Character trait variations are always interesting because they allow us to customize them to our liking. Thinking about that and taking advantage of the Trait contest that is still active in the community I decided to work on the water healer.
If I get to use it this is one of the appearances I would like to have, although I kept the original illustration I tried to change all the colors in the character's features, only the skin and a part of the clothing I kept the same, the rest I completely customized it.
I didn't want to move him away from his original version to the point that he didn't look like an aquatic character, although at the moment of the customization that can be indifferent due to the subjectivity of each one.
Artwork Steps
The process requires a lot of patience, painting is not as easy as it seems, the advantage of doing it digitally is that you can go back and forth between layers until you get the desired result.
Color palette
I painted each part of the character separately, I couldn't do it any other way because it would damage the shadows and in the end it wouldn't look good, added to that I had to paint under different layer styles, which makes the process more challenging and fun.
It was a trial and error work, I tried many combinations until I was satisfied, in total it took 5 hours, and the program I used was Adobe Photoshop.
After finishing it I added a background which I painted in watercolor to better simulate the water and harmonize the illustration. I hope you like the result.
