Welcome to another Weekly Challenge, this time with the Life Sapper.
This Challenge was done in the Silver League and with my own cards and also, against opponents at my level.
About the Life Sapper
Life sappers are in between life and death. One side of their body is ghostly while the other is alive and well. They are neither fully living nor dead. They feed off the energies around them, and simply being within view of a Life Sapper will make you feel sick and weak. They siphon energy from their victims, slowly weakening and sickening them while simultaneously healing themselves.
I usually tend to reject cards with one point of Magic attack, and the Life Sapper was not the exception. This Rare card, despite it’s low Mana requirement, which is attractive, seemed harmless to me in battle, since all of it’s stats are low, power, health and speed. Besides, it’s Life Leech ability was never very appealing to me.
However, playing both in the Bronze and Silver Leagues, I encountered many players/bots, who assembled some surprisingly effective teams with the Life Sapper, so I decided to try it up. It worked; despite it’s weak attack, the Monster prove effective when wearing down the opponent’s tank and resisting slightly more than the average Monster, thanks to it’s Life Leech effect.
Currently, I own a level two Thaddius Brood, so I’m able to use a level two Life Sapper, which has one more point of Speed, which is a very good improvement, at least for me, since Speed is quite important in my style of play.
The negative aspect of this card is, of course, it’s weak Magic attack, which considering the many cheap tanks with Void out there, makes this card completely useless, so we have to be aware of cards like Djinn Oshannus or the Unicorn Mustang and many more, that are common currency in the lower leagues.
In conclusion, I don’t have many positive nor negative feelings for this card; it’s effective if your opponent doesn’t use a tank with Void.

Battle #1
Ruleset
- Fog of War: Monsters lose the Sneak and Snipe abilities.
- Water & Life Splinters not allowed.
- Mana cap: 19.
Lineup & Analysis
Since Life, my strongest Splinter, was not allowed, I chose to play with Death, my second strongest. Besides, my opponent had a preference for Fire, so I felt comfortable with the Fog of War ruleset, which diminishes the capacities of Tarsa quite a lot.
- As always, the Cursed Windeku, when playing in the lower leagues, tend to be my first choice, because of his Thorns effect.
- Both the second and the third positions were dummies for the Serpentine Spy, which I knew it was coming.
- And both the Venari and the Life Sapper served the same purpose; take advantage from the time gained by the first three for them, to build up their health and take down enemy Monsters.
The strategy worked great. I managed to predict the Serpentine Spy and take down the rival team with my Magic cards as expected.

Ruleset
- Armored Up: All Monsters have 2 Armor in addition to their normal Armor stat.
- Little League: Only Monsters & Summoners that cost 4 Mana or les may be used in battles.
- Only Death & Dragon Splinter allowed.
- Mana cap: 20.
Lineup & Analysis
With the very few options the ruleset gave us, what else am I going to use but Death. And both the Armored Up and the Little League ruleset reassured me that Magic Monsters were the best option here, so:
- As a tank I chose the Xenith Monk, a card worth getting at level two, since it can heal itself and, in the Little League ruleset makes a big difference. Besides, it’s a Neutral card.
- Since the Venari has one more Health point than the Sapper, I always position him first. Sometimes the Sapper can be a fast victim of Snipe, especially at level one.
- The Life Sapper, of course, not only for the Challenge, but as a cheap Magic attacker.
- And the last Magic attacker, the Revealer, whose Stun effect proved very useful in this short battle, because it gave the Xenith Monk an extra round.
- In last position the Chaos Agent as layer of protection against Sneak.
Although my opponent had more attack power, he seemed to ignore the “Armored Up” rule, which slowed down his attacks, compromising his victory, so my election of Monsters was much better.

