I have always been a "weird girl", with this I mean I have always felt curious or fascinated by topics that are usually seen as morbid. Topics like death, corpses and funeral rituals.
A few years ago I found a book that made me feel love at first sight. This book is "From here to Eternity", by author Caitlin Doughty. In this book we get to read about a travel around the world learning about different funeral rituals and the different ways each culture treats their deceased. This book quickly became one of my all time favorites, not only for the theme but for the illustrations by Landis Blair.
Siempre he sido una "chica rara", con esto me refiero a que siempre he sentido una curiosidad o fascinación por los temas que normalmente son considerados mórbidos. Temas como la muerte, cadáveres y rituales funerarios.
Hace unos años di con un libro con el que sentí amor a primera vista. Este libro se llama "De Aqui a la Eternidad", escrito por Caitlin Doughty. En el se narra el viaje al rededor del mundo presenciando distintos ritos funerarios y las diversas maneras en qué cada cultura comulga con sus difuntos. Demás está decir que es uno de mis libros favoritos, tanto por el tema que trata como por sus ilustraciones, las cuales son obra de Landis Blair.
There's one chapter dedicated to Bolivia in which I found my favorite illustration, it is a Ñatita. Ñatitas are skulls that form part of the popular devotional, they are worshipped and in exchange they help their fervent devotees.
I recently had my birthday and a dear friend and excellent tattoo artist told me that his present would be a new tattoo, so we decided to do this ñatita.
En un capítulo dedicado a Bolivia encontré mi ilustración favorita, se trata de una Ñatita. Las ñatitas son cráneos parte del devocionario popular, se les rinde culto y a cambio ayudan a sus fervientes devotos.
Hace poco fue mi cumpleaños y un gran amigo y excelente tatuador me dijo que iba a obsequiarme un tatuaje nuevo, así que nos decidimos por ésta Ñatita.
After a long talk after almost a month without seeing each other, picking a playlist we both would enjoy and smoking a few cigarettes we started the process.
I really admire his work and I had the joy to have him doing my Edgar Allan Poe portrait, so I knew very well he was going to do a great work with this tattoo and of course he did.
Luego de una larga conversación poniéndonos al día después de tener casi un mes sin vernos, elegir un playlist del gusto de ambos y fumar unos cigarrillos pusimos manos a la obra.
Admiro mucho su trabajo y ya tuve la dicha de que fuera el quien me realizara el retrato de Edgar Allan Poe, así que sabía bien que iba a hacer un excelente trabajo con el tatuaje de esta oportunidad y así fue.
Now we are planning the rest of the details we will add, keeping in mind I already have Edgar Allan Poe on one side and a ñatita on the other. So we will keep the dark theme in a grayscale so we don't break the mood, and he will be retouching my older tattoos that are starting to lose definition.
I am extremely happy with the end result and it is definitely one of the best presents I have gotten lately.
Ahora estamos planeando el resto de detalles que agregaremos, teniendo en cuenta que tengo a Edgar Allan Poe de un lado, y del otro una Ñatita. Así que seguiremos con un tono dark en tonos grises para no romper con la temática, además de que pronto estaremos restaurando mis tatuajes más antiguos que ya empiezan a mostrar el paso del tiempo.
Estoy sumamente complacida con el resultado y es definitivamente uno de los mejores regalos que he recibido últimamente.
