The very regal-looking butterfly is a monarch. They can be found across southern Canada and are known to travel almost 5000 kilometers during a long two-way migration. They travel to California and Mexico in the winter months before coming back north for the summertime. Canada has been making efforts to help this endangered species by restoring feeding, breeding, and stopover habitats across the country, including planting milkweed and other native wildflowers while collecting the local seeds for future seeding.
