What's up Splinterfam and Hivers! Welcome to my contribution to this week's Community Engage Challenge. This event invites us to share our experience approaching games. It's particularly one of the topics I enjoy sharing most with the community. The way I learned about this project opened the door to a whole new world I was completely unaware of, and it has become not only an alternative source of income, but also a novel form of social interaction: Web 3.

Que tal Splinterfam y Hivers! Bienvenidos a mi aporte al community engage challenge de esta semana, en esta ocasión este evento nos invita a compartir como ha sido nuestra experiencia aproximándonos al juegos. Es en particular uno de los tópicos que más disfruto compartir en la comunidad. La forma en la que conocer este proyecto me abrió las puertas a todo un nuevo mundo que ignoraba por completo y que se ha convertido no solo en una forma de ingreso alternativo, sino también en una novedosa forma de interacción social: la web 3.

So, with the way Splinterlands has so profoundly changed the way I see and understand the future of Web 3, whenever we are invited to share our experiences with the game, I admit it's a true pleasure and honor to share my journey with this wonderful project. In this context, the first thing I must highlight is the question: What was the biggest hurdle you faced when learning Splinterlands? Here I must start by taking a look back, to when I joined this project, when the Untamed edition was just beginning to be released and there were still Beta reward cards being obtained from chests. And yes, I know, a long time has passed since then (more than 4 years already) and the game has changed a lot since then, however one of the biggest obstacles I had with the game is one that even today new players ask me when they are taking their first steps: The importance and weight that summoners have in the game. Many times this is expressed in players who ask me the following: I got a monster to level 4 or 5 to take advantage of a certain ability, but then when I enter battle it appears at level 1. Why does this happen? This isn't a stupid or nerdy question, I've seen a lot of low-budget players invest what little they have into bad decisions like this one of buying/upgrading monsters completely ignoring that they need to have summoners (or archons now) above level 1 in order to summon and sustain higher level monsters.

Entonces, con la forma tan manifiesta en la que Splinterlands ha cambiado mi forma de ver y entender el futuro de la web 3, siempre que nos invitan a compartir nuestras experiencias en el juego admito que es un verdadero gusto y honor compartir mi viaje en este maravilloso proyecto. En este contexto lo primero que debo destacar es la pregunta: ¿Cuál fue el mayor obstáculo al que te enfrentaste al aprender Splinterlands? Aquí debo comenzar echando una mirada atrás, cuando yo ingrese en este proyecto, cuando comenzaba la emisión de la edición Untamed y aún habían cartas Beta rewards obteniéndose en los cofres. Y si, ya lo sé, ha pasado mucho tiempo desde eso (más de 4 años ya) y el juego ha cambiado mucho desde entonces, sin embargo uno de los grandes obstáculos que tuve con el juego es uno de los que aún hoy los nuevos jugadores me preguntan cuando están dando sus primeros pasos: La importancia y el peso que tienen los invocadores en el juego. Muchas veces esto se expresa en jugadores que me preguntan lo siguiente: Llevé un monstruo a nivel 4 o 5 para aprovechar cierta habilidad, pero entonces cuando entro en batalla aparece en lvl 1. ¿Por qué pasa esto? Esta no es una pregunta estúpida o novatada, he visto a muchos jugadores de bajo presupuesto invertir lo poco que tienen en malas decisiones como esta de comprar/upgradear monstruos ignorando completamente que necesitan tener invocadores (o arcontes ahora) de nivel superior a 1 para poder invocar y sostener a monstruos de nivel superior.

In short, in this first section, it's still very common to see, among both beginners and novices, a lack of understanding of the true value that summoners have in the game. This has been corrected thanks to the introduction of the campaign mode, which explains these details very well. I highly recommend paying attention to it if you're just starting out in the game, as it's quite educational and an important step in understanding the game's mechanics.

En resumen, en este primer apartado sigue siendo muy frecuente ver en los iniciados y no tan iniciados la poca comprensión del verdadero valor que tiene los invocadores en el juego. Esto de ha ido corrigiendo gracias a la introducción del modo campaña que explica muy bien estos detalles y que de verdad recomiendo ponerle atención si estas comenzando en el juego pues son bastante didácticos y un paso importante para entender las mecánicas del juego.

The above is just the first step on our way to becoming experienced summoners/archons, then we have to understand that with each level of our archons we can take advantage of the different abilities that they can confer to our monsters and thus develop different mechanics in battles, which brings us to the second question: What characteristic or mechanic took you the longest to fully understand? If there is a mechanic that took me time to learn when I started in Splinterlands it was the strategic potential of afflictions, this happened to me because the strategy that I preferred to choose was to quickly finish off the opponent with brute force and it was common for me to always use 2 summoners: Malric Inferno & Alric Stormbringer.

