I just started playing Splinterlands recently, and I must say I had a pretty good start, especially considering I was a total newbie just moments ago! š
created using Sora
It all began when I was checking out my PeakMonsters account, and to my surprise, I found a Rebellion pack that had been sitting there for ages. I suddenly remembered I won it from a Splinterlands Art Contest a few months ago. It was a pleasant surprise, especially since I had originally planned to check the secondary market to buy some cards. Turns out, I already had a pack waiting for me. LOL!
I immediately sent it over to my Splinterlands account and opened it after buying the necessary potions. These were the first five cards I pulled.
To get started with battles, I needed to buy a summoner. I ended up purchasing Kaylia Silverfeal (Level 1) for $1.74 from the Splinterlands market. I considered buying from the PeakMonsters secondary market but had no luck there. It wasnāt that expensive anyway, so I was fine buying directly from the market.
Since I had already decided to give battles a try, I checked out the campaign mode first to get a feel for how things work. After a few test battles in campaign mode, I decided to take my first step into Modern Ranked battles.
1st Battle
- Summoner: Kaylia Silverleaf
- Dread Tafarian
- Silverblade Fighter
- Mad Gearhead
- Wilhelmdale Deputy
š Watch the battle
This was a quick match where I got completely wiped out. I didnāt even manage to defeat a single one of my opponentās cards! It clearly showed how little I understood the game mechanics at the time.
2nd Battle
- Summoner: Aurelia
- Dread Tafarian
- Mad Gearhead
- Wilhelmdale Deputy
š Watch the battle
I think I made a mistake choosing Aurelia as my summoner since I had limited card options to pair with her. Unsurprisingly, I lost again due to another poor decision. But hey, every loss is a learning opportunity, right? At this point, I was feeling a bit frustrated and honestly didnāt know what I was doingāLOL.
3rd Battle
I decided to buy a Conclave Arcana (CA) pack, hoping it might improve my chances in upcoming battles.

Hereās my lineup for this match:
- Summoner: Kaylia Silverleaf
- Silverblade Fighter
- Fenmoor Wood Troll
- Halfshell Seer
- Silverleaf Warlock
- Quillstorm Mage
- Conclave Artificer

As soon as I hit the battle icon and the first attacks landed, I saw a glimmer of hope. My build started crushing my opponent! I honestly felt lucky picking those cards because I still didnāt fully understand the card abilities or synergiesāI was mainly experimenting and trying to fit everything within the mana limit.
Thankfully, I got my first win!
4th Battle
At this point, I was starting to feel a bit more confident, so I hit the Battle Again button to see if my previous win was due to actual strategyāor just pure luck. LOL.
Lineup for this battle:
- Summoner: Chuul Jujinchi
- Silverblade Fighter
- Vivid Venomancer
- Auroral Elemental
- Mystic Mudbinder
- Halfshell Seer
š Watch the battle
While building my team for this battle, I had a hard time balancing the mana cost. Choosing Chuul as my summoner meant that my high-mana cards were eating up too much of the total limit. So, I decided to remove the expensive ones and instead focused on playing around with the skills and synergies of the lower-cost cards.
It looked like my opponent took the opposite approach, bringing in more high-mana cards. As a result, my lineup ended up with 6 cards on the field, while my opponent only had 5.
And guess what? I won again!
In this battle, I realized that having more cards on the arena can give you an edge over high-cost cardsāat least in certain matchups. I'm not totally sure yet, so Iām planning to test that theory in the next few rounds.
So, What's Next for Me?
- Study keywords and abilities
- Balance frontline and support roles
- Plan more carefully around the mana limit
- Start checking rulesets (later)
- Watch replays with purpose and intention
Plan for My Next Battle Rounds
- Focus on Earth and Life splinters for now, I already own some synergistic cards in both.
- Play 3ā5 ranked matches daily, and always review my battle history after each one.
- Gradually expand my card pool, prioritizing 2ā4 mana support and ability cards.
- Consider renting key cards from PeakMonsters, especially ones with abilities like Tank Heal, Cleanse, or Sneak.
Getting started with Splinterlands has been a fun mix of trial, error, and small victories. Every battle teaches me something new, and Iām excited to keep learning and improving one match at a time. If you're just starting out too, don't stressājust enjoy the process and grow with each game!
