If you couldn’t tell from the title… I’m hyped. Splinterlands has just dropped Frontier Mode, and I haven’t been this excited to log in and battle since I opened my first Chaos Legion pack. There’s something about this new format that hits just right—it’s not about having the most cards or the biggest wallet. It’s about jumping into a fresh grind, earning new cards, and just enjoying the game again.
Now before I get into the nitty gritty, let me address the elephant in the room… what even is Frontier Mode?
Well, surprise surprise, there’s no Hive post from the official team (yet), but they’ve been talking about it on Twitter, Discord, and YouTube. It’s essentially a new entry-level game format for both new and veteran players. It features a smaller card pool and slightly less powerful cards compared to the main sets. But the big draw? You earn the cards by playing. Yep—play to earn, literally.
Why I Love It Already
The second it launched, I dove in. Burned through my energy like a madman. Lost track of time. And that’s when I realized—this is what I’ve been missing. No ROI spreadsheets, no overthinking rentals, no max-level meta strategies. Just honest, level-ground gameplay where everyone is on the same footing—for now at least.
And here's the cherry on top: No bots allowed. LET’S GOOOO. Now it’s up to the team to monitor and ban anyone trying to cheat that system (yes please).
Collecting Is Back, Baby
If you’ve read my past posts, you’ll know—I like to collect stuff. And Frontier Mode totally brings that joy back. Every 5 wins lets you claim a card. You can do that 3 times a day, so that’s potentially 3 new cards daily, just from playing.
The new set is called the Foundation Set, and it includes Commons to Legendaries. And yep, I already have my eye on a few I’m dying to level up. These aren’t soulbound (like it or not). You can buy and sell them, so for anyone who doesn’t want to grind, there’s still the market route. But for me, it’s about the grind. Earning these cards the hard way feels way more satisfying—even if my win ratio says otherwise 😂
And let’s be honest, the first few days have also been painful. I’ve had losing streaks of 5+ matches. Turns out I’m not as good a player as I thought—or maybe the real tryhards haven’t ranked up yet 😅 Still, I consider myself a casual collector first, and competitive player second (or third). It’s all good fun.
And then we need to level every cards, as you can see they do not go as far as normal editions.
For each rarity an example:
A Better Format Than Survival?
Maybe it’s just personal taste, but I’m vibing with this format a lot more than Survival. Survival is more about who had the deeper, better-leveled collection. Frontier, on the other hand, just feels accessible, fresh, and easy to dive into.
The interface is clean too. Fewer cards to choose from means battles load faster, and picking your team isn’t overwhelming.
Also, shoutout to the Back to Basics ruleset for reminding me why I used to hate it. You forget how annoying it is until you play manually again 😂. And i think i get it less in modern, might be because there are more ruleset in the mix there.
What’s Next?
This is just Phase 1. The team has teased a Phase 2, where you can earn tickets and even get a shot at Black Foil cards—super rare stuff. That’s got me even more motivated to keep battling daily.
And here’s the kicker—this mode could be a gateway for new players. It's finally a way to ease into Splinterlands without getting destroyed by bots or seasonal whales with massive maxed decks. Sure, there’s still a learning curve, but it’s way more manageable now.
So yeah, I’m pumped. If you haven’t tried Frontier Mode yet, now’s the time. Fire up the game, pick your Archon and summoner, and start earning. Whether you’re here for the battles, the collection, or just to enjoy the grind, Frontier is looking like a great place to be.
I’ll be there, playing my 25 battles a day and trying not to rage when I miss lethal by one damage 😅
That's all for this week, see you all on the battlefield
