It was one of the most famous and visited animals of the zoo, even if you didn’t enter the place you could see it from outside, because it was in an area near the street.
Her name was Lucky, she was an Asian elephant and she arrived in Maracay (Venezuela) in 1953. She came from a Belgian circus, and was between 3 and 10 years old, there is no specific information about her age.
I met Lucky when I was a teenager and visited the park, I even have pictures of her that I will share another time.
She lived at the zoo for 59 years, so thousands of people have her among their memories. When she died, on October 3, 2012, I remember it was all over the media.
These images I share with you today are of a piece of artwork that was made in her memory. It is located in one of the paths of the zoo, and what stands out the most, apart from the fact that it is life-size, is that it is made of tires. Next to it there is a jeep, I guess recreating the scene of a safari.
The statue is painted in a coppery-golden color, and when you detail it you can see what a great job it must have been to assemble the figure of the beautiful animal with this material. I didn’t find any information about the author of this original work, what do you think of this art?
Fue uno de los animales más famosos y visitados del zoológico, incluso si no entrabas al lugar podías verlo desde afuera, porque estaba en una zona cercana a la calle.
Se llamaba Lucky, era una elefanta asiática y llegó a Maracay (Venezuela) en 1953. Venía de un circo belga, y tenía entre 3 y 10 años, no hay datos concretos sobre su edad.
Yo conocí a Lucky cuando era adolescente y visité el parque, incluso tengo fotos de ella que compartiré en otra ocasión.
Vivió en el zoológico durante 59 años, así que miles de personas la tienen entre sus memorias. Cuando murió, el 3 de octubre de 2012, recuerdo que fue noticia en todos los medios de comunicación.
Estas imágenes que les comparto hoy son de una obra de arte que se hizo en su memoria. Se encuentra en una de las caminerías del zoológico, y lo que más destaca, aparte de que es de tamaño real, es que está hecha con cauchos (neumáticos). A su lado hay un jeep, supongo que recreando la escena de un safari.
La estatua está pintada de un color dorado cobrizo, y cuando la detallas te das cuenta del gran trabajo que debió ser montar la figura del bello animal con este material, ¿qué les parece este arte?
