Eugenio was among the cornfield, collecting the ears of corn in sacks and loading them on the mules. At that time, all heavy loads were carried by these beasts bred and domesticated for service in the work of the fields. Eugenio is a simple man who works on his land with Clara, his wife, only about four hectares of farmland. The couple lives in a house located in the upper part of the mountain. The humble building is made with local resources; walls of bahareque, floor of tightly packed earth and flagstone, with a tile roof. Eugenio goes down to the cornfield almost every day, either for the harvest or to prepare and fertilize the ground, with the exception of the holy days, Easter.
One Holy Wednesday, Servando and Manuel visit the couple. These young men were their godchildren who took advantage of Easter to hunt on the mountain at the end of their godparents' property.
_ Good morning godparents, give us your blessing! Said Servando and Manuél, later, imitated in greeting.
_ Good morning boys! God bless you," said Clara.
Eugenio, who had seen the rifles and the hunting dog already guessed the boys' intentions; for his part, he said:
_ God take care of you godchildren, your visit is a joy! Come in, come in! We are going to eat arepas with panela water that your godmother prepared for the holy days.
_ Don't worry, mom has packed food for us. Servando said.
_ Ah, but come with us to have coffee and that will take away the cold.
_ Yes godfather, I want to drink a cup of coffee before we go hunting. Said Manuel.
_ Are you going hunting?! Be careful, these days the lady is going out, that's why Eugenio stopped going to the cornfield. Clara said.
_Don't worry godmother, we are not as handsome as your husband, ha ha ha! said Manuel eloquently.
_Ha ha ha! She only wants to be my godfather's girlfriend, she doesn't appreciate us in the same way. Said Servando. While Eugenio and Clara exchanged worried glances, the young people silenced their laughter and now with seriousness Manuel talked to his godparents.
_ Don't worry, we are only going hunting today, we will be back before sunset to sleep here if you want to give us lodging for tonight.
_ Of course son, this is your home. But don't forget that we will wait for you tonight and if you see her you will return immediately, don't answer her call.
_ I promise godmother, we will take care of ourselves, don't worry. Manuel affirmed. Clara and Eugenio said goodbye to the boys with a blessing and prayed for their well being. When the young people had walked a little, Eugenio commented to Clara:
_ You know that woman always comes out to me, but she has not appeared to many other men, not even these days.
Okay, I'm going to try to be quiet, but I don't know if it's possible.
That morning, at about 3:00 a.m., a dog barks. Eugenio, upon hearing it, takes a flashlight and leaves the house. He walks towards the cornfield carefully to avoid stumbling because it is still dark. Less than 5 minutes later he finds his godchildren's hunting dog. It finds him and starts jumping around him and then heads towards the cornfield. Eugenio follows the animal and in less than an hour's walk finds his godchildren. Servando is sitting on the ground leaning against a tree trunk. Manuel is standing next to him. At first glance, the young men appear to be healthy and safe, but as he gets closer he identifies a problem with Servando's attitude. He is lost in thought, staring at the horizon, as if he were asleep with his eyes open. As if he were trapped in a dream. Manuel, who was healthy, smiled and petted the dog, congratulating the animal for its cunning. Then he said to his godfather.
It happened when we were returning, on the stone slab that is before reaching your property. She appeared, I know this because Servando saw her and went crazy, he left the animals we hunted on the ground and went in search of that woman. I did not see her, I only know that there was silence and that even the frogs stopped singing. I stopped him Padrino, I did not let him go after her, but it was difficult, he wanted to go with her. At that moment Manuel began to cry, he cried without consolation and in his tears he unburdened all the terror he felt with that experience.
Calm down Manuel, the worst thing is over. I am taking your brother home, but you have to go to Eulogío's house, my cousin, tell him what happened and he will know what to do.
They did so and when Manuel arrived at the house accompanied by Mr. Eulogío, Eugenio and Servando were already there. The latter was sitting in the middle of the bed and was wearing only a pair of pants. Immediately, Mr. Eulogio went to the room and began to give him baths to remove the terrible spell with which the deceased wanted to tie Sebastian.
Manuel went to the kitchen and accepted the herbal tea that Clara served him. After taking a few sips he exclaimed:
_I still don't understand why she attacked him and I was completely ignored!. Clara replied:
_The Lady is a very old ghost who is tied to a trunk full of gold coins. She died rich and unmarried, waiting for a husband. I don't know how or why, but she decides who gets her spell. It is said that when a man accepts her as his wife, she will give him the trunk with all her riches. The thing is that no one dares because to please the Lady you have to die and the dead cannot enjoy the gold.

Estaba Eugenio entre el maizal, recogiendo las mazorcas en sacos y los subía a las mulas. En ese tiempo, toda carga pesada era llevada por estas bestias criadas y domesticadas para el servicio de las labores del campo. Eugenio es hombre sencillo que trabaja en su tierra junto a Clara, su mujer, apenas unas cuatro hectáreas de tierra. La pareja vive en una casa ubicada en la parte alta de la montaña. La humilde edificación está fabricada con los recursos de la región; paredes de bahareque, piso de tierra pisoneada y laja, con techo de teja. Eugenio baja casi todos los días al maizal, ya sea para la cosecha o para preparar y abonar la tierra, con excepción de los días santos, en la pascua.

