Todos somos conscientes que los cambios son necesarios e importantes. Para muchos este estado de consciencia nos mueve a realizar acciones para trasformar una realidad en la que no nos encontramos satisfechos, para otros es posible que asumamos que tenemos que realizarlos, pero no hallamos el camino para tal fin y nos quedamos en ese estado de inacción caracterizado por:

El pensamiento rumiador. Con persistencia y constancia el pensamiento recurrente te asecha y cuando acuerdas te encuentras sumergido en ese mar de ideas preguntándote. ¿Hasta cuándo voy a estar en esta situación, cuándo voy a actuar, qué voy a hacer? Y aunque es un pensamiento desgastante y agotador, no logras entrar en acción.

La queja.Te anotas en el discurso de la queja en el cual eres capaz de reconocer y expresar lo que te molesta, donde te paras la expresas en ese tono característico e inconfundible de la derrota, del que no hay nada que hacer y que en última instancia te vas reafirmando en la impotencia para actuar y transformar.

Seguir creyendo que el cambio viene de afuera. Le das larga al asunto con la esperanza de que ocurra un milagro que transforme la realidad que estás viviendo, que aparezca un salvador o salvadora que cambie la situación, en fin, que suceda algo fuera de ti que alivie la situación, junto a esta idea estás convencido que cuando eso suceda vas a poder vivir tu vida o vas a ser feliz, en otras palabras no te responsabilizas de tu vida y de lo que sucede en ella.

Hay una pregunta que es fundamental para el trabajo del coaching, en todas las preparaciones que he realizado en torno a este conocimiento surge como la mejor manera de confrontarnos y que nos lleva a un “darme cuenta de”, también ha estado presente en mí formaciones para emprender permitiéndonos evaluarnos para conocernos más profundamente en nuestras fortalezas y debilidades actuando en consecuencia.

Actualmente, estoy leyendo un libro que trata la codependencia y entre sus líneas me volví a encontrar con la pregunta, constatando que es una interrogante poderosa porque nos permite, en un primer momento, autoevaluarnos y en un segundo momento nos lleva a proyectarnos. Lo más interesante es que entre el punto A y el punto B se encuentran las acciones para moverte del uno al otro. Es probable que ya sepas de qué pregunta te hablo: ¿Dónde estoy y dónde quiero estar? Dos preguntas en una, la primera cobra su sentido con la segunda.

Es una pregunta que se puede aplicar a cualquier área o situación de nuestra vida: en lo emocional, relacional, laboral, en nuestras creencias, en lo que hacemos y dejamos de hacer, en la salud, en el dinero, pero su gran valor, a mi modo de entender, es que con ella asumimos la responsabilidad de nuestra vida llevándonos a comprender que los pensamientos, las quejas y el otro se han convertido en la rueda del hámster donde hemos estado girando y que ya es hora de bajarnos para hacer algo distinto que nos lleve a donde queremos estar.

Hay relaciones, emociones, sentimientos, situaciones en los que nos enganchamos aun cuando ellas nos generan malestar, en momento nos convencemos de que no hay alternativas para un cambio y allí es donde la pregunta ¿Dónde estoy y dónde quiero estar? Nos puede ayudar, pongamos un ejemplo:

Felipe está agotado, siente que su vida se ha convertido en una rutina que lo agobia, entre el trabajo, los hijos, la pareja y el hogar hay momentos en que se plantea que vive para que los demás estén felices y cómodos y que él no tiene un tiempo para hacer algo por y para él. La rutina lo ha alejado de las cosas que amaba: dejó de leer, de practicar la flauta y no recuerda en qué momento paró su rutina de ejercicios. Cuando se plantea hacer cambios, la respuesta que le llega es que estos son imposibles, no hay otra manera de organizar los días, es lo que toca, quizás en algún momento las cosas cambien o cuando los niños crezcan o, o, o, … Este es el dónde estoy de Felipe.

Ahora, se plantea él ¿Dónde quiero estar? Esta pregunta tiene un mayor efecto cuando te la formulas en términos de tiempo. ¿Dónde quiero estar dentro de tres meses, seis meses, un año?
Esto nos lleva a comprender que si no actuamos vamos a estar en el mismo lugar en que nos encontramos hoy y si estás pidiendo un cambio, únicamente tú puedes propiciarlo.

No va a venir nadie con una varita mágica a transformar, el que escucha tus quejas constantes, se fastidiará y probablemente llegará un momento en que te oye como quien oye llover y tus pensamientos seguirán repitiéndote la misma imposibilidad a la que ya lo has acostumbrado.

Felipe formula su dónde quiero estar con estas palabras: Quiero a mi esposa e hijos, quiero mi hogar, pero también quiero un tiempo para mí, quiero sentir la satisfacción que me daba llegar a mi casa después de una buena dosis de ejercicios, darme un baño gratificante en sana paz, quiero retomar la lectura en un espacio de quietud y tranquilidad, deseo tocar la flauta o retomar mis lecciones de guitarra.

