I have been playing Splinterlands since late December 2019. I have to say this is one of the greatest card games that I have ever experienced. The guild that I joined (Spirit Animal) has gone from one of the mid-ranged open guilds to dominating the number 1 spot for an open guild.
I have spent a good amount of money within the game purchasing the booster packs and highly value the return rate of the Air-Drops and admit that it has been worth every coin spent. Splinterlands is a game like no other.
Splinterlands is a great game to play for many reasons. I, for one, truly enjoy the daily rewards and climbing through the ranks. I still have yet to reach the Champion One Ranks but have come close for many seasons. One day, I will reach the top tiers along with the greats that have happened to reach those ranks each season.
The advice that I can give new players who have started after I did and is still struggling climbing through the rank it is this...
#1- Pay attention to the ruleset and learn everything about what each rule means.
There have been countless times I have used the wrong card that would cost me the win. For example, the rule for the match calls for the equalizer ruleset. This means that the splinters will have health equal to the splinter with the most health in that match. Me (not paying attention to the rules) throws out a splinter (Magnor Lvl 3) with a high life count and cards behind it with semi-weak melee/ranged/magic attacks, then their summoner ability would lower the attacks further. They would have a splinter ability for magic attacks/range/melee attacks countering it to lessen the damages. The outcome is this... doing minimal damage to the enemy splinters (if any at all) and taking massive damage counters to my cards, killing me in just a few rounds. Talk about pain!
#2- Level up your cards as often as possible, or, buy the cards with DEC you earn via ranked battles.
Start by leveling up your summoners. The reason being is because higher-ranked splinters cannot be used to their full potential, unless, your summoners are able to play the particular level of splinters you use. The only way to make that possible is by leveling up your summoner. Try building one deck at a time.

#3- Try out different strategies for every game.
(Each match is different and it is good to try using your resources to get that W!)
The more strategies you have, the better your odds will be to gain wins and climb to those higher tier ranks (which means the greater the end of season rewards will be). Another key is the placement of cards within your strategy. A few ranked matches should teach you what strategies are great between rulesets.
#4- Try to use as much mana as possible with your strategies.
There are times where you think you have a great strategy that doesn't require much mana (don't get me wrong, sometimes that strategy does work) but then the enemy will have a super strong deck that will counter that strategy and painfully eliminate every splinter you chose within a few rounds.
#5- If you have extra spots use a Furious Chicken placed with strategy.
There have been times where the Furious Chicken was placed just right... saved me from losing the match.
Great strategy on those low mana matches.
#6- Purchase cards you are after, rather than hoping for them via boosters.
From my findings, that is the best possible route because you may find them being sold under normal value due to players not knowing what they are selling. Also, gold foil cards are better to use in ranks rather than silver because you will receive more DEC whenever you win.
#7- Join a guild.
By joining a guild you will a DEC bonus as well as a shop discount. The bonus increases as the ranking of the Quest Lodge gains levels in rank. The Guild Hall will also make it so more people are able to join the guild which increases the donations that go into leveling up the Hall and Lodge.
The guild that I am in requested that to be in it you must pay 500 DEC per season. I would assume that other guilds would have similar rules to be in the guild. Plus, 500 DEC is not that much once you start climbing those ranks and completing your daily challenges.
#8- Complete your daily challenges as often as possible.
By doing so, it will come with a daily reward for chests that you open with contents that will help level up reward cards, to increase your splinter's strength, as well as, give you occasional boosters, DEC payouts, and sometimes even rarer cards. The most rewarding way to get those legendary splinters is to take chances, these daily challenges do just that.
I hope the few tips that I pointed out in this post above helps someone who enjoys Splinterlands.
Anyway, have a good day and I will see you on the battlefield, Splinter Warriors.
Below is an example of what season rewards looked like for me....
