I have really grown to appreciate the complexity of the gameplay in Splinterlands; I am getting to a point where there are new rules for each match. These special rules can be anything from 'Only even Mana cards' or 'earthquake' (non flying monsters take 2 damage per round). This forces you to consider different strategies for each battle, which can force you out of a 'comfort zone' of using the same few cards over and over. Even with these changing rules I believe there are a few cards I still use the most either out of strategy or just because I am emotionally attached for some reason. I have been using more of the dragon cards recently, finding myself absolutley in love with the Thorns ability on Djinn Chiwhala!
Pevious to my current infatuation, I would try to use Venari Wavesmith (water) in nearly every battle. The +2 armor he provides will generally protect your low health magic attack cards for a round or two allowing them to deal +2 magic each. I've posted before about how I believe water Magic is bit overpowered and he is part of the reason why. Using in combination with a tank like the Frozen Soilder is great against a Melee/Ranged Based attack. However, when facing an attack from another +1 magic summoner, Peaceful Giant or Spineback Turtle will fair better as your tank and generally detemine the winner.
With all the complexity I definatley have some favorite cards that I use and some cards I've never felt fit the battle I wanted to fight yet; however with the randomness and challenge that the changing rulesets provide I do expect they may yet have some future utility.