Este Reto se hizo en la Liga Plata y con cartas propias y también, contra oponentes de mi nivel.
Sobre el Life Sapper
Los Life Sapper están entre la vida y la muerte. Un lado de su cuerpo es fantasmal mientras que el otro está vivo y bien. No están completamente vivos ni muertos. Se alimentan de las energías que los rodean, y simplemente estar a la vista de un Life Sapper te hará sentir enfermo y débil. Extraen energía de sus víctimas, debilitándolas y enfermándolas lentamente mientras se curan a sí mismas.
Por lo general, tiendo a rechazar cartas con un punto de ataque mágico, y el Life Sapper no fue la excepción. Esta carta Rara, a pesar de su bajo requerimiento de Maná, que es atractivo, me pareció inofensiva en la batalla, ya que todas sus estadísticas son bajas, potencia, salud y velocidad. Además, su habilidad Life Leech nunca fue muy atractiva para mí.
Sin embargo, al jugar en las ligas Bronce y Plata, me encontré con muchos jugadores/bots que formaron algunos equipos sorprendentemente efectivos con el Life Sapper, así que decidí probarlo. Funcionó; a pesar de su ataque débil, el Monstruo demuestra ser efectivo desgastando al tanque del oponente y resiste un poco más que el Monstruo promedio, gracias a su efecto Life Leech.
Actualmente, tengo un Thaddius Brood de nivel dos, por lo que puedo usar un Life Sapper de nivel dos, que tiene un punto más de Velocidad, lo cual es una muy buena mejora, al menos para mí, ya que la Velocidad es bastante importante en mi estilo de juego.
El aspecto negativo de esta carta es, por supuesto, su ataque mágico débil, que teniendo en cuenta los muchos tanques baratos con Void que hay, hace que esta carta sea completamente inútil, por lo que debemos tener cuidado con cartas como Djinn Oshannus o Unicorn Mustang y muchos más, que son moneda corriente en las ligas inferiores.
En conclusión, no tengo muchos sentimientos positivos ni negativos por esta carta; es efectivo si tu oponente no usa un tanque con Void.

Reglas
- Niebla de guerra: los monstruos pierden las habilidades Sneak y Snipe.
- Splinters de Agua & Vida no permitidos.
- Límite de Maná: 19.
Alineación & Análisis
Como Vida, mi Splinter más fuerte, no estaba permitido, elegí jugar con Muerte, mi segundo más fuerte. Además, mi oponente tenía preferencia por el Fuego, por lo que me sentí cómodo con el conjunto de reglas de Niebla de Guerra, que disminuye bastante las capacidades de Tarsa.
- Como siempre, Cursed Windeku, cuando juego en las ligas inferiores, tiende a ser mi primera opción, debido a su efecto Thorns.
- Tanto la segunda como la tercera posición eran objetivos falsos para el Serpentine Spy, que sabía que venía.
- Y tanto el Venari como el Life Sapper sirvieron para el mismo propósito; aprovechar el tiempo ganado por los tres primeros para aumentar su salud y derrotar a los Monstruos enemigos.
La estrategia funcionó muy bien. Me las arreglé para predecir el Serpentine Spy y derrotar al equipo rival con mis cartas Mágicas como esperaba.

Reglas
- Armado: todos los monstruos tienen 2 armaduras además de su estadística de armadura normal.
- Little League: solo se pueden usar en las batallas Monstruos e Invocadores que cuesten 4 puntos de Maná o menos.
- Solo se permiten Splinters de Muerte & Dragon.
- Límite de maná: 20.
Alineación & Análisis
Con las muy pocas opciones que nos dio el conjunto de reglas, ¿qué más voy a usar sino Death? Y tanto el conjunto de reglas de Armored Up como el de Little League me aseguraron que los Monstruos de Magia eran la mejor opción aquí, así que:
- Como tanque, elegí el Xenith Monk, una carta que vale la pena obtener en el nivel dos, ya que puede curarse a sí mismo y, en el conjunto de reglas de Little League, hace una gran diferencia. Además, es una carta Neutral.
- Como el Venari tiene un punto de Salud más que el Sapper, siempre lo coloco primero. A veces, el Sapper puede ser una víctima rápida de Snipe, especialmente en el nivel uno.
- El Life Sapper, por supuesto, no solo para el Desafío, sino como un atacante mágico barato.
- Y el último atacante de Magia, el Revealer, cuyo efecto Stun resultó muy útil en esta corta batalla, porque le dio al Xenith Monk una ronda extra.
- En última posición el Chaos Agent como capa de protección contra Sneak.
Aunque mi oponente tenía más poder de ataque, parecío ignorar la regla de “Armored Up”, que ralentizaba sus ataques, comprometiendo su victoria, por lo que mi elección de Monstruos fue mucho mejor.
