Querido lector, seguramente, en algún momento has escuchado brevemente la historia de los dos lobos que metafóricamente todos llevamos dentro. El lobo malo y el lobo bueno. ¿Cuál será el ganador por nuestra mente, nuestras emociones o nuestra conducta?
El relato nos dice: El que alimentemos más.
Hoy, hablando de la pre-frontalidad, (o la intención de alimentar esa parte del cerebro que se encarga de la regulación de nuestras emociones, de la satisfacción y del aprendizaje) me gustaría agregar a ese relato que en realidad hay 3 lobos. Y 2 de ellos trabajan juntos.
El placer y el dolor trabajan juntos, estimado lector, se alimentan constantemente el uno al otro. Después de todo, ¿No son esas vidas descontroladas que algún caso hemos conocido resumidas en placer y dolor?
Uno podría creer equivocadamente, que las personas que más dinero, oportunidades y atractivo tienen, deberían ser forzosamente las más satisfechas y felices. Sin embargo la realidad nos golpea con el mismo hecho una y otra vez; Las personas que más tienen, no son por eso las más buenas. En muchos casos recurren al suicidio y para los que tenemos proyectos pendientes que sentimos, son la clave de nuestra felicidad, nos invade esa sensación de incredulidad.
¿Cómo descubrir esto por nosotros mismos?
Considera que mientras más has deseado algo, más te frustra no tenerlo. Encima, cuando lo tienes, nunca se sacia, sino que siempre quieres más y se genera una ansiedad emocional que te atormenta hasta tenerlo en tus manos, solo para volver a desearlo de nuevo después y encima, deja de sentirse tan bien como la primera vez que lo probaste. Dicho así, suena a una situación para perder completamente la cabeza y lo es.
Estos lobos, alimentados indiscriminadamente luego piden más y más placeres, no en cantidad, sino en fuerza, volviéndonos cada vez más caprichosos y desconectados con la realidad. Y... ¿Qué tipo de personas tienden a juntarse con aquellos que buscan emoción y placer? Pues del mismo tipo, porque esperan poder alimentar a sus lobos con algo espectacular.
Ese par de lobos obesos ahora son completamente insensibles al placer tan sutil de mirar un atardecer. De escuchar el oleaje del mar sobre las rocas. Al árbol, que apresuradamente dejamos atrás en nuestra necesidad de encontrar la siguiente mejor cosa.
¿Cuál es el tercer lobo?
La prefrontalidad, la concentración, la atención.
Las personas parecen perder el control conforme más placer obtienen. Se debe a que este lobo está casi inoperante. Conforme las personas dejan de prestar atención, menos recuerdan salvo los pequeños instantes que tuvieron lo que querían.
¿Quieres saber la receta de un día absolutamente vacío y rutinario?
El día del que no recuerdas nada, porque fue exactamente igual al anterior. Cuando nos ponemos en automático, el lóbulo pre frontal se desactiva porque estás aplicando lo que te sabes de memoria. Desde el noble granjero hasta el inteligente fabricante de cohetes espaciales.
Como consecuencia... parece que necesitamos una nueva vida. Hacer algo nuevo. Entonces la sensación de enceder nuestro lóbulo prefrontal brevemente al viajar a algún sitio nuevo, la plenitud de esa novedad llenándonos, nos hace creer que en realidad deberíamos cambiar de vida.
Te diré la verdad. Yo crucé el atlántico desde Venezuela a Europa. Durante 3 meses pude sentir que mi cerebro operaba con una sensación de frescura, facilidad y pasión que me sorprendió. ¿Qué empezó a pasar después de eso? Pues muy simple, ya mi cerebro se había adaptado a un nuevo lugar y lo había asimilado. Cuando llegué, hasta ir al baño era una experiencia. Pero pasado ese tiempo ahora podía entrar en automático.
Siendo así, la solución es evidente: Tenemos que reforzar nuestro lóbulo pre-frontal al prestar atención cada vez que podamos. Lo que llaman mindfulness, pero no solo 20 minutos al día, junto a un lago, en los momentos donde nadie moleste. Sino todo el tiempo que no necesites estar persiguiendo un objetivo o incluso al mismo tiempo.
Este tercer lobo al hacerse más fuerte, está diseñado por la naturaleza para regular a los demás y es esencial para que tú y yo, en una era donde el placer y el miedo son herramientas para tener dinero, podamos volver al estado más natural posible, donde sentir tus propios pasos te dé la sensación de plenitud y felicidad.
Conclusión
Nunca olvides: No estarás satisfecho por lograr lo que quieres.
