I looked directly into my eyes through the rearview mirror hoping to desist from the absurd idea that had planted itself in my head, it used to be a thought that only hovered there when something unpleasant happened, but this time it was different. The feeling that already felt so familiar never left, it settled in my mind finally, leaving aside everything else, becoming the main thing turning me into an obsessive. I kept thinking about it, however, my positive personality got in the way and I couldn't decide how I was going to do it, I didn't know the best way to leave without experiencing any pain or at least one that wasn't unbearable. I wandered down the road aimlessly trying to suppress my thoughts that I felt were mercilessly drilling my brain. Although I was in a rather depressing situation, I was not sad nor did I feel any remorse, I just didn't feel like moving forward or staying in the same place, much less did I want to go back, I wanted to stop feeling the pain of others as well as my own.

Me miré directamente a los ojos a través del espejo retrovisor esperando desistir de la idea absurda que se había plantado en mi cabeza, solía ser un pensamiento que solo rondaba por allí cuando ocurría algo desagradable, pero esta vez fue diferente. El sentimiento que ya sentía tan familiar nunca se fue, se instaló en mi mente finalmente, dejando a un lado todo lo demás, volviéndose lo principal volviéndome un obsesivo. No dejaba de pensar al respecto, sin embargo, mi personalidad positiva se interponía y no terminada de decidir cómo iba a hacerlo, no sabía cuál era la mejor manera de irse sin experimentar ningún dolor o por lo menos uno que no fuera insoportable. Vague por la carretera sin rumbo alguno intentando suprimir mis pensamientos que sentía que taladraban mi cerebro sin compasión alguna. Aunque estaba en una situación bastante deprimente no está triste ni sentía ningún remordimiento, tan solo me sentía sin ganas de avanzar ni de permanecer en el mismo lugar y mucho menos quería retroceder, quería dejar de sentir tanto el dolor ajeno como el propio.

I stopped at a gas station for a drink and no, it wasn't an alcoholic drink, I couldn't even do that because I really hated the smell, the taste and how alcohol made me feel, but I can't deny that I would have liked to "drown my sorrows" as most people say at that moment, to forget who I was for a while at least, however that was not going to happen, it was just another of the most common and normal experiences that I was going to miss, although from my point of view it was not something I was looking forward to do so looking at it that way I did not feel that I was missing out on much. The truth is that although by then many things were meaningless and my desire to move forward was almost nil, there was only one thing I could not get out of my mind, death had settled to stay and had been the only guest for quite some time after evicting the old desire to live.

Me detuve en una gasolinera por una bebida y no, no era una bebida alcohólica es que ni eso podía hacer yo porque en serio detestaba el olor, el sabor y como me hacía sentir el alcohol, pero no puedo negar que si me hubiera gustado en ese momento "ahogar mis penas" como dice la mayoría, volverme nada para olvidar quien era por un rato por lo menos, sin embargo eso no iba a pasar, era simplemente otra de las experiencias más comunes y normales que me iba a perder, aunque desde mi punto de vista no era algo que yo ansiara hacer así que viéndolo de esa manera yo no sentía que me estaba perdiendo de mucho. La verdad es que aunque para ese entonces muchas cosas carecían de sentido y mis ganas por avanzar eran casi nulas, solo había una cosa que no podía apartar de mi mente, la muerte se había instalado para quedarse y llevaba bastante tiempo siendo el único huésped después de desalojar a las viejas ganas de vivir.

I remember that while I was driving in a certain way I was waiting to meet someone, for something important or something insignificant to happen, anything to avoid doing what I was about to do, because no matter what others say nobody really wants to die, what they do want is to stop feeling the way they feel, or simply escape from reality and most conclude that ceasing to exist is the "easier" way when in reality we are only being seduced by an idea that is difficult to ignore because of the circumstances, and if you see it that way it is something very ironic it is something that in those moments we find more than attractive, it is a false light at the end of the tunnel a quick way to stop feeling, it is basically a deception and with it we desperately seek to escape from that painful and deplorable situation in which we find ourselves.

Recuerdo que mientras conducía en cierta forma esperaba encontrarme con alguien, que ocurriera algo importante o algo insignificante cualquier cosa para evitar hacer lo que estaba a punto de hacer, porque sin importar lo que digan los demás nadie se quiere morir realmente, lo que sí se quiere es dejar de sentir como se sienten, o simplemente escapar de la realidad y la mayoría concluyen que dejar de existir es la vía "más fácil" cuando en realidad sólo estamos siendo seducidos por una idea que es difícil de ignorar por las circunstancias, y si lo ves así es algo muy irónico es algo que en esos momentos encontramos más que atractivo, es una falsa luz al final del túnel una manera rápida de dejar de sentir, es básicamente un engaño y con el buscamos desesperadamente escapar de esa situación tan penosa y deplorable en la que nos encontramos.

