On a stretch of fresh green leaves, a great eggfly butterfly basked in the gentle sunlight. Its wings were perfectly outstretched. They hadn't moved once while I was there. It was as still as a statue. If there were a competition in the insect world to remain motionless, I'm sure this butterfly would be a winner.
The butterfly I encountered seemed to be entering its senior years, its wings were starting to fade, and some of its wingtips were damaged. Although the color had faded and its wings were no longer perfect, its charm remained the same. Its allure captivated all who glanced at it.
In Latin, this butterfly is known as Hypolimnas bolina. It belongs to the Nymphalidae family. The great eggfly is one of the easiest butterflies to spot, especially in gardens with colorful flowers. During their activities, they spend most of their time in flower-filled gardens.
