At some point during the first few days I was playing Splinterlands I read a post from another player detailing some points they would do differently if they were just starting. I don't recall what all the tips were, but I probably ignored most of them as I excitedly dove in head first. In the same spirit, here are some resources I wish I had come across sooner.
I've been playing Splinterlands for just over three months and I like to think that I've graduated from noob to beginner. I still make plenty of mistakes, and have a lot of learning to do, but in my short time I've stumbled across some resources that can hopefully help someone just getting started.
This is not a buy this lineup to succeed guide. I'm still figuring out the best combos and synergies as a beginner myself. What it does contain is some complimentary tools and suggestions, outside of actual gameplay, that may be just as important.
Learn and Share

I came across Splinterlands after reading an article describing the play to earn aspect of the game. I jumped in having zero experience with play to earn games, and crypto as a whole.

What the article didn't prepare me for was the complete ecosystem of complimentary apps, coins and knowledge bases. Splinterlands, to its great credit in many ways, eases the transition into the blockchain world for someone like myself that had zero prior knowledge of what I was getting into. However, it doesn't set a clear path to gain more knowledge as you start to get a handle on the basics.

I could go on and on, but these are the destinations I travel to most frequently. You will not grasp everything at once, and that is fine. The community is here to support you on your journey.
Share Better
- Once you have the hang of sharing, get batter at it and share cleaner looking content. I am far from an expert, but here is post I made about some things I have learned. Make your images the proper size, learn how to properly set headings on your post and take your time. I try and learn one new thing to help my ideas stand out each time I post. The nicer your content is presented, the more readers will flock to your posts, and the higher your payouts will start to become.
Rent a Piece of the Pie
- Rent cards, don't buy, when you are just learning the ropes - If you are like me you want to collect and own your collection as fast as you can. However, as you are learning the game, the abilities and how they best synergize, I would recommend renting a diverse set of cards to get a better feel for how the game is best played.
Rent Better
- I spent the first month I played the game afraid of the third party rental markets. I struggled to rent cards as I was constantly told the card I selected has already been rented. Don't be like me. Use one of the third party sites, such as Peakmonsters and you won't waste your time banging your head into the wall. Peakmonsters offers a wealth of information and methods to filter and view available cards.

Study

You will lose a lot when you first get started. Okay you will lose a lot even when you have been playing for a while 😀 However, you can increase your win rate and your understanding of why you lose if you take time to study your battles. Splintertools is an amazing site that allows you to view your battles after they are complete. It has the option to swap out card choices and positions and will teach you more about your game than any other resource I can suggest.
