Hello Splinterlandians!
In this post I participate once more in the Weekly Challenge: Share your Battle. I really like these challenges, because sometimes you don't really use the card often, but for the challenge you have to. And by doing this challenge you can learn some nice things about the card.
This week the challenge is featured by the Time Mage.
Have fun while reading it!
The card:
Time Mage is a four mana monster with magic attack from the life splinter. On the first level she (for me Time Mage looks female) has only the ability slow and when you level her up to level 5 she gets the ability rust. Time mage is a very fast monster, because of the speed of 4/5. In combination with the ability slow, she could dodge some attacks. She is not a real damage dealer, but with 1-3 magic damage it is not that bad. Her life with 3/4 isn't bad, too.
All in all Time Mage looks like a real good and usable card. Unfortunately the summoner from Chaos Legion, General Sloan, doesn't give her any advantage, but I hope the new legendary summoner of Chaos Legion will give her some advantage, but we will see in the future...
Although General Sloan doesn't support her that much, I often use her with him, because the archers of the life splinter aren't that fast, so Times Mages ability slow sometimes is a real game changer. Another usecase is, playing Time Mage with other Magic attackers, for example with Dax Paragon.
Let's see how we could use this card in a battle!
The battle:
Ruleset
We have a 28 mana battle with the ruleset Fog of War (Monster lose the sneak and snipe abilities). Useable are the fire, water, earth, life and death splinter.
We could nearly play every splinter, but I decided to play the life splinter. Let's see how we used the Time Mage.
Lineups
I chose to play the life splinter with General Sloan and the archers in this ruleset, because they can't be hit by monsters with sneak or snipe, so maybe the live longer and deal some more damage.
I played the Shieldbearer with thaunt in the first position as a big tank to defend my archers.
In the second position is the Armorsmith. His job in this battle should be repairing the Shieldbearers armour.
Our monster in the spotlight, the Time Mage, is in the third position. Like I said in the beginning, I played him because my other monsters in this lineup aren't that fast, so her slow ability could help me a lot. Her secondary task is, if the Shieldbearer and Armoursmith are dying, tanking some hits before an archer is in the first position and can't attack.
My fourth monster is the Venari Crystalsmith, who benefits from General Sloan. His heal ability should help Shieldbearer to live a bit longer.
In position number five is our big damag dealer in this lineup, the Pelacor Arbalest. I use him so often with General Sloan, especially because of his double strike.
At last postion I made a little mistake placing the Sould Fiend. My idea was, that he should protect the Pelacor Arbalest against sneak attacks, but in this ruleset there is no sneak.
My opponent plays nearly a mirror lineup. That promises to be a close battle. Maybe he made a mistake by not taking a monster with the repair ability with him.
Round 1
After the first round no monster died. Both Shieldbearers are alive, mine has two armour and life, my opponents has five live.
Next round monsters will die, and I think this game is a bit like a lottery. The guy, who has more luck, will win this battle.
Round 2
In the second round both Shieldbearers died. I had some luck, because even my and the opponents archers have the same speed, mine attacked faster. So the enemy Xenith Archer died and the enemy Venari Crystalsmith can't attack anymore, because he is in the first position.
Round 3
After the third round only five monster are on the battlefield and the battly slowly comes to an end. My Pelacor Arbalest missed one shot on the opponents Time Mage, but so did his Pelacor Arbalest on mine Time Mage, too.
Now it looks like I won't give the battle out of my hand. Only if my Pelacor Arbalest and Venari Crystalsmith will miss their shots on the Time Mage next round, my opponent has a chance to win.
Round 4
In the last round my Pelacor Arbalest made two reliable shots and killed the Time Mage and the Pelacor Arbalest, so the battle is won.
Conclusion
This battle was like a lottery, because my opponent chose nearly a mirror lineup.
I think the battle might as well have been lost, but the luck was on my side.
My Time Mage fulfilled his first task, to slow down the enemy team, and his second to tank maybe one or two attacks before my archers got into the first position.