Lo anteriormente expuesto es apenas el primer paso en nuestro camino a convertirnos en invocadores/arcontes experimentados, luego tenemos que comprender que con cada nivel de nuestros arcontes podremos aprovechar las distintas habilidades que éstos pueden conferir a nuestros monstruos y así desarrollar distintas mecánicas en la batallas, lo que nos lleva a la segunda pregunta: ¿Qué característica o mecánica te llevó más tiempo comprender por completo? Si hay una mecánica que me tomo tiempo en aprender cuando comencé en Splinterlands fue el potencial estratégico de las aflicciones, esto me pasó porque la estrategia que por predilección escogía era la de acabar rápidamente al oponente con fuerza bruta y era común que usara siempre 2 invocadores: Malric Inferno & Alric Stormbringer.

So, cards like Cryptomancer and in general the death class monsters were hard for me to understand because of their low damage output. At first it was frustrating when I only had to use this class, but precisely with time and progressing with my battle strategies, I began to appreciate cards like Cryptomancer or Zintar Mortalis, which is one of the beta cards that I did buy when I was starting out in Splinterlands.

Entonces, cartas como Cryptomancer y en general los monstruos de la clase muerte me costaba entenderlas por su escasa capacidad de hacer daño, al principio era frustrante cuando solo tenía que usar esta clase, pero precisamente con el tiempo y el progresar con mi estrategias de batalla que comencé apreciar cartas como Cryptomancer o Zintar Mortalis que es una de las cartas beta que si compre cuando estaba comenzando en Splinterlands.

What advice would you give to your past self—or a brand-new player—starting today?/¿Qué consejo le darías a tu yo del pasado (o a un jugador nuevo) a partir de hoy?

The game has changed a lot since the end of 2020 when I joined this project, not only in the mechanics, cards, and abilities within the game, but also at the level of the entire crypto ecosystem: we had the fall of Terra/Luna and FTX, which were the triggers for this long bear market. If I learned anything during those years of the NFT bubble in 2020-2021, it was not to get attached to cards and to learn when an asset should be sold. That would be the advice I would give to new (low-budget) players and to my past self. An example was the Byzantine Kitty summoner I got in a pack I got from a reward chest. This card came to be worth almost $900, an amount that would have allowed me to complete 1 or 2 classes from the Untamed edition or simply invest it in the Lands expansion. This is really difficult to see when you start in the Gamefi ecosystem and even more so in those years of the NFT bubble, but if you are a low-budget player who bought a pack and get a legendary monster or archon that you see has a speculative price, don't think twice, sell it and reinvest.

El juego ha cambiado mucho desde finales del 2020 cuando ingrese en este proyecto, no solo en las mecánicas, cartas y habilidades dentro del juego, sino a nivel de todo el ecosistema crypto: tuvimos la caída de Terra/Luna y FTX que fueron los disparadores de este largo mercado bajista. Si algo aprendí en aquellos años de la burbuja NFT del 2020-2021 fue que no hay que encariñarse con las cartas y aprender cuando un activo debe venderse, ese sería el consejo que le diría a los nuevos jugadores (de bajo presupuesto) y a mi yo del pasado. Un ejemplo fue el invocador Byzantine Kitty que obtuve en un pack que conseguí en un cofre de recompensa. Esta carta llego a valer casi 900$ una cantidad que me habría permitido completar 1 o 2 clases de la edición Untamed o simplemente invertirlo en la expansión de Lands. Esto es realmente difícil de ver cuando comienzas en el ecosistema Gamefi y más todavía en aquellos años de la burbuja NFT, pero si eres un jugador de bajo presupuesto que compró un pack y consigues un monstruo o arconte legendario que veas tiene un precio especulativo, no lo pienses 2 veces, véndelo y reinvierte.

Finally, I want to close with one of the aspects I discovered with Splinterlands that marked a turning point: Splinterlands runs on the Hive network. Hive is, in my view, the ultimate expression of the future of Web 3 social networks, and ironically, I spent two full years playing Tryhard and ignored this fact! But thanks to hivers like @danielvehe, I initially learned how to take my first steps in Splinterlands through his YouTube channel, and later learned about the full potential of Hive as a Web 3 social blockchain. Discovering this, the existence of a Splinterlands channel where a large number of players come together, sharing strategies, future perspectives on the game, and advice on new projects like Conclave Arcana, has been a turning point for me, not only as a player and member of the Splinterlands community, but also as a hiver.

Finalmente quiero cerrar con uno de los aspectos que descubrí con splinterlands y significó un antes y un después: Splinterlands corre en la red de Hive. Hive es desde mi punto de vista la máxima expresión del futuro de las redes sociales web3 e irónicamente estuve 2 años completos jugando tryhard que ignoré este hecho! Pero gracias a hivers como @danielvehe que en un primer momento aprendí como dar mis primeros pasos en Splinterlands através de su canal en youtube y posteriormente de todo el potencial que tiene hive como una blockchain social web 3. Descubrir esto, la existencia de un canal de Splinterlands donde confluyen gran parte de los jugadores, donde comparten estrategias, perspectivas a futuro del juego y consejos de los nuevos proyectos como Conclave Arcana ha sido un antes y un después para mi no sólo como jugador y miembro de la comunidad de Splinterlands, sino como hiver.
