The Frontier game mode of Splinterlands is finally here and I must say it is bringing much excitement into the game. From social media platforms and even Discord chats, I see many people really hyped about this format.
My initial thoughts about it is that it feels more like a true game of skills rather than card collection depth since everyone pretty much have almost the same option of cards. It's everything you have gathered from playing through the campaign mode at this point.
I also like the fact that it's sometimes about anticipating what cards your opponent would play based on the match rules and you try to counter what you think they are going to pick in their team. I'm currently learning how to best strategize and sadly, I think I only win around 50% of my battles. I got stuck in the bronze league and cannot advance any higher. I'm waiting for the moment the more experienced players move up in rank and I'm left with similarly skilled opponents.

High Market Value
I'm amazed that some of these Foundation cards fetch high value in the market. Archons are especially valuable since there are fewer chance to acquire them than the units. From what I've also discovered, some cards are not even available in the campaign mode and are only acquired through reward chests which makes them even rarer and commands a higher value. I'm guessing that what really drives the demand are collectors who would want to complete the new Frontier card collection.

This new mechanic of unlocking rewards each time you complete a certain number of wins daily is a good incentive to keep on playing. I even got myself one of the first copies of Glimmermancer which is a surprise. I've also seen others flex on getting legendary cards and even gold foil ones, which are the really the sought after ones.

Modern Usable Cards
Aside from Frontier, some of the Foundation cards are really playable even in modern. One thing I've noticed is that there is a Drakoshan in this card set and I eyed on getting my max copy of it. It is Arcane Curator which is a four mana card with no attack and high speed. It is a decent tank if you are budgeting your mana and even synergizes well with Kavor Skarn. Arcane Curator is a good tank option for battles that do not allow magic units.
Another card that I've gotten to max level was Sorrow Harvester. This card costs a lot for the stats it gets but I chose it because it is magic and it has weaken, a trait shared only by one other card in the current modern format which is Barashkukor.
This other one, Little Sister, is interesting because it has Life Leech. I might try to put it somewhere in the back and hope it would gain enough health. And for six mana, I think it's a fair deal considering it only gets up to level two.

Battle
There are times that I also get a mirror match with almost identical lineups. You can check the battle here. Aside from Marlai Singariel, Thalgrimore, the death archon, is a popular choice to use. Weakning the enemies while attack with magic damage is a solid strategy for me when picking my team.
I think the new Frontier format is a good idea from the team. My only worry is that it might get exploited by bots and the cards are farmed in a massive scale. But other than that, playing Frontier is like having a new game of Splinterlands with all new cards available. It's fun and rewarding!
