Con el pasar de los meses Leticia se concentró en su bebé y poco a poco fue superando la partida de aquel mal hombre que la dejó sola en su estado. Así que heredera de los talentos de su madre para la costura, se dedicó a la creación de primorosos trajes para recibir a su bebé.
El embarazo transcurría con total normalidad, hasta que faltando dos meses para el nacimiento del bebé, un dolor punzante en el bajo vientre llenó de temor a las dos mujeres y luego de las alarmantes observaciones del doctor del pequeño pueblo, Santina tomó la decisión de viajar a la capital.
Por suerte nunca vendieron su antiguo apartamento, así que por lo menos tenían un lugar al cual llegar. En ése momento Santina agradeció el buen tino de su esposo al negarse a desprenderse de él.
En dos pequeñas maletas colocaron sólo lo esencial.
"No es necesario llevar tantas cosas mamá. Cuando el bebé cumpla un mes podremos volver", dijo Leticia a su madre, sin imaginar que le tomarían dieciséis largos años regresar a su hogar.
Luego de una breve despedida, partieron con destino a la capital, donde fueron recibidas por la hermana de Santina quien hasta ése día se había encargado del cuidado del apartamento.

Aunado a eso puede presentar malformaciones en los manos y pies. Y en el caso de su hija lamentablemente es así".
Leticia asió con fuerza la mano que su madre le extendió. Las lágrimas inundaban sus ojos y corrían como pequeños riachuelos por sus mejillas mientras escuchaba en silencio cada palabra que pronunciaba la doctora.
"En algunos casos es probable que éste síndrome traiga consigo algún tipo de retardo mental. Lo cual se determinará después del parto y a medida que la niña vaya creciendo" finalizó la doctora.
Incapaz de controlarse Leticia rompió en llanto. Su cuerpo entero temblaba y por su mente se cruzaban todo tipo de pensamientos. "¿Sería todo ésto culpa suya, la estaría castigando Dios por haber engendrado un hijo fuera del matrimonio, qué había hecho mal?".

La doctora intentaba tranquilizarla, pero cómo se puede calmar una madre que recibe noticias tan devastadoras.
"Lamentablemente dado el tiempo de gestación no podemos interrumpir el embarazo". Finalizó diciendo.

Fué así como en medio de la madrugada rodeados de tanta oscuridad, Miguel a través de su persiana logró divisar la jaula donde por seguridad trasladaban a Amalia.
