2024 Battle Of The Day 184/366

BATTLE LINK -- July 2, 2024 -- Day 184 of 366 vs. @jerwin2022

Back with another exciting #BOTD from the second day of ranked play in Season 138. I was riding a winning streak in Modern Diamond 1 and with a win here, I would reach 3700 rating for Champion 3. In my way is this 25-mana battle with 3 rulesets: Aimless, Fog of War, and Holy Protection.

I've just recently spoken about the benefits of Waka Spiritblade with scattershot, so for this battle I wanted to feature a new role player, Ahna-Chei Botanist. This 2-mana common death monster from Rebellion is one of five new cards in a useful cycle from the new set. Of course, we all know how helpful high speed and return fire can be against a team with several range monsters, but it's the other two abilities that proved to be more valuable as the scattershot battle played out.

First, there is blind, a static ability given to all of my opponent's monsters making them 25% more likely to miss a melee or range attack. This is incredibly useful with the given rulesets and monster selection from my opponent. It can be hard to tell exactly which misses were caused by blind, but there sure were a bunch of misses!

Second, there is dispel, an often overlooked ability that cancels out any positive buffs on the opponent's monsters. As one can see from the battle playback, the Botanist connected on a few attacks and removed the armor provided by the opponent's protect monster, including a first attack on the shielded tank, Chaos Rear Guard.

Upon closer examination, Venka does most of the heavy lifting for my team once those holy protections were removed. But the contributions from Ahna-Chei Botanist by providing the blind ability and a speedy attack at the beginning of the round to dispel monster buffs should not be overlooked here. Hopefully, you learned a thing or two about this underutilized common from Rebellion.

For my ranked climb, an early smssion unlocked as I made my way to Champion on Day 2 of the new season! I'm excited to see the SPS rewards now, considering a healthy 46 SPS was earned for the victory in this most recent battle!
