Lao Tse
Y aquí estamos, estimado lector. En una discusión muy importante para poder mejorar nuestras vidas. Pero aún te pido un poco más de tu paciencia porque no es nada fácil de explicar.
Muy seguramente ya has leído otras posibilidades. Libros sagrados, libros de autoayuda, filosofias. Pero por algún motivo leer tanto no ha hecho nada por ti e incluso en algunos casos te ha hecho peor.
El secreto está en que muchas veces nos encontramos con textos sobre lo que no deberíamos hacer, pero nunca nos dicen como ser el tipo de persona que no necesita leerlas en primer lugar. Pienso que esto se debe a que estos filosofos o profetas tenían por alguna razón u otra, mentes particularmente sanas. Mentes que veían con incredulidad a los demás haciendo cosas que no tenían ningún sentido para ellas. Encima, cuando hablaban, nadie los entendía, muy evidente por lo que termina ocurriendo con los movimientos que se suelen generar con el bien en mente.
Pues he descubierto que se trata de un estado mental en que estas personas se encontraban por tener un lóbulo pre frontal fuerte.
Veamos algunos casos.
Jesús
Jesús, por ejemplo, era ante todo un pacifista. Era capaz de perdonar pecados y de aliviar los hombros pesados de culpa de las personas a quienes conocía. Sin embargo, también, hasta donde sabemos, dijo que incluso si pecabamos en nuestra mente se nos tenía en cuenta. Desde luego, si lo interpretamos de la forma en que hoy se hace, nos moriríamos de culpa sabiendo que estamos indefensos a la oscuridad de nuestras propias mentes y condenados a decepcionar a Dios todos los días.
Sin embargo, nos hace ruído que siendo tan amoroso y pacífico, pareciera aún así añadir más peso a nuestras espaldas. Se debe a que cuidar nuestras mentes es una labor esencial para tener una mente fuerte. Pero, ¿Lo hacemos a través del amor y la comprensión de Jesús?
Desde luego que lo hacemos a través del autodesprecio y la culpa, con nuestras Amigdalas. O lo hacemos con nuestros egos heridos, buscando el placer de sentirnos mejor que los demás. Solamente una concentración profunda es capaz de activar esta área de nuestra mente que, como hemos estudiado, es por sí sola, sin que pensemos siquiera, capaz de discernir de lo que nos conviene o no y favorecer aquellas áreas que nos hacen mejores. Cuenta la historia que Jesús oraba solo y que ayunó durante 40 días y noches. Necesitas un lóbulo prefrontal fuerte para eso. Y ni hablar de sacrificarte en pos de un propósito.
Lao Tse y los estoicos
Mi escritor favorito, a quien también siento con paralelo a los estoicos porque eran también grandes observadores. Si los has leído, también te habrás dado cuenta que cuentan muchas de sus conclusiones pero, muchas veces no dicen de qué forma llegar a ellas. En otras palabras, siempre terminas siendo un estudiante del taoismo o de los estoicos porque uno tiende a aferrarse a sus máximas, pero no a entrar en el estado mental que lleva a producirlas por ti mismo hasta el punto en que tienen todo sentido.
En el Tao te king, Lao Tse recomienda restringir los deseos. Algo que antes me sonaba del todo innecesario. ¿Cuales deseos? ¿Es que el placer está prohibido, como en el oscurantismo? Ahora me doy cuenta que alimentar excesivamente nuestro Núcleo cerebral de placer, no hace más que desbocarnos a buscar más, de modo que no hay que ser muy indolentes con nuestros deseos. Solo basta observar las vidas de las personas más desbocadas para notar como al final terminan por hacerle daño a alguien o a muchos, porque ya no les satisface nada más que lo extremo, que casi siempre tiende a herir a alguien más porque está prohibido.
Sabiamente decía, "Mientras más cosas ambicionamos, más pobres nos hacemos. Es mejor buscar el conocimiento interno".
Estamos ante pre frontalidad pura y hasta ahora daba la impresión que habría que nacer sabio para llegar a tan valiosas conclusiones. Probablemente así lo era, porque claramente tenían cerebros más resistentes a la ansiedad y al placer, que les hacían governantes excelsos, como lo fue Marco Aurelio.
Como se beneficiarían los gobiernos del mundo si, midiendo la actividad cerebral en el lóbulo pre frontal se supiera si están preparados para realmente velar por el bien común.
Ahora, la pregunta del millón, ¿Cómo encarnar la sabiduría, o más bien, el área más sabia de nuestro cerebro? ¿Como dejar de forzarnos a la bondad, para finalmente ser bondad?
