Once upon a time there was a huge kingdom; it’s castle had tall towers, reaching all the way to the sky. However, the kingdom was not like the others in the world. Ooh , no. It was a false kingdom, so was its name - Lying. No one in the entire kingdom, not even the king and queen, ever told the truth.
The king and queen had an only daughter. She was the most beautiful girl in the world. She had long, golden hair which shone like the sun and eyes as blue as the deepest sea that surrounded the kingdom. The princess grew up and became more and more beautiful. Myths spread all over the land about her beauty.
“Here Jee! Here Jee! Herald’s called throughout the land. “The time has come for the false kingdom’s king to hand over his crown to his successor!”
As the heralds said, the time had come for the king to name a successor.
“Who will you name as king?” his beautiful daughter asked.
“To name a king, I will have to give your hand in marriage,” the king said. He went on to say more, but the princess lipped to her feet and hugged him so tightly.
“I’m getting married! I hope he is a handsome dashing, brave prince!” The princess said as she danced out of the throne room with her ladies giggling after her.
The queen looked at the king and asked, “so, you will give her up too?”
“Never!” The king roared, slapping his fists on the armrests of his large golden throne. “I will never give up my daughter to anyone!”
Nobles, princes, and magical creatures who wanted the hand of the princess came from far and wide. All had heard the proclamation and wanted to rule a kingdom beside the most beautiful princess in the land.
“I’m not ready, I can’t give my daughter away just like that,” The king told his advisors, turning away from the many solicitors.
“What will you do then? If you turn them away without a reason, you could put our kingdom in danger,” The advisors said.
The king frowned, then smiled. “Leave it to me.”
The king did what he did best, he lied to each and every one of the princes.
“I’m sorry prince Ali, how terrible to have made such a long journey from Sand lands, but my daughter is seriously ill,” the king said to the prince of Sand lands. “Here are gifts for you to take back to your kingdom as a consolation for your troubles.”
To the Prince of Cloud Valley, the king said, “Here is my daughter, but I’m afraid an evil witch has cursed her.”
The prince gasped, for the king was leading a donkey from the stables towards him!
The king’s lies went so far that he dared to tell a rich nobleman that the princess had died the day before he came.
All the nobles and princes returned dejected to their native land, and the princess remain alone. One day, as the princess went out with her maids for her usual walk around the town, an old woman appeared in front of her.
The woman was very ugly and wrinkled from old age. She walked shakily. The cane she leaned on could barely hold her.
The old woman approached the princess, limping and leaning heavily on her cane. Her long torn garment trailed behind her in the dust. Seeing the rich clothes and jewels which the princess and the maids wore the old woman said, “Dear miss, do you have some gold coins to give me. I haven't eaten anything in days.”
The ugliness of the old woman and her poor, dirty clothes startled the princess so much that she pushed the old woman to the ground.
The old woman fell into a puddle with a cry.
“Thief! “shouted the princess.
The guards immediately ran over to see what was going on.
“She tried to steal my necklace!” The princess said, pointing down at the old woman.
The guards, of course, believed the words of the princess. They immediately seized the poor old woman and threw her into the dungeon. What no one knew, however, was that the old woman was a very powerful sorceress. With her final strength, she cursed the princess and the entire kingdom.
“Let every lie that is spoken become the truth until he comes who does not know the truth from a lie.”
