A friend told a friend of his acquaintance that I was doing printing work so he contacted me around the beginning of the year 2022 and asked me for a quote for the mask of The Kid of Darkness, I searched the internet for the 3D model, I found that the original mask cost 300 dollars and I got information about what this mask was because I was very curious, I learned that it is a brand used by a heavy metal band. I passed the quote to this person, he thought about it and told me he would talk to me later since it was something I needed for Halloween. Time passed and I thought he was not going to ask me for it because of its high cost, but two weeks before the Halloween party he contacted me to ask me for it, I went back to get a quote for printing and painting because in Argentina all the time prices are updated and change. A material to make a project or to paint you can get a price today and tomorrow it can double. He clearly understood this and accepted the budget.

Un material para hacer un proyecto o para pintar te puede salir un precio hoy y mañana aumentar al doble. El claramente lo entendió y acepto el presupuesto.

I had a deadline of two weeks to finish the work while I was studying and working, a major challenge but I had already accepted so I just had to move forward, optimize the time and fulfill the order. I started printing all the 3D pieces, since I had to paint them it was not necessary to make them in a specific color, but I chose light colors so it would be easier to cover it later. The mask was made up of three pieces, the lower jaw, the upper jaw and the top of the head, it was more convenient to print these pieces separately to improve times and avoid mistakes.
Once the pieces were set up and printed I checked that everything fit and had an acceptable finish, it was not necessary to be perfect since I had to putty and paint the mask.
Tenía un plazo de dos semanas para terminar el trabajo mientras yo estaba cursando y trabajando, un reto importante pero ya había aceptado así que solo quedaba seguir para delante, optimizar los tiempos y cumplir con el pedido. Comencé imprimiendo todas las piezas 3D, al tener que pintarlas no era necesaria hacerlas de un color específico, eso sí, elegí colores claros para que posteriormente me sea más fácil cubrirlo. La máscara estaba conformada por tres piezas, la mandíbula inferior, la mandíbula superior y la parte de arriba de la cabeza, era más conveniente imprimir estas piezas separadas para mejorar los tiempos y evitar errores.Una vez configure las piezas y las imprimir verifique que todo encajara y tuviera un acabado aceptable, no era necesario que fuera perfecto ya que tenía que masillar y pintar la máscara.

It was more than 24 hours of printing between all the pieces, when I had them I began to putty with a plastic putty that I use for all my work, to place it I recommend using latex gloves and go covering all areas to be better distributed, also try to do this in an open place or with good air flow because the putty has a very strong odor that can cause headaches to be exposed to the smell for a long time. Luckily this putty dries fast, in about 15 to 30 minutes everything was ready to start sanding.
Fueron más de 24 horas de impresión entre todas las piezas, al tenerlas comencé a masillar con una masilla plástica que utilizo para todos mis trabajos, para colocarla recomiendo usar unos guantes de latex e ir cubriendo todas las zonas para que quede mejor distribuido, también intenten hacer esto en un lugar abierto o con buena corriente de aire ya que la masilla tiene un olor muy fuerte que puede llegar a provocar dolores de cabeza al estar expuesto mucho tiempo a su olor. Por suerte esta masilla seca rápido, en unos 15 o 30 minutos todo estaba listo para comenzar a lijar.

I started with a coarse grain sandpaper to water, why start with a coarse grain? It is better because it allows to remove the big pieces or lumps of putty that remain on the piece, then you have to decrease the grain of the sandpaper to achieve a better finish in addition to wet them to go polishing the piece in this way we avoid that the mask is scratched as this would stand out a lot when painting. So to speak, when sanding with water we generate a polishing effect that leaves a much smoother and homogeneous finish to begin with the painting work.
Comencé con una lija de grano grueso al agua, ¿Por qué comenzar con un grano grueso? Es mejor ya que permite retirar los grandes trozos o grumos de masilla que quedan sobre la pieza, posteriormente hay que ir disminuyendo el grano de la lija para lograr una mejor terminación además de mojarlas para ir puliendo la pieza de esta forma evitamos que la máscara quede rayada ya que esto al pintar resaltaría mucho. Por decirlo de alguna forma al lijar con agua logramos generar un efecto de pulido que deja una terminación muchísimo más suave y homogénea para poder comenzar con el trabajo de pintura.

La verdad al vivir en un departamento cuento con poco espacio, pero lo que me falta en espacio me sobra en ideas.
