Hello Zingers!
How are you all? I hope everyone is having a wonderful day.
Holozing project is something else XD. The game is not even released yet but the community is incredibly active. It's really fun when everyone is being a part of the project in any way that they can. I was able to see many unseen and underrated artists of Hive because of this so I gotta thank @Acidyo and his team for this opportunity. It kinda makes you think that where were these talented individuals all this time xd. Anyway, if you guys didn't know I'm not very good at drawing animals. I try but I don't have much experience drawing with them. I posted few holozing artworks before and I gotta say I'm seeing a lot of improvements these days because of the practice I get from posting these fanarts so I'm continuing the streak and decided to end this month with another holozing fanart.
Meet Viri an original character I made to team up with Chirple!
The Process
Fun fact, I was working on this lineart yesterday and my drawing software crashed with an error xd. Usually it recovers it but not this time. I spend like 5 hrs experimenting with what to add and remove in this artwork and I almost lost my mind when it crashed xd. Luckily my software records the whole thing so I checked and thank goodness it was recorded there. So I took a screenshot of the sketch and made this artwork that you see now. Imagine if it didn't record lmao. I would have probably ditched this idea xd. Moral of the story is even if your drawing software is saving automatically just save it manually from time to time. We don't want any traumatic experience now so we haha.
Now since the work was saved I made a clean lineart and all was looking pretty good. I made Viri to sync with Chirple's character design as well so her clothes are made to look that way. Before that I was searching for a good pose reference to draw this. I found one from Pinterest as usual after searching for an hour. No, I'm not kidding xd. I didnt like any other references I saw in there before this one. Once I was able to make a rough sketch of the pose I added things on top of that to make what you see now. Her top is inspired from Jujutsu Kaisen uniform. I don't think I saw anyone using this type of clothing for the healer trait contest so far. I could be wrong though. I couldn't possibly go through all those comments xd. God save the Judges xd!
Adding the colours on the clothes was the tricky part. I experimented as usual and came up with the one you see now. Painting on multiple layers definitely made things easier. Drawing chirple lineart was pretty fast. Small character but still the angle was different so I won't say it was a piece of cake lol. Painting Chirple was the hardest part. I tried two styles before this but both of them sucked and didn't sync well with the style I used for Viri. After a few tries I finally understood how to paint it. Usually after the basic rendering I stop but I decided to add a strong light source on the right side and highlighted our characters. I feel like they are now more blended into the forest background now. I finished painting with some particle effects in the atmosphere by controlling the brush opacity and adding a pattern around Chirple to show the wings in dynamic form. I think it worked haha. I hope you enjoyed the process.