Después de dejar de lado todas las imposibilidades, logra centrarse en lo que si pudiera hacer y elabora una lista con sus posibilidades:

Utilizar el tiempo en que sus hijos están en la práctica deportiva para el también realizar sus ejercicios.
Llevarse su instrumento musical y encontrar un espacio cercano donde ejercitar.
Hacer cierre del día doméstico a la nueve de la noche y a partir de allí tomarse las dos horas antes de acostarse para realizar alguna actividad que él desee hacer.
Acordar con su esposa una mejor distribución del tiempo que, cada uno dispone, después de la jornada laboral.

Con estas propuestas, Felipe se centra en escoger dos para integrarlas a un plan de acción durante los próximos tres meses a ver qué sucede.

La pregunta no es la panacea del cambio, sin embargo nos permite ver posibilidades donde creemos que no las hay, nos ayuda a salir de un estado de inercia responsabilizándonos por nuestra situación y nos ayuda a soltar esos enganches negativos que nos alejan del bienestar.

We are all aware that changes are necessary and important. For many this state of consciousness moves us to take actions to transform a reality in which we are not satisfied, for others it is possible that we assume that we have to make them, but we do not find the way to that end and we remain in that state of inaction characterized by:

Ruminating thinking. With persistence and constancy the recurrent thought haunts you and when you remember you find yourself submerged in that sea of ideas asking yourself: How long am I going to be in this situation, when am I going to act, what am I going to do? And although it is a tiring and exhausting thought, you do not manage to take action.

The complaint. You are able to recognize and express what bothers you, where you stop and express it in that characteristic and unmistakable tone of defeat, that there is nothing to do and that ultimately you are reaffirming your impotence to act and transform.

To continue believing that change comes from outside. You give long to the matter with the hope that a miracle happens to transform the reality you are living, that a savior appears to change the situation, in short, that something happens outside of you to alleviate the situation, along with this idea you are convinced that when that happens you will be able to live your life or you will be happy, in other words you do not take responsibility for your life and what happens in it.

There is a question that is fundamental to the work of coaching, in all the preparations I have done around this knowledge arises as the best way to confront us that leads us to a "realization of", it has also been present in my trainings for entrepreneurship allowing us to evaluate ourselves to know ourselves more deeply in our strengths and weaknesses acting accordingly.

Currently, I am reading a book that deals with codependence and among its lines I came across the question again, realizing that it is a powerful question because it allows us, in a first moment, to self-evaluate ourselves and in a second moment it leads us to project ourselves. The most interesting thing is that between point A and point B are the actions to move from one to the other. You probably already know what question I am talking about: Where am I and where do I want to be? Two questions in one, the first one makes sense with the second one.

It is a question that can be applied to any area or situation of our life: in the emotional, relational, work, in our beliefs, in what we do and do not do, in health, in money, but its great value, in my opinion, is that with it we assume responsibility for our life leading us to understand that thoughts, complaints and the other have become the hamster wheel where we have been spinning and that it is time to get off to do something different that takes us to where we want to be.

There are relationships, emotions, feelings, situations in which we get hooked even when they generate discomfort, at the moment we convince ourselves that there are no alternatives for a change and that is where the question "Where am I and where do I want to be? Can help us, let's take an example:

Felipe is exhausted, he feels that his life has become a routine that overwhelms him, between work, children, couple and home there are times when he thinks that he lives to make others happy and comfortable and that he does not have time to do something for and by himself. The routine has taken him away from the things he loved: he stopped reading, stopped practicing the flute and does not remember when he stopped his exercise routine. When he considers making changes, the answer he gets is that these are impossible, there is no other way to organize the days, it is what he has to do, maybe at some point things will change or when the children grow up or, or, or, or, or, ... This is Felipe's where I am.

Now, he asks himself: Where do I want to be? This question has a greater effect when you formulate it in terms of time: where do I want to be in three months, six months, a year? This leads us to understand that if we do not act, we will be in the same place we are today, and if you are asking for a change, only you can bring it about.

No one is going to come with a magic wand to transform, the one who listens to your constant complaints will get annoyed and probably there will come a time when he hears you like someone who hears rain and your thoughts will keep repeating the same impossibility to which you have already accustomed him.

Felipe formulates his where I want to be with these words: I want my wife and children, I want my home, but I also want some time for myself, I want to feel the satisfaction that came from coming home after a good dose of exercise, I want to take a rewarding bath in healthy peace, I want to resume reading in a space of quiet and tranquility, I want to play the flute or resume my guitar lessons.

After putting aside all the impossibilities, she manages to focus on what she could do and lists her possibilities:

Use the time when his children are at sports practice for him to also do his exercises.
Take his musical instrument with him and find a space nearby where he can exercise.
To close the domestic day at nine o'clock at night and from there to take the two hours before going to bed to carry out some activity that he wishes to do.
Agree with his wife on a better distribution of the time that each of them has after work.

With these proposals, Felipe focuses on choosing two to integrate into an action plan for the next three months to see what happens.

The question is not the panacea for change, however it allows us to see possibilities where we believe there are none, it helps us to get out of a state of inertia by taking responsibility for our situation and helps us to let go of those negative attachments that keep us away from wellbeing.
