We're on the last day of the season for Ranked Play at Splinterlands, and it is time for me to see what's my progress toward completing the Rebellion SB set.
I continued with my plan to buy all of the Ultimate Chests from first batch, and as much of the Legendary Draws as I could, with any remaining Glint slated to Epic Draws. I haven't purchased a single Common or Rare Draw yet, and every common and rare card from the Rebellion SB set comes from chests.
Starting from the season that is about to end, we have a change in the game that will affect the speed at which the Rebellion SB set will be completed. That is the reward chests that are awarded at the first unlock of an upper tier league, every season.
Some people say this will bring back the focus on multi-accounts, to earn chests on every one of them. Maybe, to a degree. But I only see a risk for non-SB rewards that are sold in the Guild Shop (like the limited number of titles or, potentially, the jackpot prizes from the chests). Otherwise, I doubt many will be interested to pay a consistent unlock price for SB cards hoping to sell them at a little premium.
Normally, I start in Diamond 2, and finish in Champion 2. Occasionally, I finish in Champion 1 or, more often, Champion 3. For me, it means I receive the reward chests for unlocking Diamond 1 (I missed this one this season because I went up before the reward chests were introduced), Champion 3, and Champion 2 tiers, most often.
That means 39 minor chests, 31 major chests, and 12 ultimate chests, in total, per season.
39 minor chests would cost 7,800 Glint, 31 major chests would cost 31,000 Glint, and 12 ultimate chests would cost 54,000 Glint. So a total of 92800 Glint worth of chests in rewards for moving up the leagues, every season.
Of course, not all chests are the same, and if I were to buy them myself, I wouldn't pay for the two lesser versions at the amount of Glint I make every season. But if they come "for free", they are welcome.
Let's get back to tracking the current situation of my Rebellion SB set completion progress.
Here's the situation so far:
Season since New SB Set | Commons % | Rares % | Epics % | Legendaries % |
---|---|---|---|---|
Season 1 | 1 / 0 | 2 / 0 | 8 / 0 | 9 / 0 |
Season 2 | 2 / 1 | 2 / 0 | 9 / 0 | 17 / 0 |
Season 3 | 3 / 1 | 2 / 0 | 10 / 0 | 23 / 0 |
Season 4 (current) | 5 / 2 | 3 / 1 | 12 / 0 | 27 / 0 |
I don't like that the progress on maxing out my legendary SB cards is slowing down season after season. By my calculations, I've also made a lower amount of Glint this season. I'm thinking to double down on my strategy next season, with exclusive focus on legendary draws, instead of investing in ultimate chests too. The reasoning is that starting from this season we already started to receive chests for going up the leagues, which ensures at least partially the chance part I was interested in.
My Rebellion legendary SB reward cards. One at level 3, and the rest about half at level 1 and half at level 2.
Perhaps a more relevant metric is the amount of Glint already spent compared to the total amount needed to max out the SB set (only regulars).
Here' s my situation (I don't know how I got the amounts at the end of last season, but they are obviously wrong):
8,790,000 Glint
Spent so far on cards (ignore GF and doubles):
1,618,650 Glint
Progress percentage:
18.41%
Estimated time to max out the RF cards (or GF, where possible):
20 more seasons (10 months)
Progress looks much worse than it did last week with the wrong numbers... For a season, I thought I was doing well. Hopefully, the new tier advancement reward chests will help a bit.