Even so, I don't know why nobody talks about how awful it is to be in that situation, how low one falls as to even consider crossing that line, because we are not suicidal beings but circumstances can get to disappear those lines and that is where we fall into an infinite loop from which we want to be saved but without asking for help and therein lies the problem, everyone has their own battle and unfortunately it is difficult for them to notice those around them, much less guess that someone is so bad as to do such a thing. Sometimes when I looked in the mirror I did not recognize my reflection, I found it alien to me mainly because I did not identify that dead look you get when you are in the deepest hole, and there are times where I only felt good (although I know it is absurd) at the bottom of the darkest hole, I would take my bed and lie there feeling bad but at the same time full, as if I liked not being well and those obvious things sometimes I just didn't see them the way I should it created a kind of distortion in reality, and I would stay in the deep dark for a long time.

Aún así, no sé porque nadie habla de lo espantoso que es estar en esa situación, lo bajo que se cae como para siquiera considerar cruzar esa línea, porque no somos seres suicidas pero las circunstancias pueden llegar a desaparecer esas líneas y es allí donde caemos en un bucle infinito del que queremos ser salvados pero sin pedir ayuda y allí radica el problema, cada quien tiene su propia batalla y lastimosamente es difícil que noten a los que están a su alrededor, mucho menos adivinar que alguien está tan mal como para hacer tal cosa. A veces cuando me miraba en el espejo no reconocía a mi reflejo, lo encontraba ajeno a mí principalmente porque no identificaba esa mirada muerta que se tiene cuando se está en lo más profundo del agujero, y hay veces donde solo me sentía bien (aunque sé que es absurdo) en el fondo del agujero más oscuro, llevaba mi cama y me recostaba allí sintiéndome mal pero a la vez pleno, como si me gustará el no estar bien y esas cosas tan obvias a veces simplemente no las veía como debía se creaba una especie de distorsión en la realidad, y me quedaba en la profunda oscuridad por mucho tiempo.

There was no one I cared enough to give up what I was about to do, I never thought that my leaving would have a big impact on someone's life, if so perhaps having that person in mind could be a compelling reason that would possibly have helped me to see the idea that seemed so appealing as a cowardly and selfish act. Unfortunately in my mind there was no one like that, those who really mattered had already left before me, they had already abandoned me, they simply left me behind but it was not their choice, as it was for me in those moments. I doubt very much that those people so special to me felt the need to disappear without a trace, many expect to be remembered I just wanted to stop feeling those feelings so vividly, stop being so empathetic and not feel the pain of others anymore, I wanted to do something selfish for the first time but I think my choice could not be more wrong, now that I think about it in those moments I was nothing more than a silly little boy.

No había nadie que me importara tanto como para desistir de lo que estaba por hacer, nunca pensé que mi partida tuviera un gran impacto en la vida de alguien, de ser así quizás tener esa persona en la mente podría ser un motivo de peso que posiblemente me habría ayudado a ver la idea que parecía tan atractiva como un acto cobarde y egoísta. Lamentablemente en mi mente no había nadie así, los que realmente importaban ya se habían marchado primero que yo, ya me habían abandonado, simplemente me dejaron atrás pero no fue su elección, como lo era para mí en esos momentos. Dudo mucho que esas personas tan especiales para mí sintieran la necesidad de desaparecer sin dejar rastro, muchos esperan ser recordados yo solo quería dejar de sentir esos sentimientos de forma tan vívida, dejar de ser tan empático y no sentir más el dolor ajeno, quería hacer algo egoísta por primera vez pero creo que mi elección no podría estar más errada, ahora que lo pienso en esos momentos no fui más que un chiquillo tonto.

In between so many things on my mind I went back to the car and kept driving, waiting with great anxiety to run into some acquaintance or some event that I could not ignore to momentarily displace the idea that was still there waiting for my patient and self-confident with that unpleasant mocking grimace that sometimes peeked out full of confidence.

Entre tantas cosas en la mente volví al auto y seguí conduciendo, esperaba con muchas ansias el toparme con algún conocido o algún suceso que no pudiera ignorar para desplazar momentáneamente la idea que seguía allí esperando por mi paciente y segura de sí misma con esa mueca desagradable burlona que a veces se asomaba llena de confianza.
