Hello, friends of @holos-lotus. You'll agree with me that when it comes to learning for life, there are no better teachers than the elderly and children. In the former, the voice of experience tells us the secrets of the path that lies ahead, one that, in some way, they have already traveled. Children, on the other hand, even if they lack experience, or are still building it, possess the gift of curiosity, wonder, and an instinctive wisdom to survive, saving that glimmer of hope that we sometimes struggle to maintain as adults.
The incredible thing about all this, at least as I see it, is that every discovery made by a child, even when presented with that dazzlement of discoverers (so common at their age), is seen as something natural. Let me explain: in their worldview, everything is possible and at the same time astonishing. Something very beautiful happened to me recently: a phrase spoken by my son (who, from saving me so much, I think he can sense the exact moment I need to see the world through his eyes) made me reflect on something that sometimes, amidst the daily struggles, I forget to do as I should.
We were returning home after picking him up from school. We had taken public transportation without a roof, so just by looking up we could see the evening sky more fully than through a window.
My son had remained silently gazing at the sky throughout the entire ride. He is a very sensitive child and deeply enjoys everything that seems beautiful to him. I thought maybe he was playing a game of guessing shapes in the clouds or discovering all the colors that blend together at sunset, but apparently not. At one point during the trip, he asked me, "Mom, do you remember the accident I had once, when a motorcycle almost killed me?"
"Yes," I replied, "of course I remember, but... why do you think that now?"
My son was nine years old when we had that conversation. The accident he was talking about had happened over a year ago, when, while he was playing in a park, a motorcycle entered the road to cut into the road (violating traffic laws) and ended up accidentally hitting him while he was playing. The injuries were serious, but fortunately, nothing major happened. The thing is, it caught my attention that on that very day, when nothing obvious related to an accident had happened, my son was talking to me about the subject. When I asked him why he was thinking about it at that moment, he responded with another question:
"Do you know why I didn't die?"
I decided to naturally follow his conversation.
"No," I said, "why didn't you die?"
I'll always remember his answer:
"Because God gave me another chance. And you know what I'm going to do with my second chance?" "Take advantage of it"
After saying this, he looked up at the sky again in silence, as if part of taking advantage of life was enjoying beauty with your eyes wide open.
Those on the bus next to us just looked at me and remained silent, which I found beautiful.
My son doesn't know it, but I often think about his words. I, too, have managed to survive so many things... How many opportunities have I been given? I've lost count. But even though I hate to admit it, I'm aware that, perhaps, I haven't taken advantage of them as I should have. My son reminded me of what I must do. The pain is there; it's impossible to change the past, but looking at the future, we still have an opportunity, and I intend to seize it.

Hola, amigos de @holos-lotus. Coincidirán conmigo en que si de aprendizaje para la vida se trata no hay mejores maestros que los ancianos y los niños. En los primeros la voz de la experiencia nos cuenta esos secretos del camino que nos espera en lo adelante, por el cual, de algún modo, ellos ya han transitado. Los niños, en cambio, aunque carezcan de experiencia, o aún las estén construyendo, poseen el don de la curiosidad, el asombro y una sabiduría instintiva para sobrevivir salvando esa luz de esperanza que a veces nos cuesta tanto mantener cuando somos adultos.
Lo increíble de todo esto, al menos como yo lo veo, es que cada descubrimiento hecho por un niño, aún planteado con ese deslumbramiento de los descubridores (tan común a su edad) es visto como algo natural. Me explico mejor: en su visión del mundo todo es posible y a la vez asombroso.
Hace poco me ocurrió algo muy lindo: una frase dicha por mi hijo (que de tanto salvarme, creo que adivina el momento justo en que necesito ver el mundo a través de sus ojos) me hizo reflexionar sobre algo que a veces, entre el batallar diario, olvido hacer como debería.
Íbamos de regreso a casa después de recogerlo en su escuela. Habíamos tomado un transporte público sin cubierta en el techo, por lo que con solo mirar hacia arriba podíamos ver el cielo del atardecer más plenamente que por una ventanilla.
Mi hijo se había mantenido durante todo el viaje mirando al cielo en silencio. Es un niño muy sensible y disfruta profundamente todo lo que le parece hermoso. Pensé que tal vez jugaba a adivinar formas en las nubes o a descubrir todos los colores que se mezclan en el atardecer, pero al parecer no era así. En un momento del viaje me preguntó: "Mamá, ¿tú recuerdas el accidente que tuve una vez, cuando por poco me mata una moto?"
—Sí —le respondí—, claro que me acuerdo, pero... ¿por qué piensas eso ahora?
Mi hijo tenía nueve años cuando tuvimos esa conversación. El accidente del que hablaba había ocurrido hacía más de un año, cuando, mientras jugaba en un parque, una moto entró para cortar camino (violando la leyes del tránsito) y terminó por chocarlo accidentalmente mientras jugaba entretenido. Los golpes fueron serios, pero dichosamente no hubo que lamentar males mayores.
El caso es que me llamó la atención que justo ese día, en el cual no había ocurrido nada evidente asociado a ningún accidente, mi hijo me hablara del tema. Cuando le pregunté por qué pensaba en eso en ese momento, me respondió con otra pregunta:
—"¿Sabes por qué no morí?"
Yo decidí seguir naturalmente su conversación.
—No —le dije—, ¿por qué no moriste?"
Su respuesta la recuerdo siempre:
"Porque Dios me dió otra oportunidad. ¿Y sabes qué voy a hacer con mi otra oportunidad? Aprovecharla"
Después de decir esto volvió a mirar al cielo en silencio, como si parte de aprovechar la vida fuera disfrutar la belleza con los ojos bien abiertos.
Quienes iban en el transporte junto a nosotros solo me miraron e hicieron un silencio que me pareció hermoso.
Mi hijo no lo sabe, pero con mucha frecuencia pienso en sus palabras. Yo también he logrado sobrevivir a tantas cosas... ¿Cuántas oportunidades se me han dado? He perdido la cuenta. Pero aún cuando pese reconocerlo, soy consciente de que, tal vez, no las he aprovechado como debería. Mi hijo me recordó lo que debo hacer. Los dolores están, es imposible cambiar el pasado, pero sobre el futuro aún nos queda una oportunidad, y pienso aprovecharla.
