Greetings, friends! Welcome to my community engage challenge. This week we were surprised by the implementation of a new ranked mode in the game. It's a sort of mini-ranking system for new players, or so I'd like to see it. I suppose it's part of Splinterlands' strategy to offer a way to introduce new players. Being a recent addition to the game, it has some interesting features and plenty of room for improvement. So, to start, let's take a look at what it's all about and what's new.

Bienvenidos a mi community engage challenge, esta semana fuimos sorprendidos con la implementación de un nuevo modo ranked en el juego y se trata por decirlo de alguna manera un sistema de mini ranked para nuevos jugadores o así quiero verlo. Supongo que se circunscribe en la estrategia de Splinterlands para ofrecer una forma de introducir a los nuevos jugadores, siendo una adición reciente dentro del juego tiene cosas interesante y muchas mejorables. Así que para empezar, veamos de que se trata y que novedades nos trae.
Well, this new ranked system is based on the cards we've already been receiving in the new campaign mode, which I dare say is a truly new game mode. But I'll expand on that later because Frontiers is NOT a new game mode and because it suffers from the same pitfalls as the Wild and Modern formats. So, from my perspective, this is part of Splinterlands' stated goals for a "soft" introduction to new players, and at this point, I don't need to tell you that these impressions I'm sharing with you are those of a veteran player of the project.
Bien, este nuevo sistema ranked esta basado en las cartas que ya veníamos recibiendo en el nuevo modo campaña al que si me atrevo a llamar un verdadero nuevo modo de juego, pero más adelante me extenderé porque Frontiers NO es un nuevo modo de juego y porque arrastra las mismas miserias de los formatos Wild y Modern. Entonces, desde mi punto de vista esto forma parte de los propósitos que se había planteado Splinterlands para una introducción "suave" a los nuevos jugadores, y en este punto no hace falta decirles que estas impresiones que les comparto son las de un jugador veterano en el proyecto.
The other important aspect of this system for new players is the type of cards it will involve. These are the cards we've already been receiving in the campaign mode, of which we're already 12 chapters into Book 1. In that mode, if you've completed it, you'll have the Founder cards in your deck. These are cards that are limited to reaching the Silver League level. The available summoners are rare, and you can only get them to level 4.
El otro aspecto importante en este sistema para jugadores novatos es el tipo de cartas que involucrará, se trata de las cartas que ya hemos estado recibiendo en el modo campaña y del cual ya llevamos 12 capítulos del libro 1. En ese modo, si lo has terminado tendrás en tu mazo las cartas fundadoras, son cartas que están limitadas a llegar al nivel de la liga de plata, los invocadores disponibles son raros y solo puedes llevarlos a nivel 4.
So, in summary, this ranked mode is for playing with limited cards. We can confirm this by checking the league we can reach, which is up to the Gold League. Like the other ranked formats, it includes a reward system as we advance through the different leagues. In my case, I'm still in Bronze III. I didn't start the day it opened because, to be honest, I wasn't very interested in this addition to the game. But, as I told you, it's because I'm a veteran player and I understand that this format is for beginners.
Entonces y en resumen, este ranked es para jugar con cartas limitadas, lo podemos confirmar revisando la liga donde podemos llegar, que es hasta la liga dorada. Al igual que los otros formatos ranked incluye un sistema de recompensas a medida que avanzamos en las distintas ligas, en mi caso aún estoy en bronce III, no comencé el día que se inauguró porque siendo honestos con ustedes no me interesó mucho este añadido al juego, pero como les dije es porque soy un jugador veterano y entiendo que este formato es para iniciados.
Gameplay/Jugabilidad
So, we basically have a sort of triple-A or novice ranked game that we can consider a prologue to the ranked system in the Wild/Modern formats. The big advantage is that it's practically free to play, since you only need to invest in the playbook, complete the campaign tutorials, obtain your first Founders cards, and then play in the Frontiers format.
Así tenemos básicamente una especie de juego ranked triple A o de novatos que podemos considerar como un prólogo del sistema ranked en los formatos Wild/Modern. La gran ventaja es que es un sistema prácticamente free to play ya que solo necesitarías la inversión del speelbook, hacer los tutoriales de la campaña, obtener tus primeras cartas founders y posteriormente jugar en el formato Frontiers.

Playing in this format doesn't offer rewards in dec or sps, but rather the possibility of earning Founder cards with every certain number of wins. It's very similar to the system that the original ranked format previously had in place back in 2021.
Jugar en este formato no nos ofrece recompensas en dec o Sps, nos ofrece la posibilidad de ganar cartas founders con cada cierto número de victorias, es muy parecido al sistema que anteriormente tenía el formato ranked original en el lejano 2021.
In total, we were awarded three reward cards for successfully completing 15 battles. When the day ends, this counter resets to zero, giving us the chance to earn three more cards if we haven't yet surpassed Bronze III. I assume these rewards improve in quantity and quality as you climb the leagues, so it's a good way to approach the project.
En total nos otorgaron 3 cartas de recompensas por completar exitosamente 15 batallas, cuando termina el día este contador vuelve a cero y nos ofrece la oportunidad de obtener 3 cartas más si aún no has superado la liga de bronce III. Supongo que estas recompensas mejoran en cantidad y calidad a medida que subes en las ligas, así que es una buena forma de aproximarse al proyecto.