Jiddu Krishnamurti
En esto nos ayuda otro sabio de similares magnitudes, Jiddu Krishnamurti. Este hombre, tuvo un pasado del que uno no se esperaría nada. Adoptado desde pequeño por la secta teosófica, se le dijo desde siempre que era la encarnación de un maestro destinado a guiar a la humanidad. Imaginate ser venerado, entrenado y tu cerebro lavado todos los días con estas ideas. Con personas jurándote lealtad y ayuda incondicional hasta el final. Tendrías toda tu vida resuelta. Y sin embargo un día dijo que no era ningún mesias y disolvió el movimiento que practicamente lo llamaba un semi dios.
Con los fondos que le quedaron, se dedicó a vivir una vida sencilla, escribiendo libros. Después reaparecería con el firme propósito de ayudar a liberar la mente humana con una perspectiva desafiante:"Pensar está sobrevalorado"
Desgraciadamente, se me acaba el espacio para describir apropiadamente su método en este post a pesar de que no es mi intención dejarte con la duda de nuevo. 900 palabras de este tema ya son suficiente preparación para lo que necesito decirte, paciente lector. ¡Pero no te preocupes! Esto no se acaba aquí, el lunes, sin falta trataré de explicarte en toda mi capacidad la manera de activar nuestras mentes, de modo que comience a repararse por sí sola.

The secret is that many times we come across texts about what we should not do, but they never tell us how to be the kind of person who does not need to read them in the first place. I think this is because these philosophers or prophets had, for some reason or another, particularly healthy minds. Minds that looked with disbelief at others doing things that made no sense to them. On top of that, when they spoke, no one understood them, very evident from what ends up happening with the movements that are usually generated with the good in mind.
Well, I have discovered that it is a mental state that these people were in because they had a strong prefrontal lobe.
Let's look at some cases.
Jesus
Jesus, for example, was first and foremost a pacifist. He was able to forgive sins and relieve the heavy shoulders of guilt of the people he met. However, he also, as far as we know, said that even if we sinned in our minds, we were accounted for. Of course, if we interpret it the way today the church do, we would die of guilt knowing that we are helpless to the darkness of our own minds and doomed to disappoint God every day.
However, it makes us feel that being so loving and peaceful, it still seems to add more weight to our shoulders. This is because taking care of our minds is an essential task to have a strong mind. But do we do it through the love and understanding of Jesus?
Of course we do it through self-hatred and guilt, with our Amygdalae. Or we do it with our wounded egos, seeking the pleasure of feeling better than others. Only deep concentration is able to activate this area of our mind that, as we have studied, is on its own, without us even thinking, capable of discerning what is good for us or not and favoring those areas that make us better. The story goes that Jesus prayed alone and fasted for 40 days and nights. You need a strong prefrontal lobe for that. Let alone sacrificing yourself for the sake of a goal.
Lao Tse and the Stoics
My favorite writer, who I also feel is parallel to the Stoics because they were also great observers. If you have read them, you will have also realized that they tell many of their conclusions but, many times, they do not say how to get to them. In other words, you always end up being a student of Taoism or the Stoics because one tends to cling to their maxims, but not to enter into the mental state that leads to producing them for yourself to the point where they make perfect sense.
In the Tao Te Ching, Lao Tse recommends restricting desires. Something that before seemed completely unnecessary to me. What desires? Is pleasure forbidden, as in obscurantism? Now I realize that excessively feeding our Pleasure Brain Nucleus only makes us go wild looking for more, so we must not be too lazy with our desires. It is enough to observe the lives of the most unbridled people to notice how in the end they hurt someone or many people, because they are no longer satisfied with anything other than the extreme, which almost always tends to hurt someone else because it is forbidden.
He wisely said, "The more things we covet, the poorer we become. It is better to seek inner knowledge."
We are standing before pure prefrontality, and until now it seemed that one would have to be born wise to reach such valuable conclusions. Probably so, because they clearly had brains more resistant to anxiety and pleasure, which made them excellent rulers, as Marcus Aurelius was.
How would the governments of the world benefit if, by measuring brain activity in the prefrontal lobe, it was known if our politics are prepared to really look after the common good.
Now, the million dollar question: How do we embody wisdom, or rather, the wisest area of our brain? How do we stop forcing ourselves to be kind, in order to finally be kindness itself?
Jiddu Krishnamurti
Another wise man of similar magnitude helps us here, Jiddu Krishnamurti. This man had a past from which one would not expect anything. Adopted as a child by the theosophical sect, he was always told that he was the incarnation of a teacher destined to guide humanity. Imagine being venerated, trained and brainwashed every day with these ideas. With people swearing loyalty and unconditional help to you until the end. You would have your whole life sorted out. And yet one day he said he was no messiah and dissolved the movement that practically called him a demigod.
With the funds he had left, he dedicated himself to living a simple life, writing books. He would later reappear with the firm purpose of helping to free the human mind with a challenging perspective: "Thinking is overrated."
