El Río Orinoco, posee más de 16 afluentes y se divide en El Alto Orinoco, con 242 kilómetros, iniciando en el Estado Amazonas, El llamado Medio Orionoco, con una extensión de 750 kilómetros, que va desde San Fernando de Atabapo en Amazonas hasta el Río Meta, en territorio fronterizo con Colombia y el Bajo Orinoco, que va desde los rápidos de Atures hasta la ciudad de Barrancas del Orinoco.