Nadie es arrebatado al cielo por llegar a cierta suma de dinero. Esa sensación de logro se irá para que puedas seguir logrando otras cosas. Si quieres mantener una sensación de plenitud constante, necesitas otra cosa y por eso, estimado lector, te ofrezco la idea del tercer lobo. La alternativa pre-frontal.
Debo recordarte que ni el placer ni el miedo son cosas malos en su justa medida. Pero fuera de control harán de tu vida un infierno. Eso está garantizado. Si ya lo es, y el lobo que necesitas es solo un cachorro, no te preocupes. Nunca lo has perdido del todo y puedes comenzar hoy, cada día, alimentarlo con lo poco que puedas.
Cuando se haga grande, solo por haberlo intentado cada día, notarás la diferencia en todas las áreas de tu vida.

Dear reader, surely, at some point you have briefly heard the story of the two wolves that we all metaphorically carry inside. The bad wolf and the good wolf. Which will be the winner who controls of our mind, our emotions or our behavior?
The story tells us: The one we feed the most.
Today, speaking of pre-frontality, (or the intention to feed that part of the brain that is in charge of regulating our emotions, satisfaction and learning) I would like to add to that story that there are actually 3 wolves. And 2 of them work together.
Pleasure and pain work together, dear reader, they constantly feed each other. After all, aren't those uncontrolled lives that we have known in some cases summed up in pleasure and pain?
One could mistakenly believe that the people who have the most money, opportunities and attractiveness, should necessarily be the most satisfied and happy. However, reality hits us with the same fact over and over again; the people who have the most, are not therefore the best. In many cases they resort to suicide and those of us who have pending projects that we feel are the key to our happiness, we are overcome by a feeling of disbelief.
How to discover this for ourselves?
Consider that the more you have wanted something, the more frustrated you are not to have it. On top of that, when you have it, it is never satisfied, but you always want more and an emotional anxiety is generated that torments you until you have it in your hands, only to want it again afterwards and on top of that, it stops feeling as good as the first time you tried it. That sounds like a situation to completely lose your mind and it is.
These wolves, fed indiscriminately then demand more and more pleasures, not in quantity, but in strength, making us more and more capricious and disconnected from reality. And... what kind of people tend to hang out with those who seek excitement and pleasure? Well, the same kind, because they expect to be able to feed their wolves something spectacular.
That pair of obese wolves are now completely insensitive to the subtle pleasure of watching a sunset. Of listening to the waves of the sea on the rocks. Of the tree, which we hastily leave behind in our need to find the next best thing.
And... what is the third wolf?
Prefrontality, concentration, attention.
People seem to lose control the more pleasure they get. It's because this wolf is almost inoperative. As people stop paying attention, they remember less except for the small moments when they had what they wanted.
Do you want to know the recipe for an absolutely empty and routine day?
The day you don't remember anything about, because it was exactly the same as the previous one. When we go into automatic mode, the prefrontal lobe is deactivated because you are applying what you know by heart. From the noble farmer to the intelligent space rocket manufacturer.
As a consequence... it seems that we need a new life. To do something new. Then the sensation of turning on our prefrontal lobe briefly when traveling somewhere new, the fullness of that novelty filling us up, makes us believe that we should really change our life.
I'll tell you the truth. I crossed the Atlantic from Venezuela to Europe. For 3 months I could feel my brain operating with a sense of freshness, ease and passion that surprised me. What started to happen after that? Well, very simple, my brain had already adapted to a new place and had assimilated it. When I arrived, even going to the bathroom was an experience. But after that time I could now go into automatic mode.
That being the case, the solution is obvious: We have to strengthen our pre-frontal lobe by paying attention whenever we can. What they call mindfulness, but not just 20 minutes a day, next to a lake, in moments where no one is bothering us. But all the time when you don't need to be pursuing a goal or even at the same time.
This third wolf, by getting stronger, is designed by nature to regulate others and is essential so that you and I, in an era where pleasure and fear are tools for having money, can return to the most natural state possible, where feeling your own steps gives you the feeling of fulfillment.
Conclusion
Never forget: You will not be satisfied by achieving what you want.
No one is snatched up to heaven by reaching a certain amount of money. That feeling of accomplishment will go away so you can continue achieving other things. If you want to maintain a constant feeling of fulfillment, you need something else and that is why, dear reader, I offer you the idea of the third wolf. The pre-frontal alternative.
I must remind you that neither pleasure nor fear are bad things in their proper measure. But out of control they will make your life a hell. That is guaranteed. If it is already a hell, and the wolf you need is only a puppy, don't worry. You have never lost him completely and you can start today, every day, feeding him with the little you can.
When he grows up, just by having tried every day, you will notice the difference in all areas of your life.
