Este es un tema muy actual, donde todos te hablan del amor propio y como se cultiva, puedes encontrar millones de consejos para aplicar y fortalecerlo, pero nadie te dice del trabajon interno que debes hacer para aplicarlo, ni que es algo que debes aplicar día a día para fortalecerlo. Y ojo, no digo esto buscando desanimarte, sino que lo digo para que no te sientas mal si sientes que todavía no aplicas el amor propio en tu vida.
La verdad es que muchas veces sentirás que es insuficiente, pero así como empezaste gateando para después dar tus primeros pasos, así es el proceso de amarte más. Es un proceso de pequeños pasos para aprender a amar cada parte de ti. No lo romanticemos, no solo debes amar las partes luminosas de ti, también debes aprender a reconocer tus lados oscuros y está en ti reconocerlos. Cero sencillo, pero realista.
En mi caso, mi amor propio es un tema. Me ha llevado a dar muchos pequeños pasos. Lo principal que he tenido que aprender es ponerme un límite a la hora de trabajar. Entender que está bien descansar y cuidar mi cuerpo físico y mental ha sido algo complejo. Por mucho tiempo he vivido llevándome al límite del agotamiento y eso, a estas alturas del partido, me ha estado cobrando factura. Cortisol alto, estrés, ansiedad, dolores de espalda, hormonas desreguladas, entre otras cosas son a las que me he tenido que enfrentar por el poco cuidado que he tenido. Pero al ser consciente de la situación he podido aplicar pequeñas cosas como alimentarme mejor, dormir más, tomar tiempo para distraerme y hacer cosas que me ayuden a sentirme mejor.
Otra cosa que he tenido que hacer es poner límites en mi relaciones personales. Sean familia, amigos, conocidos, he puesto límites claros. Eso ha traído como consecuencia que mi círculo social se ha reducido un poco-bastante, pero ha sido necesario. No es fácil cuando se trata de familia, pero a las malas aprendí lo desgastante que es insistir en reforzar vínculos que la otra persona no toma en cuenta. Duele bastante, pero más duele estar ahí dando cuando el otro no está dispuesto a recibir ni apreciar tus gestos. Esto aplica a todas las relaciones.
Ahorita, estoy trabajando en verme mejor. Y cuando digo verme mejor es aprender a querer mi cuerpo tal como está, cada cicatriz, kilo demas, granito, mancha, arrugas por reír y llorar, amar cada pedacito de mi aunque no sea lo que el mundo considera estético, pero que me compone, es real y me hace especial. No ha sido sencillo reconciliarme con esto, pero ahí vamos, un día a la vez.
Amarse no es sencillo, pero si otro puede amarte, creer en ti y en todo lo que puedes lograr, ¿por qué nos cuesta tanto a nosotros hacerlos con nosotros mismos? Estas últimas semanas que las cosas no han estado exactamente bien a más de uno le he dicho: “deseo tenerme la fe que tú tienes en mí” y así es como me he dado fuerzas, intentando verme con los ojos de amor de los que me quieren y apoyan.

This is a very current topic, where everyone talks about self-love and how to cultivate it, you can find millions of tips to apply and strengthen it, but no one tells you about the internal work you must do to apply it, nor that it is something that you must apply every day to strengthen it. I am not saying this to discourage you, but I am saying it so that you don't feel bad if you feel that you still don't apply self-love in your life.
The truth is that many times you will feel that it is insufficient, but just as you started crawling and then took your first steps, so is the process of loving yourself more. It is a process of small steps to learn to love every part of you. Don't romanticize it, you must not only love the luminous parts of you, you must also learn to recognize your dark sides and it is up to you to recognize them. Zero simple, but realistic.
In my case, my self-love is an issue. It has led me to take many small steps. The main thing I have had to learn is to set a limit for myself when it comes to work. Understanding that it's okay to rest and take care of my physical and mental body has been complex. For a long time I have lived pushing myself to the limit of exhaustion and that, at this stage of the game, has been taking its toll on me. High cortisol, stress, anxiety, back pain, dysregulated hormones, among other things are what I've had to deal with because of the lack of care I've taken. But by being aware of the situation I have been able to apply little things like eating better, sleeping more, taking time to distract myself and doing things that help me feel better.
Another thing I have had to do is to set boundaries in my personal relationships. Be it family, friends, acquaintances, I have set clear boundaries. That has meant that my social circle has shrunk a bit-quite a bit, but it has been necessary. It's not easy when it comes to family, but the hard way I've learned how exhausting it is to insist on reinforcing bonds that the other person doesn't take into account. It hurts a lot, but it hurts more to be there giving when the other person is not willing to receive or appreciate your gestures. This applies to all relationships.
Right now, I am working on looking better. And when I say looking better, I mean learning to love my body as it is, every scar, every kilo, pimple, blemish, wrinkle from laughing and crying, loving every bit of me even if it's not what the world considers aesthetic, but what makes me up, is real and makes me special. It has not been easy to reconcile myself with this, but here we go, one day at a time.
Loving yourself is not simple, but if another can love you, believe in you and all that you can achieve, why is it so hard for us to do it with ourselves? These last few weeks when things have not been exactly right I have said to more than one person: “I wish I had the faith you have in me” and that is how I have given myself strength, trying to see myself through the loving eyes of those who love and support me.
