The Nutcracker is a Christmas story in which a girl named Clara receives a wooden doll in the shape of a soldier as a gift. During the night this toy comes to life and turns into a handsome Prince and they live a magical adventure. This story is very famous in the world, since it is represented in a classical ballet, and as I mentioned in an emblematic Christmas story.
The soldier represents protection and courage in the face of adversity. I know this story because in my daughters' school when they were little, there were usually representations of this magical tale at Christmas.
El Cascanueces es un cuento de navidad, en el cual una niña llamada Clara recibe de regalo un muñeco de madera con forma de soldado. Durante la noche este juguete cobra vida y se convierte en un apuesto Príncipe y viven una aventura mágica. Este cuento es muy famoso en el mundo, ya que es representado en un ballet clásico, y como les mencioné en un cuento de Navidad emblemático.
El soldado representa la protección y la valentía frente las adversidades. Conozco esta historia porque en el colegio de mis hijas cuando eran pequeñas, generalmente había representaciones de este cuento de magia en Navidad.
For the internal structure of the Nutcracker Soldier I wanted it to be strong, so that it would last over time and be easy to keep intact. So, I decided to use a potato chip container that I had saved from this weekend. You can really make it out of anything, such as brown paper, another type of cardboard, PVC pipe, etc. but I used what I had on hand and it was a useful material.
Para la estructura interna del Soldado de "El Cascanueces" quería que fuese fuerte, para que dure en el tiempo y sea fácil de tener de forma íntegra. Entonces, me decidí a utilizar un envase de papas fritas que había guardado de este fin de semana. Realmente lo puedes hacer con cualquier cosas, como por ejemplo carpeta marrón, otro tipo de cartón, tubo de pvc, etc. pero yo utilicé lo que tenía a mano y que sea un material de provecho.

The first thing I did was to place a white recycled sheet and mark the sections or the design of the Nutcracker Soldier. This will make it easier for me to cut the materials to the right size so as not to waste them and speed up the process.
With the draft of the design, I cut two black stripes, one skin-colored and another in the frosted foam of your choice.
Then, I glue and overlap those stripes.
Lo primero que hice fue colocar una hoja blanca reciclada, e ir marcando las secciones o el diseño del Soldado Cascanueces, esto me facilitará cortar los materiales en su justa medida para no desperdiciarlos y acelerar el proceso.
Ya con el borrador del diseño, corté dos franjas negras, una color piel y otra en el foami escarchado de tu preferencia.Luego, voy pegando y sobreponiendo esas franjas.

I continue gluing the stripes according to my design. I cut strips from gold cardstock and glued them with hot glue, in some of the divisions, as you can see in the following images:

Using some recycled cardboard and black cardstock, I'm going to form the top of this Soldier's hat. I'll glue it on top and then place one of the gold strips.
Con un poco de cartón reciclado y cartulina de color negro, voy a formar el tope del sombrero de este Soldado. Lo pego arriba y luego coloco una de las tiras color dorada.

A detail that adds interest and dimension to this design would be the combination of materials that give it more dimension. For this reason I decided to place a gold chain on top of the Soldier's hat.
I also cut some very thin strips from the gold cardstock, and some circles to simulate the buttons and some details of the clothing, and I placed them on the body part.
Un detalle que le aporta interés y dimensiones a este diseño, serían la combinación de materiales que le dan más dimensión. Por esto decidí colocar una cadena dorada arriba en el sombrero del Soldado.
También corté unas tiras muy delgadas en la cartulina dorada, y unos círculos para que simulen lo botones y algunos detalles de la ropa, y lo coloqué en la parte del cuerpo.

As you can see, the gold cardstock is everything in this design, it is necessary to make the design stand out more.
Como pueden ver la cartulina dorada lo es todo en este diseño, es necesaria para que resalte más el diseño.
The arms were very easy to make. I made the arms with two pieces of frosted foam and the hands with two skin-colored strips; I rolled them together as shown in the following images. I also cut two strips of gold cardboard and two circles to highlight the details.
Los brazos fueron muy fáciles de realizar, con dos trozos de foami escarchado hice los brazos y con dos tiras de color piel realicé las manos; enrollando ambos como se ve en las siguientes imágenes. También corté dos tiras de cartulina dorada y dos círculos, para resaltar.

Below you can see how I placed a gold strip on top of the edge, and the circle on top as well to make the shoulder. Then, both arms are glued to the sides of this soldier's body.
A continuación puede ver como coloqué una tira dorada arriba en el borde, y el círculo arriba también para hacer el hombro. Luego, ambos brazos se pegan en los laterales del cuerpo de este soldado.

I wanted to add more interest to the hat by adding a three-dimensional flap, which I glued on to make sure it was upright.
I made the eyes and mustache out of black cardboard, it was a pretty free design really, what I thought of doing, and then I glued it on with just a little hot glue.
Al sombrero le quise agregar más interés, colocándole una solapa en forma tridimensional, y la pegué garantizando que quede levantada.
Los ojos y el bigote lo realicé en cartulina de color negro, fue un diseño bastante libre realmente, lo que se me ocurrió hacer, y luego lo pegué con apenas un poco de silicón caliente.

Another detail on the Soldier's hat was to take a piece of the foam I'm working with, cut it into a teardrop shape, then make cuts as if it were a feather. Then, I glued an oval of gold cardboard, both as you can see in the images.
Otro detalle en el sombrero del Soldado, fue tomar un trozo del foami con el que estoy trabajando, lo corté en forma de gota, luego realizarle cortes como si se tratase de una pluma. Luego, un óvalo de cartulina dorada, pegué ambos como lo ven en las imágenes.

It turned out so beautiful, I loved the result. You can experiment with more colors, materials, and in the design itself you can change the clothes, the face and even add legs. But I wanted to leave this design like this, establishing that the black color below is the legs.
Así quedó de bello, me encantó el resultado. Puedes experimentar con más colores, materiales, y en el propio diseño que puedes variarle la ropa, el rostro e incluso colocarle piernas. Pero este diseño lo quise dejar así, estableciendo que el color negro de abajo son sus piernas.
