Welcome to another post here in the community.
This month marked my starting point in Splinterlands as those who follow my posts on PeakD might already know. Yes, it was now, in 2025, that I finally decided to dive into this mix of investment + gaming, which results in #Play2Earn or something similar.
But hold on, this isnāt a complaint.
On the contrary, I want to share here how my first full season went and what I learned at the beginning of this journey, maybe to help those who are just starting out too.
Before we go on, you might want to check my previous posts for better context:
What I immediately noticed was a disconnect between the available content and the gameās current reality.
Most tutorials, YouTube videos, and even community guides talked a lot about the Rebellion set or even older ones like Chaos Legion and Untamed. But now, with the arrival of the new Conclave Arcana set, the game has changed a lot especially for those trying to understand the Modern format meta.
And that brought up the question:
Is it better to learn in Modern or dive straight into Wild to grasp everything at once?
I started in Modern, since it's the default format and the one most recommended for beginners. The decks are more limited, card combinations are newer, and in theory, the game should be easier to understand there. But⦠in theory. In practice, I felt like Modern gave me less freedom to experiment and test classic strategies. In Wild, despite the chaos of so many cards, thereās way more quality content available to study. Almost every guide and tip out there is aimed at Wild, so if youāre really looking to learn, Wild might be a better testing ground.
During this first season, I tried a bit of everything.
Since I didnāt have a collection of my own yet, I rented a few cards from the new set (avoiding legendaries, of course, because the prices arenāt great). Most of the decks I built were based on trial and error, which forced me to pay close attention to how abilities work, the order of monsters, and the mana cap, which seems confusing at first, but gets easier with time.
A curious detail:
I only realized halfway through the season that there are hidden synergies in the battle rules. For example, certain abilities gain a lot more value depending on the specific match rule. That completely changed how I built my decks, and honestly, thatās when I started winning more matches.
Even though I progressed quite a bit this season, thereās still a lot I donāt fully understand, and I might still be a little lost (Probably just me being confused).
What are the best Summoner and monster combinations from the Conclave Arcana?
How do I build an efficient defensive strategy using cheaper cards?
Whenās the right time to make the full switch to Wild, or is it better to stick 100% to Modern?
These are questions Iām still trying to answer, and I think only time and practice will provide them. But Iāve already accepted that Splinterlands is a game you learn by playing and sometimes getting beaten up. In the end, this learning journey has been way more fun than frustrating. Even in defeat, every battle is an opportunity to observe, reflect, and test new ideas. And I think thatās the spirit of the game. If youāre starting now, the best advice I can give is to not be afraid to make mistakes and experiment. Try different Splinters, play around with off-meta monsters, and absorb as much as you can from every match especially the ones you lose.
Thatās where we learn the most.