Un miércoles santo, la pareja recibe la visita Servando y Manuel. Estos jóvenes eran sus ahijados quienes aprovechaban la pascua para cazar en la montaña, al final de la propiedad de sus padrinos.
_ ¡Buenos días padrinos, échenos la bendición!. Dijo Servando, a quien Manuél más tarde imitó en el saludo.
_¡Buenos días muchachos! Que Dios me los bendiga, dijo Clara.
Eugenio, quien habiendo visto los rifles de caza y al perro que les acompañaba ya suponía las intensiones de los muchachos; por su parte, dijo:
_ Dios me los cuide ahijados, ¡qué bueno que nos visitan! Pasen, pasen! Vamos a comer arepas con agua panela que su madrina preparó para pasar los días santos.
_ No se preocupen, nosotros venimos con comida que nos arregló mamá. Dijo Servando.
_ Ah, pero entonces vamos a tomar café y así se les quita el frío.
_ Si padrino, yo quiero tomar café antes de ir a la caza. Refirió Manuel
_ ¡¿Ustedes van a cazar?! Miren que en estos días sale la señora, por eso Eugenio dejó de ir al maizal. Dijo Clara.
_ No se preocupe madrina que nosotros no somos tan guapos como su esposo, ¡ ja, ja, ja! Dijo Manuel con elocuencia.
_ ¡Ja, ja, ja! Ella solo quiere ser novia de mi padrino a nosotros no nos aprecia de la misma manera. Dijo Servando. Mientras Eugenio y Clara intercambiaban miradas de preocupación y los jóvenes al darse cuenta silenciaron sus carcajadas y ahora con seriedad Manuel habló a sus padrinos.
_No esten preocupados que solo vamos a cazar hoy, nos volvemos antes del anochecer a dormir aqui si es que nos quieren dar posada para esta noche.
_Claro hijo esta es su casa. Pero no se olviden que los vamos a esperar esta noche y si la ven se vuelven de inmediato, no respondan a su llamado.
_Prometido madrina, nosotros nos vamos a cuidar, no se preocupen. Afirmó Manuel. Clara y Eugenio se despidieron de los muchachos con una bendición y rogaron por su bienestar. Cuando los jóvenes llevaban un trecho recorrido, Eugenio le comenta a Clara:
_ Usted sabe que esa mujer me sale siempre, pero a muchos no se les ha aparecido, ni siquiera por estos días.
_Esta bien yo voy a tratar de estar tranquila, pero no sé si sea posible.
Esa madrugada, como a las 3:00 am, se escuchan los ladridos de un perro. Eugenio, al escuchar, toma una linterna y sale de la casa. Camina rumbo al maizal con cuidado para evitar tropezar pues, aún está oscuro. A menos de 5 minutos se encuentra con el perro cazador de sus ahijados. Éste lo encuentra y comienza a dar saltos a su alrededor y después se dirige hacia el maizal. Eugenio sigue al animal y en menos de una hora de caminata encuentra a sus ahijados. Servando está sentado en el suelo recostado sobre un tronco de árbol. Manuel está de pie a su lado. A simple vista, los jóvenes parecen estar sanos y a salvo, pero conforme se acerca identifica un problema con la actitud de Servando. Este está ensimismado, con la mirada fija en el horizonte, como si estuviera dormido con los ojos abiertos. Como si estuviera atrapado en un sueño. Manuel que sí estaba sano, sonrió y acarició al perro felicitando al animal por su astucia. Después dijo a su padrino.
_ Pasó cuando regresábamos, en la piedra de laja que está antes de llegar a su propiedad. Ella se apareció, lo sé porque Servando la vió y se volvió como loco, dejó los animales que cazamos en el suelo y se fué en busca de esa mujer. Yo no la ví, solo sé que se hizo un silencio y que hasta las ranas dejaron de cantar. Lo detuve Padrino, no deje que fuera tras ella, pero fué difícil, él se quería ir con ella.
En ese momento Manuel comenzó a llorar, lloró sin consuelo y en sus lágrimas desahogo todo el terror que sintió con aquella experiencia.
_Calma Manuel, lo peor ya pasó. Me llevo a tu hermano a la casa, pero tu tienes que ir hasta que mi primo Eulogío, cuenta lo que pasa y él ya sabe qué hacer.
Así lo hicieron y cuando Manuel llego a la casa acompañado del Señor Eulogío ya Eugenio y Servando estaban allá. Este último se encontraba sentado en medio de la cama y solo llevaba un pantalón como vestimenta. En seguida, el Señor Eulogío pasó a la habitación y comenzó a darle baños para sacar el hechizo tan terrible que con el que la difunta quiso amarrar a Sebastian.
Manuel se fue a la cocina y aceptó el té de hierbas que Clara le sirvió. Después de beber unos sorbos y exclamó:
_¡Todavía no entiendo porque lo atacó a él y yo fui ignorado por completo!. Clara respondió:
_La Señora es un fantasma muy antiguo que está atado a un baúl lleno de monedas de oro. Ella murió rica y soltera, a la espera de un esposo. No sé sabe como o porque, pero ella decide quien recibe su hechizo. Dicen que cuando un hombre la acepte como esposa, ella le va a entregar el baúl con todas sus riquezas. El asunto es que nadie se atreve porque para complacer a la Señora hay que morir y los muertos no pueden disfrutar del oro.
