It's been a few years since I last took part in a tournament.
The tournament has been named after the largest shape inside an opponent's group that reduces the space inside to a single eye and thus kills.

The first round has begun.
From my first game. I was white and lost this one by something like six and a half points. The opponent was another 3 dan who was pretty strong.
The second game against a 2 dan
The group in the upper left died. Otherwise I'd have lost.
Tournament participants going through their games between rounds.
The venue is one of the campuses of Tampere Vocational College. Everything was at the venue including the sauna and space for accommodation.
My third game (I'm white). My opponent was a 1 kyu whose skills seemed much better than those of a 1 kyu. He has three wins and no losses under his belt now. More power to him!
I did some reno work at my parents house today evening. When I was done I went cross country skiing.
Suolijärvi here I come.
Sharp turns and steep hills are typical of this 4.5 km long trail.
Taivalpirtti is a cottage about 10 km to the south of the city and a popular destination. Too bad the trail is no longer maintained.
Not maintained.
Here's the map. Totally sucks that the trail is no longer maintained and that the cottage is closed to the public.
The route has changed a bit from how I remembered it.
Back to Suolijärvi. There are changing rooms and showers and a kiosk in the building.

I dropped by the venue one last time today because I heard that a bonus tournament was going to be held. Beer cans everywhere.
The bonus tournament is over. A bonus tournament is one where all games are handicap games to try and negate the effect of different levels of skill. Points are awarded for drinking beer and winning games. I had no intention to participate this time and did not.
But I have won it twice back when I was a student. The first time around 26 years ago, 13 games were played with the time allotted for the tournament and the drinking being six hours. I had 15 beers and won 11/13 games. Weaker players' skills deteriorate more from alcohol. The second time around the time limit was eight hour. I don't remember the number of games played but I had 20 beers. The guy who was second and I had finished our games a short while before the tournament ended. We then went to the sauna and had our last couple of beers there. I had watch over him to make sure he wasn't going to sprint past me at the last minute. :D
But bonus tournaments are a young man's game and I'm done with them. I haven't participated in one for over a decade.
There are two more rounds left for tomorrow.