As a final point, I wanted to highlight that, like Wild and Modern, Frontiers has an energy system that consumes over time but is independent, which is appreciated. This was something I also expected to happen in the Wild format, since a significant amount of Decs are invested to purchase the season pass, and the reward of only having access to it, rather than an independent energy bar, is very unfair.
Como último aspecto, quería destacar que al igual que en wild y modern, frontiers tiene un sistema de energía que se consume con el tiempo pero es independiente cosa que se agradece, era algo que también esperaría que sucediera en el formato wild ya que se invierte una buena cantidad de Decs para comprar el pase de temporada y que la recompensa sea solo tener acceso y no una barra independiente de energía es algo muy injusto.
Ownership of Cards/Propiedad de Cartas
A pleasant surprise was realizing that these founder cards can be merged, transferred, and even sold on the market. It's interesting because, for a new player, having the opportunity to obtain an NFT and sell it, generating an income that allows them to later reinvest those profits in a better deck that will allow them to make the jump to Wild/Modern formats, seems quite appropriate. My only concern would be how this addition of new cards will affect the market, as it would flood it with even more cards, which could put downward pressure on card prices.
Una grata sorpresa fue darme cuenta que estas cartas founders pueden fusionarse, transferirse e incluso venderse en el mercado. Es interesante, porque para un jugador nuevo tener la posibilidad de obtener un NFT y poder venderlo, generar así un ingreso que le permita posteriormente reinvertir esas ganancias en un mejor mazo que le permita dar el salto a los formatos wild/modern me parece algo bastante adecuado. Mi única preocupación estaría enfocado en como afectará esta adición de nuevas cartas en el mercado, pues seria inundar con todavía más cartas que podrían ejercer una presión a la baja en los precios de las cartas.

Another feature of these cards is that they have the possibility of being gold! So far, all my founder cards are regular, but that's because I obtained them in the campaign mode. Playing in Frontiers offers us this possibility of obtaining cards we already had in gold foil, including epic and legendary cards that cannot yet be obtained in the campaign format. This means that those with the possibility of getting those epic/legendary gold foil cards this week will be able to sell them for a very good price.
Otra característica de estas cartas es que tienen la posibilidad de ser doradas! Hasta ahora todas mi cartas founders son regulares pero eso es porque las obtuve en el modo campaña. Jugar en Frontiers nos ofrece esta posibilidad de conseguir las cartas que ya teníamos en lámina dorada, incluyendo cartas épicas y legendarias que aún no se pueden conseguir en el formato campaña. esto significa que aquellos con la posibilidad de conseguir esas cartas épicas/legendarias lámina dorada en esta semana que comienza podrán venderla a un muy buen precio.
Final Impressions/Impresiones Finales
At first I saw this new addition to ranked as unnecessary and a waste of resources, but then I remembered the need for new players to approach the game and make it as enjoyable as possible, that made me see it from a different perspective and understand how important it can be to attract those new players. This new ranked has the same miseries as the wild/modern formats: matchmaking with players with a rating 3 and even 4 times higher and as a consequence the RNG plays against you, the impression I'm already having of playing against Bots and players who use helpers I could feel as soon as I started playing, in fact I'm sharing with you the image of my battle record, very typical of when you have to face this plague that increasingly diminishes the game.
En un principio vi esta nueva adición al ranked como innecesaria y una pérdida de recursos, pero luego recordé la necesidad de los nuevos jugadores y que su aproximación al juego sea lo más agradable posible, eso me hizo verlo con otra perspectiva y comprender la importancia que puede tener para atraer esos nuevos jugadores. Este nuevo ranked tiene las mismas miserias de los formatos wild/modern: emparejamientos con jugadores con un rating 3 y hasta 4 veces superiores y como consecuencia el RNG juega en tu contra, la impresión que ya estoy teniendo de estar jugando contra Bots y jugadores que usan helpers la pude palpar apenas comencé a jugar, de hecho te comparto la imagen de mi récord de batallas muy típico de cuando te toca enfrentarte a esta plaga que cada vez mengua el juego.
So, in summary, my first impression is that it's not fun at all; it has the same frustration and feeling of being ripped off by bots and helpers. Proof of this is that I've already consumed almost 85% of my energy and I'm still in Bronze III. It's worth asking yourself: Can you imagine the desire and enthusiasm new players will have to continue investing their time in this project? Owning cards is a good incentive to get started, but overall my impression is still mixed. That's why I'll leave this post as a first part while I continue exploring and advancing in this new format, with a more solid conclusion to come in a future post. Entonces, en resumen mi primera impresión es que no es para nada divertido, tiene la misma frustración y sensación de estar siendo timado con bots y helpers. Prueba de ello es que ya he consumido casi el 85% de la energía y sigo estando en bronce III. Vale la pena entonces preguntarse: ¿Se imaginan las ganas y entusiasmo de continuar invirtiendo su tiempo en este proyecto que tendrán los nuevos jugadores? Las cartas que son de tu propiedad son un buen aliciente para comenzar, pero en general mi impresión sigue siendo mixta. Por eso dejaré este post como una primera parte mientras sigo explorando y avanzando en este nuevo formato para dar una conclusión más solida en un futuro post amigos.
