I have been contemplating back and forth on whether I should make an entry for the Splinterlands art contest. One thing that is pulling me back is the lack of knowledge of Splintertalnds. Good thing that I have a friend that is playing Splinterlands. Through him, I get more interested in the game, especially in the characters. I saw @sensiblecast's entry for the last week's event, and so my curiosity grew more. By the way, he won sixth place! Woohoo!
So, I scrutinized more by checking out Splinterland's official website. I checked on the different cards and was amazed at the different character designs. Hmm, I might really hop into this game one day, but for now, due to my schedule and other life activities, my time is under constraints. I will definitely look for a time to learn more about Splinterlands.
This is my first time to have an entry, and I am so thrilled to draw Lira the Dark in a chibi style! By the way, I have an NFT collection on NFT Showroom called Chibis on Hive. Feel free to check them out!
Before sketching Lira, I first watched her background story on YouTube. It is a way for me to conceptualize and imagine Lira. Oh, wow, she is freaking powerful in a sinister way. I like her dark aura. I also grabbed a picture of her to guide me as I draw.
Sketch
On the drawing tool, I picked on the pencil to sketch Lira. I first started with the flow of her hair.
It is easier for me to proportionate everything when I base it first on the hair.
I sketched most of the big details and skipped the small details such as the earrings, flowers, and necklace.
Line art
Flat color
For me, it is more cartoonish which is close to chibi style. By the way, did you know that chibi is a Japanese slang word that means short or little? In art style, chibi suggests cuteness.
Oh, noticed that little blood on the lips? I just realized it when I zoomed in Lira.
The details (flower, earrings, and necklace)
Thanks for the copy-paste, it is easier to make the other earring. I first completed the details of one earring. I made sure that it was somehow similar to Lira. The picture is too pixelated when zoomed in. So, I just rely on what I can see.
Final Art! (Shadows, glows, background, and more details~)
After finishing all the details of the chibi, I then proceeded for the background, shadowing, and glows. I chose a neutral dark purple for the background, and used the gradient tool. I also add a layer of shadow on Lira's face. For the red bolt and fragments, I adjusted the opacity and glow effect. I put them on the edge as well as the lower part of the chibi character. Checked everything, zoon in, zoom out, tadaaaa!
