We had a long time plan but it materialized only the day before. Rami and I entered the jungle in his jeep early in the morning.
The moment we entered the forest, a kind of dull darkness surrounded us. The sky was almost completely obscured by a canopy of leaves high above us. At ground level, thick vegetation grew in every direction. The air was moist and had a strange smell to it.
We could hear the sounds of insects, birds, and animals all around us. Although we could not see them, except for a few birds, we knew they were there. The sounds echoed through everything, making the forest look strange and mysterious as well.
Little did I know Rami could find a way through the bushes and trees. He said that he was just following the path used by the local tribal people. As far as I was concerned, I couldn’t see a way out. I realized how easily an inexperienced person can get lost and perish in the jungle, so I was very careful about where I moved.
Still, I followed Rami as we were walking slowly, or you could say we were almost strolling. The most uncomfortable thing about living in the woods was that these little bloody dangerous mosquitoes and insects never left us alone. Despite having thick shoes and clothes on, they still bit us.
A nice but creepy experience that will remain in my memory for a long time.
