at home all day was boring, so I invested my time in making and distributing fabric face masks, YouTube was my first tutor, and look at me today, I have graduated from just making face masks to making beautiful dresses, that's the magic DIY does.
Without further ado, let me introduce you to some of my most helpful sewing tools.
Starting with my Scissors, I have them in different sizes and colors, I just had to take a snapshot of this particular one as it is my favorite of them all at the moment because it's sharper and my first go-to. Before any dress can be made it, has to be cut into different patterns and joined together, my scissors help me with that, obviously, I can't cut the fabrics with my hands lol.
Next is my Tape rule or measurement tape as some people call it, what do you call it? Let me know in the comment section, everyone has different body shapes and sizes, and fitting is an important aspect of dressmaking, to get the perfect fit, I make sure to take my correct body measurement or whoever I'm making a dress for, which helps in guiding the pattern making process.
Needle and threads
Every pattern drafted needs to come together to form a dress, my needles and threads are used in joining the pattern pieces and attaching a button to a shirt, sometimes I use my hands in joining, and most times
I join the patterns with the help of my sewing or weaving machine, the weaving machine helps finish the raw edges of the fabric against frails.
I also have my Rivet tool and it has multiple purposes, from making a loop ring like you can see at the back of the dress below,
loop rings can also be used in bags or shoes apart from clothing, my rivet helps me make cover buttons, and it can be used to add pearls to dresses, all I need to do is change the different sides below that comes with it, as each performs specific functions.
Last but not the least is my Rhinestone applicator, who else loves to add glittering stones to their outfit? I sure do, I love adding glittering effect with the help of my rhinestone applicator, all I have to do is get it plugged into an electricity source, and then I start applying the stones to my desired area of the dresses.
I can't end this post without showing off my mannequin, I still feel as excited as I felt the first day I bought this mannequin after a couple of months of savings because it has been of great help in displaying the dresses I make in a more presentable manner rather than laying the Dress on the floor like I used to, so I think It deserves a spot on my list DIY tools.
I remember when I had none of these tools and only wished for them, through determination, consistency, and saving, I was able to get them, I still wish to have more tools and I believe I will as time goes on, as they make my sewing projects easier, faster and presentable.
I recently introduced my 6 years old daughter to how to use needles and threads in making dresses for her dolls and she is as excited as I was the first time trying my hands on sewing, that's the joy of DIY, it can also be passed on to several generations as long as we keep the fire burning.
